Beer Mug Info?

This is great information on the beer mugs. Thanks! Can you bring the plastic hurricane glasses back on future cruises? We have one of them, too.

This is great information. We went on a cruise last year, can we bring the mug for this year?

Thanks for the information! We didn't know at the time we would cruise two years in a row. We went on our honeymoon last year and may parents decided to do a last family vacation (my youngest sibling graduated high school this year) around Christmas time. Not sure when we will cruise again (hopefully not too long).

Did anyone ever have issues transporting the mug? Can it be on our carry-on to the port?

Talking about alcohol, my TA said you can bring 2 bottles of wine and a 6 pack of beer per adult. What about other alcohol, vodka, gin, etc?

The mug is thick, heavy glass, so easily transported. I brought one home from one of our early cruises and DD brought me a second one from one of hers. After that, I bought one more to get the token and have now used it for 8 or 9 cruises, exchanging after each draft beer. That way, I never have to carry the empty mug around the ship.

So I have searched and searched, both here on The Dis and the rest of the internet. Does anyone have the price for the two sizes of beers available? Trying to see where the break even point would be if I purchased the mug. I've found the drink menu's here, http://disneycruiselineblog.com/menus/drink-menus/, but I'm pretty sure those are not draft prices. One other question for any recent passengers since the Fantasy menu is from a year ago, are these prices still accurate?

I don't think you can compare prices. What happens is they charge you for a 16oz beer, but you get 21-22 oz in the mug. I believe a bartender told me it i roughly a dollar extra in beer per mug.

At $1 estimate, you theoretically break even at 15 beers. If you are on a 7 day cruise, you can almost break even on only 2 beers per day. Plus, you still get the mug. If you do multiple cruises (I've used it on more than 5 so far) you easily come out ahead. It's not an super deal, but it is nice when you pay $6-$8 for a beer to get a little extra.

I'm not sure I understand why you can't compare. If you didn't have the mug you would pay for the 22oz pour, but with the mug you are paying for the 16oz pour but getting 22oz. What is the difference in price? Are they really only a $1 different?

I guess the statement of breaking even isn't the right one to justify the purchase since you are getting the glass to take home and being on a 7 night cruise as I will be makes it easier. I was just trying to find the exact prices to see for my self what they would be. I have found that this is one of the harder things to research is the prices of drinks lol.

Ok, doing a little math at lunch. If you had 6 - 16 oz. beers at $9/beer total cost would be $54.00 for 96 oz. If you bought the mug for $14.95 and had 5 - 21 oz. beers in your mug at $9/beer you would spend $59.95 for 105 oz. I'm pretty sure I can have 5 beers in 7 days to make it worth buying the mug. Someone please check my math. If the beer is $6/beer the breakeven is around 6-21 oz vs. 8-16 oz. beers.

DD actually brought home 3 mugs in her carry on without breaking them from that cruise. I had $100 in Disney Visa beverage OBC that needed to be used, and buying mugs as souvenirs seemed like a good use of it.

There was a thread where somebody broke it down. Let me see if I can find it.
I found a comparison of bottles versus the mugs. Don't know if that will help.

The math looks right, but don't forget the 15% auto gratuity. Also I think when I was on board the Dream a few weeks ago the mug was up to $16.95, but the pre-order on the DCL website still has it as $14.95. But I think it's worth it. :)

You can, but they only hold about 16 oz, which is the same as the plastic cup refills if I remember correctly, so you aren't getting a cost savings bringing your old cup, just a fancy cup to carry around.

Is it worth ordering the mug in advance to be in the stateroom on arrival or should we just do it on the ship? I was thinking that there might be an extra gratuity if we ordered it in advance.

Thanks!

I had read somewhere before that you might as well do it on the ship, so that you don't have to wait until your room is ready to get your first one. But if there is a price difference, or gratuity difference now, that could make it worth ordering in advance? Hopefully somebody can clear this up. :)
