Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

:offtopic:

(Leeana)

Follow up to a post from the other week about the 18 year old kid who was tragically killed on his bicycle, while riding home here on Oahu.

Well after nearly two weeks, they finally found the vehicle that struck him. It belonged to a carpet installation company. They allow their employees to use the company vehicles for personal use. In other words, they can drive their vehicles home, and during non work hours.

The local police really messed up with their investigation. They were on the lookout for a red truck or a red van, and were making public statements on the news to be on the lookout. Well it ended up being a white van.

The company that owns the van, had reported the damage to the police department. An officer went to view the vehicle, and failed to file a report. It wasn't the red truck they were looking for.

Once a anonymous tip was called in, the police went to a auto repair shop, where the van was about to be repaired.

They arrested the driver, held him for 46 hours. And unbelivably they let him out after posting bail, pending further investigation.

I'm sure the family is suffering enough, but to let the guy out, that's unacceptable to me.

Hi Everyone!

DD did well with her test, at least as well as you'd expect a 13 month old to do. She screamed bloody murder for the entire 10 minute procedure. But was fine as soon as we could pick her up off the table. I don't think catheters really hurt ( I was too druuged up during labor to remember mine).
I think she was mad we had to hold her down. Her pedi will have the results within a day or 2.

Pilates tonight and/or a walk.

Debra Forgot to say :yay: :woohoo: on the weight loss. I was finally brave enough to get back on the scale today and was pleased to find that I have zero'ed myself back to my pre-vacation weight. I had gained about 5 pounds. Now I can start in on the 10 pounds I would like to lose before my beach vacation in mid september. As for XT, I am trying to branch out a bit in that area. I am getting into Pilates, and I do stroller walks with DD. I am thinking of adding some pool exercises. I also want to work in some lightweights I think at some point. and biking. I am ambitious. Debating joining the Y so I'd have more options. Decisions, decisions.

On a happy trip planning note, DH and I are trying to decide where we should stay in October and January. I hope to book something this week. Is it easy to go back and change ressies if a resident or passholder rate ends up being lower?

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Aloha Jeff: Year-round school--sounds like a good thing to me! :thumbsup2 And very much like college, a schedule that I'm familiar, maybe too familiar, with. Hopefully the Queen likes it, too. I'd imagine the Princesses are used to being treated like celebrities; I remember some of the early pics you took of them getting autographs and photo ops with running celebs. They certainly are photogenic.

I read your list of foods, and I have to say it sounds pretty tasty. I can see why all those goodies might not be conducive to losing weight. Then again, I don't think you need to. Must be your running club's motto working for you. And I got a good chuckle at the cartoons and really enjoyed your description of catching and neutralizing (ew) tako. You always provide us with cool visual things--and now I'm gaining some insights into Hawaiian language and culture, too. . :goodvibes Plus, now I know you scuba dive--you're an all-around athlete.

Oh, and  to the driver of the van who killed the bicyclist. to the family at this difficult time.

Stacie: I'm with you--a strong margarita to go with spicy Mexican food. You want to balance out the flavors, you know. Yay for getting your reservations!

You're back in the pool--this time for swimming! (You're my aquacise water baby, you know.) 1/2 hour is impressive, and I can see you enjoying lessons and even more pool time. You should definitely get new goggles, I think. Good gear is never extraneous, IMO.

Tracy: Ugh to losing electricity; I have to go around resetting the clocks and other minor annoyances. But....good for you for going out for a run anyway. (And with a good time, too.) I sometimes wish DOOD was the "stay in bed" type, but he's a morning lark when it comes to the running. Going to bed early, that's another story. ;) And just when I want to pop a movie into the DVD player, too.

AmyK: I'm glad you enjoyed (mostly) Breaking Dawn. I know how it feels to be let down by a favorite series. I'll definitely be seeing the film adaptation of Twilight, too. Can't miss a phenomenon. I wonder what her next project will be? Yay for doing w4d1 and for finding a good, sustainable pace. :yay: I think you're doing a really smart thing with your long cool downs, too. I've been trying to emulate that strategy and it seems to work. Love the tunes, btw! Catheters, though, I don't love so much. IME, they don't cause pain, really, I was just aware of "things." DD sounds like quite the feisty trouper with the whole situation. (The holding down thing...yea, I'm willing to bet that was a bigger factor.)

