Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Good evening Lean Meaners!

Actually got out on the patio and lifted this evening. Felt good.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on my NASCAR shrine. I tell everyone it's an innocent hobby gone terribly wrong. :lmao:

Shan - Sorry to hear about your collectibles. I've had a few shelf disasters myself. :rolleyes1 Two thin mints!? :confused3 :rotfl:

Beth - I'm trying to be good too. Easier said than done.

Tracey - I've been collecting since 1991, and I still buy a few pieces every year. The problem is, I have no room left. :confused3 :rotfl: I haven't been to a race in a couple of years, but I'm hoping to get to the Gator Nationals (Drag racing) in Gainesville in a couple of weeks.

Debra - You are NOT allowed to take my cars out of their display cases and play Vrooom Vrooom on the floor! :rotfl2:

Stacie - Maybe a muscle pull/strain?

Stacie: I would lay money on patellar tendon strain. I have had it in the past. Right at the top of your kneecap where the 2 large muscles converge. Try quad stretches and see if you feel a pull there. Water jogging would not be a bad idea for awhile. When you go back out, nice and slow. I hope it heals soon. Don't forget the ice and ibuprofen.

Vic: As the resident duster I would very much dislike your collection. Also, since I cannot play with Debra on the floor with the cars.....well anyway, it is a nice collection all the same...

Panda in Pain: :wizard: We miss you!!

Bill: Hello, Bill, can you hear us now???? :rolleyes1

Shan: Thin mints...frozen....aaaaaahhhhhhhh

JustSmile: DD has been doing it for 9 years low. Level 8 is killing her though. She is 5'5" and about 120 pounds of packed muscle (the kids make fun of her cuz her arms are all bumpy) and the pressure on her joints is making it harder this year. Her Suke is also killing her. She has only 1 other girl in the 13 age group which is causing her to slack off some. She is just looking forward to December when she can start teaching the younger kids, working on field hockey and softball and oh, mom, can I come to the gym with you?? Gotta love her.

Beth: Go Beth, go Beth, go Beth. You can be good for all of us okay. So any craving that you have, pass it along. LOL. You are doing so well with the breakfast and lunch thing. My issue becomes after my run in the afternoon when I could eat everything in the house. I so wish I could get it done earlier.

So I went for a run yesterday....outside, which should make me :) but instead about 0.5 miles in it started raining, freezing raining, but I had a mission (had to get DH truck from the shop) so I persevered. It was not a bad run but I have had better. Ice, waiting for cars because we have no shoulders left, etcetera made it challenging. I wanted 60 minutes and could not eek it out, I made it 55. I remember when running the 3 miles to town was a great feat for me and now I am looking for where else I can run after I get there. We all have so much to be proud of. Now, where are those thin mints??????

Okay Lean Meaners.......I WILL BE GOOD! I am back on track and have to stay there. My scale went up 2 pounds yesterday.....UGH! It's the crackers, I know it is! I really don't have much problem with noshing during the week, it's the weekends that kill me! The organized schedule during the week, and the packing breakfast and lunch help a great deal. I just need to keep it up on the weekends too. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I got to the gym yesterday for Pilates.....what a great class. It really works every muscle group easily. It's 24 hours later that the pain comes into play! I wish the gym offered it 2x a week instead of just once. I also jumped on the bike for 15 min before class (((((pruely for the miles for the challenge!!!))))

Big Vic: My dh would drool over your room! He was a big SR fan.....now has joined me supporting Jr. Good job getting the strength work done!

Stacie: What Lisa said. I had similar problems a couple of years ago. The problem was the pain when I first starting running, but the pain would go away after about a mile. I would have pain taking stairs, and squating. I ended up with physical therapy and the problem got alot better.

Lisa: I hope your daughter learns to love the physically fit body she has....it's hard though.....her friends are probably the opposite! Little round pot bellies seem to be prevelant in the pre-teen girls! :scared1:

Debra: I hear you girlfriend. I LOVE bagels. I just have to walk away, or all hope is lost! I am such a food addict.......it's a shame. I always say that there is a big fat person inside me, who wants out! My goal is to never be a super obese person on Big Medicine or any special on TLC/Discovery Health channel (((my favorite shows to watch! :cloud9: ))))) Did you ever see the special.....something like "I Eat 35,000 calories a day". I watched that on the treadmill once.......totally into it!

Shan: Don't worry to much about 2 Thin Mints. If it were me, the sleeve would have been history!popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Well, we have another day to keep ourselves on a healthy path. What do you all say, Lean Meaners? I pledge to do my best today! :woohoo:

Beth

P.S. My new March goal is 5 pounds.....but now that is 7 pounds since the scale was evil yesterday!

