Dave: What a great wedding location and story--I can remember the date, for sure, as it's one of my BF's birthday!
I think military dress is very sharp, and there's no doubt that Erica was a beautiful bride. Also, it's very cool that your anniversary gift to each is other involves walking by each other's side over a LS, and enjoyable, D--very symbolic!
Howard: Oh, no! You're human!
And I thought you were a member of the Justice League.
I'm so sorry to hear about the hip flexor strain; I don't know that I've every had one (which is probably a good sign that I haven't). Thanks for all the information, and I know you're doing the right things to recovery quickly and safely. Congratulations for stopping before it became a more serious injury--very smart thinking, with an eye on those long-term goals! Just another reason you deserve groupies, IMO.
Aloha Jeff:
Did you know 19 was your lucky number before the lovely women came into your life?
Mike: I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the pain is simply residual, and that your next run reveals you to be fully recovered. It does sound like your new shoes are much, much better for you. Too back about your TP's side stitch, though. I assume this TP is the same one as for your tri? (You two cracked me up, at least in terms of your RR's description of your relationship.) Your theory about weight and the scale sounds so...healthy! I need to focus more on those things than the numbers! Or at least the numbers of my tape measure...
Ewwww. But for some reason now I WANT to pet the sweaty things.
AmyK: Don't you just love getting miles in and running errands? I feel like a multitasker! And you're saving on gas, too!
Great news about working out your miles for ToT (big yay for seeing you at that one) and your RftC. I think you're spot on with using a 5K on the latter--it's a great time to establish your PR for the distance. In terms of computers, I'm an Apple gal myself and own a Macbook. I don't need the newer Macbook Air, but it's so pretty....
Maria: 6 days of scheduled workouts--and still counting!
You sound as good as you feel! My weight fluctuates a lot daily, too, but I think my body just rebels against any movement.
So, you'll have some more physical activity jumping up and down during your family's cheering on the Olympians. That, and walking around Canobie Lake Park, a place I've never heard of. Take plenty of pics for us. Speaking of trips, I think your alone-time with DH at marathon weekend (well, sort of alone, as you'll be with us too) will be just lovely.
I know you'll miss DS, but he needs to be in school and you'll enjoy your adults weekend.
Oh, and thanks for the anniversary wishes--I hadn't thought about my secret marriage getting in the way of others' well wishes. Glad I have my WISHmates to provide them! And yeah, I feel like such a celeb. Very Beyonce.
P.S. Wouldn't a class on Plum be cool? I did teach a class on Crime Fiction, but it didn't include Evanovich. I had one book by Sara Paretsky, and 9/10 students hated it. (It was "literary" the way Hammett or Chandler or Himes were. I told them, nicely, they were all genre snobs because that's what English departments taught them to be.)
Stacie: What a cool date for an anniversary. I usually judge cool, in part, by whether I could remember the date. I could remember yours, and it's associated with a party to boot!
I have to admit, I'm envious of all those folks getting married on 8-8-08 for just such a reason. (Btw, we celebrate our anniversary on 8/14 because it's exactly 6 months past Valentine's day. I'm much more likely to remember the date that way. Yep, it's me who can't remember such things.
Good luck with doing your bike ride around town in this evening, and at a time of light car traffic. I like bike riding on Sundays for the same reasons you do. And let us know if you score any discounts for your rooms--enquiring minds want to know!
Cindy: Yay for joining the do-over club! Just another opportunity to revisit solid plans and make them even stronger, right? I'm soooo sorry to hear about your emotional turmoil.
There is such pressure to do everything 110% of our efforts, isn't there? Big congratulations to you on the realization--with the help of our wise WISHers--what your priorities are. Your kids should be priorities, much more so than the boards. And don't forget your needs, too.
We know you're here, and support you 100%. Basically, what Connie said (she's so eloquent).
Speaking of which, WTG on your 5K and 10 mile races. Big news on your placement in your AG and improving your speed. You're doing very well. And your WO/nutrition plans get a big thumbs-up, too!
Oh, and thanks for taking the time to address everyone here, btw. (My plan B? Um....being really pissy about the whole thing.
No, this is my preferred teaching gig. If it's a no go, I continue with my current work. Either way, I'm underemployed--this gig is just better.)
Connie: Happy birthday to your DD!
Man, somebody robbed you at the cradle, didn't they?! I didn't know you used to be an instructor. Small world, eh? I really like the idea of celebrating two anniversaries, especially if you have an interesting reason for doing so. And a blind-date that turns into lifelong partners. Verrrrry interesting!
And I'm sure there are stories about you and DOOC first getting to know each other that are worth telling!
Good luck with your training (2010, already?), and what's your trail race?
Tracey: Ooooh, high praise for DH. Right up there with chocolate. Wow! Great job with the 3 miles, which sounds like they were really tough. And to go back and do 2 tonight, plus crunches and push ups. Very motivated, you are! How do you feel about DS being in high school? (First year for him? Depends on the HS grade levels for school, I guess.)
Jeanne: I saw your thread on the EE medal and showed it to DOOD. He groaned, so who knows what that means?
It's good, I think. The race isn't filling, last time I checked, which is also good (for us). Just got the next disc of The Tudors. We'll be watching it soon--much more fun than the book Brideshead Revisited. (I understand the miniseries was a blast, though.) Tell your son that if I end up teaching these film classes I'll be using a clip of Children of Men, along with other films, to talk about the tracking shot. With Touch of Evil, of course. (He'll understand the comparison I think, even if you don't, and his reaction will tell me if it'll play with a younger generation.)
As for me: Thanks everyone for the well wishes on the anniversary and the job situation. I'm obviously happy about the former (and my secret marriage, Maria!
)! And I'm okay with the latter--it's the nature of the non-tenure track academic gig, which I tend to forget. I left my tenure-track gig to move to Pgh, and had forgotten/surpressed this kind of instability. It's par for the course with many academic institutions. Doesn't make me less impatient, mind you...
I'm glad I have you all to talk to about it, because that means I'm less likely to say something impolitic to the wrong people. You're the right people to say something impolitic to!
Today was running. I'd intended to add some XT to the session, but was feeling kind of wiped, so just did my 3.5 + cool down. I might add Pilates tonight. We'll see what DOOD's in the mood for.
There is the possibility for an informal observation of our anniversary, you know. (I was going to say small, but thought you'd all take that the wrong way. Shame on you!
)

Aloha Jeff:
OMG! I'm going to use that joke whenever I can! Great news about your pain-free arch on your run!Abbreviated (why is that such a long word, meaning a shortened word?) from the weekly thread.

1) Don't sweat the petty things.
2) Don't pet the sweaty things...