Congratulations on your weight loss back to your pre-vacation weight. That's terrific! You really have been doing great with becoming leaner. I'm a big proponent of Ys for the family vibe, the classes, the potential for variety. I don't belong to one currently, but my FC operates very much like one in those respects. Very family-oriented and even has trainers who specialize in physical therapy & gerontology. I like being around people of all ages and backgrounds. So, yeah, I like the Y or other community centers/gyms.

Your ressie question: I have to defer to others on this one, but it's my understanding that it's easy. The only thing you have to be aware of is if you have numerous special requests that accompany the reservation (e.g. fridge, location, birthdays, etc.). In that case, make sure you double-check with the CM who makes the change to make sure nothing gets accidentally deleted.

Howard: Why do your fun facts make me go ? That's terrific, and certainly provides info that helps create a bigger picture of your leaner success (not to mention the miles and pace). Even thought I know it's not particularly accurate, I do so love looking at my totals on my Nike+. Oh, and you had a very healthy XT day in terms of variety.

Mike: I hope you and your 6yo enjoyed the Museum of Science and Industry--I'm sure you did, as a matter of fact. And I'm sending you some PD for a good, pain-free run tomorrow on your new shoes. After a couple of days off, it'll feel really good to get out there I'm sure! :)

Beth: Woo hoo for the early a.m. run--we expect that kind of strong will from you. But double and triple woo hoo for a night in Atlantic City with DH! :woohoo: It sounds so right to have a date night! That's a healthy family relationship example to follow!

As for me: An odd day, schedule-wise. I met with my new (would-be?) Chair about my fall teaching situation, her suggestion. I don't know why--nothing's changed. In other words, she's still expecting approval to go through and expecting me to teach the film classes. But still no formal word from administration. And no contract. I'm being too hard on her--she's being very reassuring. She explained that she'd been promised an answer on the situation yesterday (and to expect a green light); that's why we met today. It's just that I'm frustrated. And a big part of the reason I'm frustrated is because it interfered with my workout schedule. I ended up working out tonight, which isn't nearly as good for me. I got my XT in, but it throws me a bit off.

On a happier note, tomorrow is DOOD and my 1-year wedding anniversary. Oh, we've been together forever, but married for a year. Our big plans? Nothing like the "healthy relationship" advice Beth so sagely provided. I told him I'd make him dinner tomorrow; when he told me I was going to do that anyway, I replied, "I was hoping you wouldn't figure that out." :lmao: No, really, we'll both be working tomorrow and won't really celebrate our "anniversary" until the 14th. It's not our wedding anniversary, but it's the day we celebrate becoming a committed couple--no need to change the date, right? (That's not to say I won't try to convince him on a little celebration tomorrow, not if I can double-dip on observing the occasion. With ice cream and other forms of sweetness, of course! ;) )

Debra, Erica and I were married in Okinawa Japan. We had our church wedding on friday the 13th. But because I didn't have a birth certificate with me on the island we were not legally married untill the 23rd of Dec.

We had a military wedding with our dress uniforms and Erica had hired a seamstress to make her dress.

Our anniversity gift to each oher is our trip to Gatlinburg Tenn to relax and train on the mountain roads. We usually do our last and longest LSD there the 2nd week of Dec. We do a 5 mile the first day a 20 mile the second and a 10 mile the third. Then we taper for the next 3 weeks till the marathon.

Leaner Panda:hippie:

Hi everyone!

I found out today that I am human. :rolleyes1 I had a scheduled 3 miler that I went out on this morning. A relatively short distance compared to my last run of 12.6. At about .25 miles into the run I felt an "uncomfortable feeling" in my right thigh. I pulled up and shook it out, tried to run again and it was a bit more unpleasant. So, I walked the balance of my 3 miles. My pace sucked, but I finished. I believe what I have is affectionately known as a hip flexor strain. Here is the information I've found online about it.

What is a hip flexor strain?
A strain is a stretch or tear of a muscle or tendon, a band of tissue that connects muscle to bone. The tendon may be inflamed. Inflammation of a tendon is called tendonitis. The hip flexor muscles allow you to lift your knee and bend at the waist.