Lisa - WTG with the run in the rain! I do the dusting of the collection, and its about a 3 hour job. Hence, its done maybe once a quarter. :rolleyes1

Beth - I knew there was a reason for the 8 in your signature. :) As far as the eating goes, I pretty much have the same problem. I do well during the week when I'm on a schedule. Get to the weekend and then its not so good. Gotta keep at it.

Y'all take care.

:)

If anyone ever wondered if you don't eat for 36 hours you loose 1.5 lbs. I drank a couple of bottles of water so I guess that was real weight loss and not water weight.

I have 20 to 25 lbs it would be nice to loose so maybe after not eating anything but liquids and soft stuff I can get shed of it pretty quick.

When I retired from the Air Force I weighed 155 and was so low of body fat I wasn't on the chart. Now I weigh 181, I was 182.8 before the dental procedure yesterday.

I will have fun trying to eat since my regular stuff ain't happening for a while.

Have a super day y'all.

Healing Panda:hippie:

Shan: Do you mind if I vicariously enjoy the thin mints through you. Feel free to describe them.... (unless that tempts you into more indulgences rather than fond reminiscences).

Stacie: I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions about your knee. I have knee problems myself, but not in that area. I also have "problems" with chocolate, as you know. You described your Hershey miniature mayhem and my first thought was, "Oooh, variety."

Vic: But they're soooo pretty, and I'd practice my revving sound effects. I could do the whole Lights! Motors! Action! show for you. After all, they're toys not collectibles, right?? :lmao: That's what people say about my Disney stash!!

Lisa: Your DD sounds like she's got a future ahead of her as a teacher/coach as well as an athlete? Maybe in gymnastics, maybe in any of her other sports. All I can say is she has a good role model in you. And running in the freezing rain. I think I have a role model too, although it might just be in theory. Brrrrrr!

Beth: I think weekends are hard for many of us, when we're around family & friends and, as you point out, less regimented in our schedules. You've done a great job adjusting for the works schedule. And because you're aware of the weekend eating challenges I just know you'll tackle those just fine, like you do with the miles/minutes. You rock, with the "I'll add on some biking miles" before Pilates! I don't often catch TLC, but I know the type of specials you mean. 35,000 calories a day? How is that possible????

Dave: Hope you're recovering nicely!!! We hope to see you soon.

Bill: I think Bill's hiding from us....:rolleyes1 ;)

As for me: Well, I did the BMR calculations; it looks like 1500 a day for me, although who knows what I'm overestimating/underestimating. I tried to use my SP tracking for food & exercise as a guideline, and the 1500 falls right in the middle of what SP says I should eat, so I think it's pretty accurate. I've been hitting that goal, more or less, so I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing.

I did the Yoga for Dummies DVD this morning. I'm taking that Sunday yoga class, which is good, but I wanted to brush up on the poses & the DVD fits into my schedule. It's pretty good, and reminds me of things I should know about breathing, posture, etc. I really like my instructor for the class, but she's sort of inconsistent about what she explains & when. I think the DVD will help.

Dave, you're back! I must have been writing when you posted. I hope you're feeling all right & not in too much pain. You've got a great attitude about the enforced liquid/soft mush diet. I've been on those a couple of times, and they are effective for the weight loss. For my attitude, that's another story...

You take care of yourself, you hear? We need you round about these parts.

Oooo, I see a party, ready:

We all go to Vic's house. Debra and I can reenact the Lights! Motors! Action show on the floor with the "toys"...

Beth, you are a nurse so you are in charge of the Panda. Make sure he does not fall over into the show or any other "toys in Vic's room.

Shan, you bring the cookies!!!!!

Stacie, you better bring a crying towel for Vic. (but we promise we won't break anything, really we won't).

Maybe this way, we can get Bill out of hiding. Maybe if we promise Guiness with the cookies....:rolleyes1

Okay, I am going back to work now. I think I got a brain freeze from my run!!!!!! :headache:

Healing Panda:hippie:

Dave: I'd like to know where you are hiding those 20-25 pounds, because I sure as heck don't see them! For your height, I would consider 180 pounds to be slim.

