Beth: Yay for DS's strong placement. He must be very pleased, and you too. 5 home runs & 28 points. Wow-ee! I remain impressed by your mileage and dedication. 8 1/2s and counting.

And as we all know, it's not just the race-day miles, it's the training. Like 10 miles at noon, which is fabulous if somewhat intimidating. Yay on losing those stray 4 pounds. They're really not too easily domesticated, anyway.
One of the things I look forward to reading about in your posts is how you just get out there and do it--I certainly can't tell you're anything less than super-motivated. I mean, you've got the early a.m. workouts that you make sure you get in, the speedwork, the miles, the races, the XT. And you've got a busy work schedule, the family and their busy athletic schedules, maintaining the household (new vacuum and all), and you still take the time to post wagon tips (which I know take time to come up with and are much appreciated). Again, wow-ee!
Jeanne: I'm so sorry for your stonker. I actually think you were wise--I find I bonk in the heat pretty easily. I didn't realize you and John were considering doing races together. That's pretty cool, even if the experiment goes awry. (I just know you're thinking like 626, so I'll just say "like 626, right?) I'm sorry training hasn't been going so well--sporadically, I'd think, what with all that's been going on with you. I haven't kept close track of all that you've done, but I'll bet if you looked at your calendar you'd about faint if you wrote down all the busy-ness!
One of the reasons I'm so glad your on this thread [that is when you get the time

] is because you're such a strong and strong-willed athlete. I mean, you did a marathon with less than 20 miles under your belt? I didn't know that, and don't think I could do it. (Which is why my training starts early--I still fear not finishing.) But not only did you do your marathon last year, you're back for more. Oh, and I have to remind you that you actually have a training schedule that increases your miles from last year.
Oh, and I don't know Bryan real well--I think he must post on the walker thread?--but I just love his enthusiasm and can-do attitude (very similar to yours...hmmm)! It's my understanding that he's recently committed to races and has really pushed himself, making great strides?
Mike: Ah, the start/stop with Garmin laps makes sense. I'm like you--I'd just call it good. Path of least resistance, you know? But then I see Connie has offered a solution. (I actually have a word file with Garmin tips for my future toy.) I responded to your thread about the NB shoes, but forgot to mention a source for retired styles:
Joe's New Balance Outlet. I looked there for your 881s, but they didn't have any men's shoes. But it might be a good place for the future--I'm waiting for my shoes to go on sale and then picking up a couple of pairs.
Connie: Great tip with the Garmin. Between that and the Bodybugg you're my go-to tech person! And filled with information on nutrition--like the fortified label--that I never think of. I love any reason for a banana split--I didn't have one Saturday. But I did have one of those new Starbucks Vivannio drinks with protein in it--chocolate banana. Almost as good!

I'm sorry to hear your shoulder doesn't seem to be improved. And that the drugs have not only kept you from DISing but have probably eliminated you from any last-minute participation in the Olympics.

I'm going to try to adopt that positive attitude of yours, which has lifted me up on many a day, and send you good vibes for your health and return to training!

After all, you have a marathon to train for with Goofy 2010 (me too), and I just have to meet up with you on the course! Good luck with your 4 miles today! P.S. Speaking of keikes, how are all the keikes in your life doing? And your DD?
Wendy:
I went to bed early like a good little marathoner-in-training,
I love it!

I, too, will watch tv when I'm on a TM. It's at the gym, and so my choices are somewhat limited, but I kind of feel like I'm getting a two-for-one deal is the right thing is playing. Working out my body and my mind. And watching Olympic specials and
Miracles while doing your miles? A match made in heaven! You've got such determination in meeting your goals--very cool to read about!
Strutting Panda: You have every right to strut, given your 4-miler PR and your weight workout. I just wish you would do it in a leisure suit!

Wise words from the Panda regarding rest days and keeping ourselves on steady path toward fitness gains. DOOD and I blew the rest idea--accidentally--on Sunday. (See below.) You're so passionate and eloquent about fitness for all Americans, I'm sure whoever our new first lady is she'll listen to you. Are you practicing your speech.
Vic: Woo hoo for the 6.75 miles. (Hey, it's not my foot pod so I don't need to split the difference.) No wonder you feel tuckered out!
Howard: Sorry Sunday's run was brutal. But, hey, I'm seeing some sweet double-digits in that total! And you really some nice splits in there, too. And in bigger news (shouldn't that be smaller?), Yay for being 18 pounds down, with 7 to go!