How does it occur?
Hip flexor strain occurs from overuse of the muscles that help you flex your knee or do high kicks. This injury occurs in bicyclists, athletes who jump or run with high knee kicks, athletes like soccer players who do forceful kicking activities, and people who practice the martial arts.

What are the symptoms?
You have pain in the upper groin region where the thigh meets the pelvis.

How is it diagnosed?
Your health care provider will examine your hip and thigh. You will have tenderness at the muscle and tendon.

How is it treated?
Treatment may include: putting ice packs on the injured area for 20 to 30 minutes every 3 to 4 hours for 2 to 3 days or until the pain goes away
taking anti-inflammatory medicines prescribed by your health care provider doing rehabilitation exercises to help you return to your activity.

While you are recovering from your injury, you will need to change your sport or activity to one that does not make your condition worse. For example, you may need to swim instead of bicycling or running.

How long will the effects last?
The length of recovery depends on many factors such as your age, health, and if you have had a previous hip flexor injury. Recovery time also depends on the severity of the injury. A mild hip flexor strain may recover within a few weeks, whereas a severe injury may take 6 weeks or longer to recover. You need to stop doing the activities that cause pain until the hip has healed. If you continue doing activities that cause pain, your symptoms will return and it will take longer to recover.

When can I return to my normal activities?
Everyone recovers from an injury at a different rate. Return to your activities will be determined by how soon your hip recovers, not by how many days or weeks it has been since your injury has occurred. In general, the longer you have symptoms before you start treatment, the longer it will take to get better. The goal of rehabilitation is to return you to your normal activities as soon as is safely possible. If you return too soon you may worsen your injury.

You may safely return to your activities when, starting from the top of the list and progressing to the end, each of the following is true:

You have full range of motion in the leg on the injured side compared to the leg on the uninjured side.

You have full strength of the leg on the injured side compared to the leg on the uninjured side.

You can walk straight ahead without pain or limping.

How can I prevent a hip flexor strain?

Hip flexor strains are best prevented by warming up properly and doing stretching exercises before your activity. If you are a bicyclist make sure your seat is raised to the proper height.

I do have some good news. First, I didn't really run on it after it began to hurt so I don't think I did much straining of it. Second, I can walk virtually pain free (I feel a dull presence of pain, but it doesn't "hurt") and third, I am going to take tomorrow and the next day off (if needed) to rest it. I haven't yet iced it down, but may do that before bed tonight just in case it helps. I was at work all day on the leg and going up and down stairs without pain. So, if this is a strain it is a mild one.

I'll consider myself lucky, but not out of the woods yet. Has anyone else dealt with one of these before?

:grouphug:

Hey WISH team.

Abbreviated (why is that such a long word, meaning a shortened word?) from the weekly thread.

I got in my 8 miles with Guru Les. The first 6 were about a 8:40 minute pace. The last two I had to cool my jets. Average for all 8 was exactly 9 minutes on the button. No aches or pains in the arch, so that was a plus.

Yea, I just got emailed that the Spirit of the Marathon movie is finally coming to Honolulu for 3 nights in September. Will definitely be seeing that! I guess sending them about 6 emails finally got them to screen it out here.

5 slow miles (about an hour), minimal pain on the New NB shoes; I felt pretty good, walked due to training partners side stitch.

I think the pain was mostly residual, so I got that going for me, which is nice!

Mike

Morning, Everyone!

2.5 walking miles last night to return a movie to Blockbuster! W4D2 tonight for me. Out daily t-storms are supposed to hit this evening, so I may be stuck with the TM.

I also did some more work on my training spreadsheet. The TOT race isn't going to line up perfectly in terms of the mileage of my LR's at that point (I think that week calls for 5 or 6 miles), but I figure if I just take it easy, it should be fine. I have also decided to register for the RFTC 5K instead of 10K. I will have just finished C25K at the time of race so I figure it would be a great opportunity to PR a 5K and fits in well with the LR for 1/2 training for that weekend.

DH's desktop PC has unfortunately died. blue screen of death. Since it is 4 or 5 years old, it will be cheaper and makes more sense for us to buy a new one. Any suggestions?? We have had good experiences with our Dell's but I think we're ready to try something else. I like how a lot of the newer computers are all in one with no tower.

