Bedding Report is simply GROSS!

The only thing I do is pull the comforter off of the bed and put it in the corner of the room. I have done alot of traveling for business and have stayed in more than my share of hotels - don't have the time or the energy to clean a bathroom or take extra linens, etc.
Plus, when I'm at Disney World, DH and I don't spend much time in our hotel room anyway!! LOL!

Although I was told by Disney housekeeping that comforters and blankets are changed between guests one of the first things I do when I arrive is call housekeeping and ask them to bring up clean comforters and blankets. I wait to be they arefresh ones, give the mousekeeper a good tip and gracious thank you.

I usually pull the old ones off the bed so it is waiting for them, but I am not all that comfortable doing so..I also bring disinfectant wipes and wipe the remote, door handles etc and use tissue I used to pack with to line the drawers.

Some might think it obsessive, but I've seen too many 20/20 or 60 mins shows about what can be left behind, unintentionally, by all of us. Yuck. I prefer clean!!

I also request clean sheets everyday - gosh, I'm on vacation!!

Maybe it's that I'm in denial......or maybe it's because I was raised by a mother who would keep hamburger meat until it was turning green, but, none of this stuff ever bothers me.

I travel alot, and I'll tell you, it makes staying in hotels and using the public bathrooms about as stress free as you can get.

I'm 48.....(ugh!), I get a cold about once every two years......stomach flu about once every 5 yrs......other than that, I've never been sick.

I'm not sure what my point is.......I'm sure there are millions of nasty germs all over the place.....

Maybe "Ignorance is Bliss"? Either that or I have a really good immune system!!!::yes::

I worked my way through college as a hotel maid. They only change bedspreads, comforters and blankets if they are obviously dirty. Hotels just plain do not stock enough bedding to change them more than a few times a year. I always remove the bedspread, and keep the room warm enough to just use the sheets.:guilty:

...I'd read on the DIS [a while back] about bedbugs at an unnamed WDW resort. Talk about EWWWW!!!!!!! I usually bring a small can of Lysol and spray the top of the bed AND the mattress. Even if it doesn't kill ALL the germies, at least it smells better......

Ever since I saw the 20/20 report on hotel room cleanliness I've been pretty grossed out.

You gotta remember something else too: your head is on that lovely pillow most of the night, who cares about the comforter? Due to allergies we wash our bed pillows several times a year and toss them every so often or give them to our dog (permanently). How many times do you think a hotel does that (wash, not the give to dog part)? I usually travel with a pillow anyway, or at least an extra pillowcase or two - good for pillows, dirty clothes, etc. so I don't worry too much. I mean if you let it get to you, no one would ever stay in a hotel (hmm wonder if that's why I spent ages 1-16 in an RV...) so you just do what you can. As long as you don't end up on a 20/20 report yourself, you're fine :)

You do have to admit though that when they point that black light around the room and it hits the ceiling and the whole ceiling lights up pretty much, you gotta laugh a little...then grab the Clorox wipes...

This is what I will do, I am going in Jan. and I have bad sinus allergies, certain colognes perfumes etc can close my sinuses down almost instantly and for 24 hrs or more. I called the resort that I have ressies in and they said just call 4 days before I am due and they will make sure that the bedding is all fresh. Still gotta ba an amount for trust on my side but if I wake up not being able to breath a quick call will get it rectified I am sure.

We just returned from Pop Century last week. In the bags of dirty laundry outside of the rooms, I saw lots of bedspreads. There were also lots of spreads on the clean linen carts. That leads me to believe they are changed between guests.

I just do it the easy way without having to look "weird" to the housekeeping staff. Moments after entering my room, I "accidentally" spill a can of coke on the bed. One quick call to housekeeping and all of the offending articles are removed and replaced. Voila! princess:

This cleanliness thing is interesting to me.

First of all, I can't tolerate the scratchy bedspreads in hotel rooms, so I always turn them back. I moved onto comforters long ago in my own house, and those polyester spreads (and I was just at the Boardwalk last week, so I know they are still using them) are like sandpaper to me.

Second, I'm more worried about people propping their bare, sweaty feet (with a good dose of toe jam) on the bedspread - I'm talking about feet that have been trooping through the park all day in thick socks and shoes. I'm more concerned with that than I am other bodily fluids-maybe I'm weird, but I think that's a pretty common scenario-I see hubby doing this every evening!

I know they can't possibly change the bedspread very often. It's too expensive to be washing them all the time! Same thing with the blankets.

I agree that the tv remote and the phone and the clock radio are probably a bigger "threat" when you are in the room, but think of all the rides you get on and all the "touching" when you hang onto grab bars, going through the turnstiles, resting your hand/arm on the back of the ride - you'd drive yourself nuts thinking about all of this. I'm more worried about people coughing and sneezing on the me than I am bedspreads.

As for the pillows, I'm so tired after a non stop day at the parks that a dirty pillow is the last thing I think about-I'm just glad that pillow is there!!

So, take your vitamins, bring some extra vitamin C, wash your hands, and have a great time. How much time do you spend in your room anyway?

How about telephones?

There is something for a germaphobic to think about................ ;)

Okay I have this figured out

I am going to stop at Costco's or Sam's Club and buy the Biggest commercial roll of Plastic wrap they have and wrap everything in plastic, kinda shrink wrap those nasty old germs right in there. lol

Have to admit the thought of what may take place on the bedspreads does bother me a little, I have traveled all my life and never gave it a thought before this thread(thank you very much;) ) but I am not going to let it slow me down at all. If I was gonna die from a bedspread it would have been in some of hte third world countries I visited in the late 60's or early 70'3. What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.

Yep, totally agree with you here. I'm much more concerned about touching the railings at say, Test Track, then I am about the bedspread in my room!!! We do carry Purell with us in our fanny packs and every couple of hours we use it!! If I was really concerned about my bedspread, I would just bring a flat sheet with me and put it over the bedspread. Also you can always bring along those zipper pillowcases and stick the pillow in that and then use your own case. Nope, too many other things to worry about. You won't see me cleaning the bathroom or changing the bedding while on vacation. I think we all need a few germs in our lives to make us more resistant to the really bad stuff out there.

YUCKKKK!!!!

I am really not a germophobic but the whole idea of hotels never changing comforters makes my skin crawl.

if you call Mousekeeping for clean comforters, do they bring them right away?

I am with you...there are SOOOO many germy things in Disney, the comforter is the last thing I am worried about...I just fold it to the end of the bed and don't think about it. As long as my toilet is clean...I am ok..

I did stay at a DAYS in once over by Sea World and my DD who was 18 months at the time was walking in her sock feet and her socks were BLACK!!! I am not talking about alittle dirty, I mean like tar was on them...that sheeved me enough to never stay at a cheapy resort again...I do bring slippers to the hotels now for that reason...I don't really think about the germs as much as the dirt!

Good tip on bringing slippers. I hadn't thought of that. I really hadn't thought about any of this until I started reading your posts. EEEWWWW!

There were some sheets that were starting to get faded here at home that I was going to toss or give to Goodwill. Maybe I'll just take them to DW when we go and then leave them there.

I have to agree with whoever said you're more likely to catch something touching the rails/bars/restaurant tables, etc. in the parks, but all the same.

The black washcloth would have torked me a bit especially if it was in a deluxe. Yikes!