That's fantastic!
Stacie: Lots of activity to celebrate. Way to stick with your C25K plan and commit to w3d3, even if it means back-to-back runs. And you got new bikes (both you and Matt, I assume) and did some miles there, too. Fantastic! That Trek is pretty sweet-looking. Have you named it yet? (And a tiny little "awww" for the MM fish, because it's so tiny.)
And you're just so excited that it's impossible not to be excited for you. You should know that I love reading how you and Matt are doing more and more athletic things together, and that you're getting lots of members of your extended family involved. That's so cool.

Plus, I admire how you're taking charge of your health, adopting a gluten-free diet, and have jumped on the multiple 5K race-bandwagon. That's a lot of changes and you're handling them all so well. And you know it's made me look at the gluten in my life with new eyes (and some suspicion) and consider trying some fun 5ks.
Aloha Jeff: Great pictures. Dole Whip, beaches, sunsets. I hate you.

And then you have to turn around and confirm you're doing the Nike World Run Day. So I like you, too. Dang it, it's just too confusing around here.
Maria: That's the kind of WISH DISing hiatus we can all get behind. "I'm too busy to post, I'm working out!"

You're totally focused on hitting your August goals, and are doing just great! 3 days and 20 miles. Yay for your and your list! I didn't know you don't like gyms--I hope it wasn't because of any traumatic experiences. I'm not sure if I appear focused at the gym. Maybe dazed and confused.

(Now there's a smilie that doesn't get used nearly enough.) Plum #3 is coming up. Good luck with your nutso week and all your workouts. You've been steadily increasing your everyday activity as well as your WOs, and that ability to include exercise with your work has really encouraged me to be better about doing the same.
Lisa: Great news on your race. You definitely lost 19+ seconds tying your shoe. I'm so proud of you--you set your speed goal and, IMO, achieved it in all but chip time. You earned those clams. And super cool that you may have found extra motivation in the belly-button piercing. You're always so very clear and focused on your goals that you're going to be a great PT, and a navel ring with just emphasize your abs for your clients. (Because if you've got it, flaunt it--when the right occasion comes along, of course!)
Tracey: Yay, you're back. I know August is busy, busy, busy for you (and all parents) but it's good to see you. I'm so glad your kids liked
Wall-E. One reason? I can't think of a single scatological joke in it, even though it has many humorous moments. A pleasant surprise in animated movies. See, you're another person at the 6 mile mark (and w/o intervals) and increasing. At least I've got examples to follow, on and off the course. I really like that you make activity fun for you and your family--running isn't separate from what you do with your DSs. It's part of it. And they benefit as well--and do very well, by all accounts. Yay for DS's new PR and 1st place in AG.
AmyK: WTG with C25K and 4.5 miles on the beach. That's great time and mileage for the program. I'm sorry you got sunburned, though. I hope it is a mild case and heals quickly. I'm paying careful attention to your progress through C25K as the plan is what I cut my teeth on, and what I return to for interval experimentation. You're doing so well with it, and your enthusiasm is contagious! You should totally do Goofy 2010. What types of XT doing you like to do?
I saw soooo many people (okay, girls and women) reading
Breaking Dawn this weekend. I feel out of the loop. It sounds like Meyer's books are roughly following the trajectory of the Harry Potter series; the fourth book got considerably darker. Didn't she also write T
he Host (her adult, sci fi novel) between
Eclipse and
Breaking Dawn? That might have had an influence. Regardless, I know you were looking forward to new book and hope you weren't too disappointed. My library still hasn't gotten me
Twilight yet, and I expect there's quite a waiting list. Should I read
The Host while I wait?
As for me: Thank you all, for the reality check with the 6 miles. I guess my problem is that the 6 miler FELT like it was much, much longer than it was. On such days, I tell myself "C'mon, you've done longer," "Six miles isn't even 1/4 of a marathon," etc. but I still tend to be disappointed.
Sunday got a little out of control. It was my and DOOD's rest day, so we decided we'd take a short trail hike in an area we hadn't fully explored. Well, 2 1/2 hours and 7+ miles later, we figured out where we were....Good thing we brought water bottles along. And at least were were under heavy shade, so no sunburn. Then it was an afternoon of recovery and an outdoor evening performance of
Cymbeline. I was tuckered out.
So this morning I said to DOOD that I didn't think I felt like running. He said, "What does your training plan say?" I gave him the stink-eye. It's hard to resent him when he's right, but I sure did try. Anyway, I did it--I was tired but kept to my schedule.
And in leaner news, I did lose a pound last week. It's a tidbit of news, really, but a good tidbit.