Mike Glad to hear the new shoes are working out!

Howard hope your hip is feeling better!

Debra Happy Anniversary! :) I hope you hear some definite job news soon!

 to everyone ! :cheer2:

Good Morning Meaners!

I'm happy to report I'm still on schedule -- Day 6 and I haven't missed a workout yet. It's a good feeling. I've been getting up at 5:30 every day to do 2 miles on the TM. I'm really enjoying it. Not the getting up part, but being on the TM feels great.

I think my body is confused. My weight seems to fluctuate alot from day to day -- we're talking 2-4 lbs :confused3 It just goes down and up without rhyme or reason. Once I get used to this new schedule, I'm sure I'll see consistent losses.

Mike -- So glad you felt good on your run! I know you are itching to get back to your Olympic training schedule! :thumbsup2 I hope you had a wonderful time at the MOS. I still remember going on a field trip there my junior year in high school. We had a chartered bus, and one of my BFFs and I had a fantastic time. This was my physics class -- which I don't remember a word of, but I do remember there were a ton of cuties...probably why it seemed like a good choice in the first place! ;) Who said future scientists can't be eye candy?! :lmao: I am still such a nerd!

Jeff -- I just want to add my thanks for the edumacation part of your posts. It is really interesting to learn about Hawaiian culture and all the really fun but exotic sounding things you do. Here's a tip from my part of the world -- never subject yourself to New England Boiled Dinner -- it is just as tasty as it sounds... :rolleyes1 And I loved the funnies!

Howard -- Oh no! My idol has feet of clay! Seriously, I am so sorry to hear you are injured, but it sounds like you have done your research and have a great treatment plan. Heal quickly! :goodvibes

Dave -- Wow, how romantic to be married in Japan! I think your anniversary trip sounds lovely, very appropriate for a panda and his bride. :bride:

Debra -- Happy Anniversary! party: I guess your only congratulations will come from us, what with that secret marriage and all...;) I think it's cool, very celeb-like. I'm sorry your work situation is still unresolved. I know it is unnerving. Just keep doing what you do, and eventually you will have a contract :wizard: Who knows, after all your reading you could offer a seminar on Plum. That would be a fun class!

Amykab -- I'm so sorry DD had to go through that. It is awful to watch your little one be uncomfortable and not be able to make it better. I'm sure she had lots of snuggle time afterwards to make up for it. Have you decided where you want to stay for the events? That's a great deal of the fun for me -- I love to really think about the resorts and what we might do there. :lovestruc Best of luck with choosing a new computer, I would not dream of giving advice, I'm lucky I can switch the monitor on! :rotfl2:

Tracey -- We fly in Jan. 8th for marathon weekend and we don't leave until the 14th. I am so psyched! It will be great to have a few days after recovery to just hang out and be together, knowing ds is also enjoying his time with his grandparents. We'll miss him, but I can't take a 5th grader out of school. :sad2:

Beth -- DH and I are taking a day off from work later this month to take ds to Canobie Lake Park, it's a local amusement place. We've never been, but he really wants to go. I've told him it won't be like Disney...Since we aren't doing a big family vacation this summer, we told him we'd do day trips. We've done some, but ended up spending alot of time working in our yard and redecorating his room. One family "activity" I'm really looking forward to -- we are planning to watch alot of the Olympics as a family. popcorn::

Stacie -- I was just thinking of you and using your schedule to motivate me! I have a church meeting at 7 tomorrow night, so I won't be home and ready to workout until about 9 as well. I decided if you can do it, I can too! :yay: We are going to get these workouts in!

Wendy, Cindy, Bill, Vic, Connie, Jeanne, Lisa -- Have a great, Lean Mean Day!

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning fellow meannies! :lmao:

Debra...Happy Anniversary!!!! I hope your job situtations get some more clarity today!!! (My anniversary is Cinco de Mayo!!! :goodvibes )

Amy...YES...you can go ahead and make your room ressies and if a code come out, you can call to change it. That's my plan. I NEED a code since we're staying two night at POLY and two night at Coronado Springs. I went ahead and make my room ressies, paid the deposit and if a AP or Visa code come out, I'll call Asap and have them apply the code. :thumbsup2

Maria...Great job getting your workout in 6 days in a row!!! That's great!!! OH and yeah for saving $$$ w/ the AAA discount. I'm still waiting for an AP for Visa code. Patience is not one of my virtures when it comes to that type of thing...

Mike...Glad to hear the shoes are better!!! Any suggestions on the swimming?

Howard...:wizard: for your HIP! Any kind of pain is no fun. You are smart to rest and take it easy! It's more important for you to get the starting line healthy. Maybe Cam will volunteer to give you a massage. :goodvibes

Beth...Great job continuing to get out of Bed. I'm still struggling w/ that. Hope you and DH have/had fun at Atlantic City for the night!

Jeff...So sad about the bicyclist!

Dave...Hi there. How cool you got married in Japan!

Lisa...Where are you??? Miss you!

Everyone else... Check in w/ us and let us know how you're doing! :upsidedow

DH and I are hoping to get out on the bikes again tonight. It will have to be as soon as we get home to get it in before dark. He does have a light on his bike, which is good. I think we'll try for the same "circle" around town. We'll see though. I think a lot will depend on the timing. Hopefully most folks will be home from work and the roads won't be too busy. Sunday morning is a great time for the bikes as there wasn't much traffic this past Sunday.

Have a good day. :thumbsup2

Maria: I find that I fluctuate as much as 5 lbs...I am developing a theory that the weight I see on a scale today reflects choices I made starting 14 days prior in terms of how I ate and exercised. It became much easier for me to pay attention to how clothes fit, energy level, amount I am able to exercise, rather than a scale that was bought at Target for $40.

Just my $0.02

How did you know?! Yes, I did get my Biggest Loser scale at Target for $40! :rotfl:

That is an intriguing theory -- 14 days previous. I had never thought that far back could have an impact. I guess that means in another 8 days, I should see a real drop that stays, or a least something should fit looser! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Mike!

Hello Lean Meaners,

I hope everyone is doing well. I’m with Debra and Tracey, I want a do-over on July. It’s not that I didn’t meet my July goal as long as that goal was to eat as much junk as humanly possible. I think August’s goal will be something a little more moderate.

I’ve been in some emotional turmoil lately. I’m finally coming to the realization that I can’t possibly do every thing I want/have to and give it all the effort it deserves. I’m just spreading myself too thin and as a result I feel like I stink at everything I do. I know there’s a lot of “all or nothing” thinking going on there, but since I feel down about one thing, it’s so much easier to get down about all the rest. I’ve done a lot of thinking about where my priorities should be and the obvious choice is with my kids. With all the various activities I do, I really don’t offer the best “me” to my kids. So I am now making a bigger effort to spend more time with them and to enjoy it more without worrying about all the stuff I “should” be doing. I think it was Jeanne who mentioned that the kids won’t remember that the floor was dirty…(My WISH friends are so wise).
So my apologies for not being a more active member of the Lean Meaners. I feel like I benefit so much from reading this thread, I feel badly I’m not able to reciprocate as much as I’d like.

Mike: Fabulous job on your ½ IM. I really enjoyed reading your race report. I loved how you got so emotional when crossing the finish line. I got chills reading it. I hope your shoe issue is behind you. When is the marathon you are running?

Maria: Congratulations on your 2-a-days. Good for you. Personally I think Morelli’s the best choice for Stephanie, but to dream about Ranger…. Have you read the Carlotta Carlyle series by Linda Barnes? She’s a PI who lives in Cambridge. I love all the local references. I really like the Spencer books for that same reason.

Stacie: Good job getting out on your new bike. How is the gluten-free life-style working? Do you feel like it gives you more energy? Margaritas by the pitcher??? Sounds dangerous to me.

Amy: I’m glad to read you enjoyed your vacation. Glad your DD is on the mend. I’m quite envious you are doing both ToT and RFTT. Pays to live in FLA.

Jeff: I love seeing all the beautiful photos. It seems like you are putting in a lot of mileage. I guess you have to if you want to eat all the tortilla chips with cheese dip, the Pomagranate ice cream from Costco, the Jamba Juice, the pretzels, and the bbq ribs & mashed potato dinner. I think I saw on another thread that you are going to run this year’s Honolulu for a PR? With the pace you do on your LRs I would think you’ll have no problem.

Howard: Congratulations on your weight loss. I hope the hip flexor strain is mild and you are back at if after a couple days. I see in your signature that you are doing both MCM and Philly? Are you going to use one as a training run, or go all out for both? What do you have planned for training in between the races?

Dave: It seems as if you are having some terrific workouts. Is your race this weekend? Best WISHes for a good race.

Debra: Happy Anniversary to you. I didn’t realize you were a newly wed. I hope you have a sweet celebration. Best WISHes to you on the job front. Do you have a plan B if it doesn’t work out?

Beth: I really appreciate the Wagon Tips. I’m sure it is an effort to come up with them, but it’s a great reminder for me. Good job getting up early for your workouts. Have a great time at the PawSox game.

Tracey: I think it was you that said if I’m going as fast as I can it’s running. I absolutely love that saying. As always I am impressed how you manage to fit in your running while taking care of your family.

Jeanne: What exactly is a hooch porch? I really like reading your take on having the kids out of the house.

Connie: I hope your shoulder is better. Would you be willing to share your peach cobbler recipe? We are going camping next weekend and I’d love to make it.

Lisa: Congrats on your race. Sorry about your shoelace incident, but it sounds like you had a great race despite it.

As I mentioned above July was a tough month for me. I did have a bit of success with my running though. I ran a 5K in VA while we were visiting my Mom. It cost nothing to sign up for the race, there were only about 200 runners. I ran a PR (23:34) and I won 2nd in my age group. My first ever award. I also ran a 10 mile race in RI. I finished in 1:26 which is 3 minutes faster than last year. I would have liked to have been a bit faster than that, but since I’ve been concentrating on my short distance speed I can’t be too surprised about it. I’m now in week 7 of my marathon training (Oct 19th). I’ve missed or shortened a few of the runs because of time constraints or high temps, so I feel I’m a bit behind, but I still have a lot of time to make it up.

My goals for August are to get back to doing my Jillian video 2 or 3 times a week, to eat 5 to 7 servings of fruits and veggies every day and to monitor my protein intake. I want to see where I am before I decide if I’m going to try to up it.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Cindylou,

I love this saying :

Rule #2 It's all small stuff.

Hang in there, it all works itself out in the end. Kid's come first. :)

:wave2: Hey Good Meaners!!

Jeff - Thanks for the octopus lesson. I think I have more questions, but since I am not likely to do much octopus hunting in the next little while, I will just let them go. :thumbsup2 I am curious about all things and I try to curb it, so as not to exhaust my instructors!

The poor baby run down, I am so sorry for his parents. Hopefully, the release of the jerk results in a more thourough prosecution and longer sentence.

Debra - Happy Anniversary! I used to be a college instructor and the interminable waiting, waiting, waiting is horribly annoying! I could never understand how the same people who insisted that every student have their paper in on time with no exceptions could justify demanding that others wait! Especially, when you feel the need to begin preparing for a new class. Btw, today is my DD32 birthday. You know the mother of my kiekas! :rotfl: I am, of course, not nearly old enough to be her mother!!!

Great job on the weight loss!!! Good for you!

Dooc and I have two anniversarys a year. We met on New Year's Eve on blind date (pathetic, isn't it?) and were married the following June on the 10th. We celebrate both days!

Maria - Exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcellent! You are doing so well. Hang in there and we will celebrate you with YOU!!!

Cindy - God, family and then everything else. No one can be everything to everyone. Being the best mom you can be will have a far greater impact on the world than any other single thing you could be, do or become. Men shape the world today, women shape the world tomorrow. I wish you fun, happy and rewarding world shaping. :flower3:

Congratulations on your races! Sounds like you did amazing to me! :worship:

Mike - I have come to the conclusion that shoes are the world's first way of saying, "nope, you can't do it. Any kind of endurance racing isn't for you!" Otherwise, there is no reason to manufacture a shoe just in time to discontinue it, except to put one more wall in front of our feets! THat said, new shoes can be really fun! :lmao:

Howard - If that hip doesn't feel great in the next 3 days, see your doctor. Injuries don't usually get better all by themselves. Trust me on this. I have first hand knowledge.

Maria - I don't know about the 14 day thing with the fluctuating weight. I wish I had one of those wonderful little bodies that registered the same weight day after day after day. But I have been tracking mine on daily basis for over a month and to be honest, it is a study in jagged! I am planning to plot it on a graph and see what it looks like over the course of a year. But let's just say, sawtooth is pretty good description right now!

Stacey - Great work on the bike! Love that wind blowing through my helmet as I fly on my bicycle ....

Beth - It is kind of funny to think of oneself as an athlete! Let's all practice saying we ARE athletes!!!!!

Everyone I missed and lurkers! :wave2:

Today. Hmmm, not much going on. I am beginning my official training for both the trail race and marathon training. :scared1: Hopefully, things will work out and everything will go along smoothly! I'm already planning 2010!!!! Btw, did you know this is the day that marks summer is half over?

Make a great day! - Connie

Rule #1 Don't sweat the small stuff
Rule #2 It's all small stuff.

Hang in there, it all works itself out in the end. Kid's come first. :)

similar:

1) Don't sweat the petty things.

2) Don't pet the sweaty things...

Cindy - God, family and then everything else. No one can be everything to everyone. Being the best mom you can be will have a far greater impact on the world than any other single thing you could be, do or become. Men shape the world today, women shape the world tomorrow. I wish you fun, happy and rewarding world shaping.
Connie....this was beautifully written. It made me tear up, thanks for the reminder.:) Happy marathon training and I absolutely do not believe you could have a 32 year old daughter.
Cindy.... glad you're here, you're one of us no matter how often you post.;) Congrats on the PR! That's an awesome time and you are smokin' fast. I learned 15 years ago that for our family it's...God first, family always.
Stacie...now why am I not surprised that your anniversary is Cinco de Mayo. You are so upbeat and full of life, I bet that was on rockin' reception. What a great day to celebrate!
Dave...just when I think you couldn't be more romantic....your little trip sounds like a wonderful way to spend an anniversary.
Maria...we're leaving on Thursday the 8th and returning on the 12th. We would've loved to stay longer, but to get someone to watch 4 boys:scared1: takes alot of persuasion! The only trip we have taken by ourselves (not including business because you're never alone) was our honeymoon to DisneyWorld of course. Our first son was born on our 1 year anniversary! Anyway, we're planning to eat at a couple of nicer restaurants and just enjoy our time together. I jokingly told Rick last night, "I really hope I still like you and that we'll have something to talk about." Luckily, he knows I'm kidding because I think he's the best thing since.....well.....chocolate.;)
Mike....sounds like the new shoes are working out well.
Jeff...so sad about the 18 year old. Such a tragedy. Sounds like you had a great run. Seriously, I really do want to know how you bite an octopus between the eyes.
Amy...from experience, ressies are really easy to change. We had some really bad storms come through here last night. The lightning around here can be really scary. We're on the river bluffs and that seems to make it worse. Nice job on losing the weight. I'm becoming so discouraged, so once again I'm writing down every morsel that goes in my mouth.
Howard...hope that hip is feeling better. I've been lurking around and saw that you and your wife will be doing a vow renewal. That sounds so incredibly romantic.
Debra....Happy Anniversary! I hope it's filled with all kinds of sweetness. You deserve to have a wonderful day. Also, hoping that the teaching position works out for you, it sounds very hopeful.

As for me...I got my 3 miles in at the local high school track today. We were waiting for DS15 to finish HS registration. The little guys and I ran the track, well I ran and every few laps they'd join me for one-it was so stinkin' hot. I really planned on 5 today, but I was exhausted so I'm going to do 2 on the TM tonight. I've also started doing crunches and push ups at night. Take care all and have a wonderful day.

I like that one! :thumbsup2

Cindylou: welcome back! A hooch porch is a place where you drink Hooch! :rotfl: Our old house had a very small balcony off the master bedroom that didn't connect to anything else. It was very private. We never really used it much, but that was the place I would sit with each of my kids if they wanted to shoot the breeze about something and not be in earshot of anyone else. To help break the ice, we would drink a Hooch. Hence, they started calling it the Hooch porch!

Debra: Happy Anniversary to you and DOOD! if you are still on the fence about Expedition Everest, maybe this will convince you to take the plunge:

Everyone else: "HI!"