Lisa: is that your daughter doing the handstand? :thumbsup2 VERY IMPRESSIVE! :worship: :worship:

OK, who mentioned frozen thin mints? Am I the only one here who is fine until someone else starts talking about bad foods? I will be thinking of frozen thin mints all day. :sad2:

Lisa...It is great your daughter does gymnastics! I did it back in my younger days, but the age range was from young (8ish to mid-teens) and I was about the youngest and smallest (I used to be such a shrimp!). When it came time to learn to...umm...for a lack of techinical terms...Jump off the board onto the horse... I just couldn't do it...too small, so I got frustrated and told my mom and dad I didn't want to do it anymore... but, looking back it was a lot of fun, especially the uneven bars. It is Great exercise!!!! Wow. I didn't mean to write a book! :goodvibes

Yay Dave! Glad you're back. Hope all was successful and you're doing well!

Beth...I feel ya girl! My self-control has been non-existent lately... The weekends are tough!

Debra...Don't you love the dummies DVDs! Pilates for Dummies for me last night!

The knee is better today. I still think I will postpone my run. I'll aquacise toinght and do the aquajogger tomorrow night. I'm not sure how that will compare to running outside, but we'll see. We go to Snowshoe, WV on Thursday. It's pretty much and all-day trip there and back in the car. I assume the have a gym there so I hope to get my LR on Saturday...4 miles on the TM! Then we'll be driving back on Sunday. I'm not skiing...broke my leg last time I tried. I will be a happy observer!

parrrtttaaaayyy! Where's my stack of towels...I'll bring a big one!

Hi Everyone!

I skipped yesterday's workout. DH wanted to go as soon as we got home, and I just couldn't muster myself later in the evening. I was too busy being bored by the Royals. I guess I'm not as fascinated by them as most people. On the bright side, I'm well into Shopoholic and Baby, which is a great hoot.

I am getting my water in! And, I think I might be losing a little. It's too early to tell for sure, but I actually think drinking all this water is helping :drinking:

Let me apologize in advance if I miss anyone. You guys are moving this thread at lightspeed!

Lisa -- Your daughter looks great! My ds10 is also a gymnast. They don't have competitions for the boys down here at his age, but his instructor always makes sure he gets a place in the class, because he's so enthusiastic (they only have one class for boys in his age group, and it can be hard to get a spot). I'm looking forward to his reaction to the Olympics this summer. He was too young the last time to really "get it". :yay:

Debra -- I've always wanted to try yoga, but I never seem to get it together. I bought a video once, and the player ate it (this was years ago). I sort of took that as a sign. Can you recommend a good dvd for a beginner? I think that would be a great crosstraining activity, and a nice break from the bike.

Dave -- So glad to see you back in action! Those liquid diets... my dad was on one for awhile when I was a teenager after he had major dental work. I can't tell you how many meals I made in the blender for him! Ok, I'm sure my memory is faulty. I probably watched my mother make them, 'cause let's face it, I thought the whole thing was pretty yucky. Typical Teen. Anyway, I hope you find some yummy combinations, and we will look forward to seeing your big smile in January! :grouphug:

Vic -- I'm going to try to check in more on the weekends. They're killin' me! :scared1: What a room you have! Now that's devotion!

Beth -- I didn't buy any GS cookies this year for a reason. I cannot eat less than 1 sleeve of Thin Mints. My body/brain thinks that's a serving. It's one of those things I just have to let go. :headache:

Stacie -- No knee advice, but sympathy for the work food. There's candy laying all around. I am surrounded by temptation. I do bring my breakfast and lunch every day and try to only eat what I brought, but some days are easier than others. :guilty:

Shan -- Only eating two Thin Mints should be celebrated! You controlled a snack that has the potential to be a disaster (trust me on this). Great job! :woohoo:

Tracey -- What is up with your weather?! If it's going to be bizarre, I really think you should keep it. Honest, we don't really want any more ice! :cold:

Bill -- Have you stopped crying for Asante Samuel yet? He was one of my faves, and now I'm going to have to cringe when I see him. :sad1: At least Randy Moss is staying, so that's something...

Other Lean Meaners -- :wave2: Hope you're having a great week!

Maria

It's been busy around here.:)
Maria..."Bizarre" is the perfect word for our weather. We got 6 inches of snow today. I'm so ready for spring.
Lisa...Fabulous pic of your daughter.
Dave..Yay, you're back!
Vic...That's an amazing collection. We have a life sized stand up of Jeff Gordon in the basement (he's my 9 year olds fav), that scares me everytime I go down there.
Debra...The boys and I love to go exploring---as long as we don't see snakes!;)
Stacie...Take it easy on the knee and I saw that you're doing the 1/2 in January. Yay! Do you feel as nervous as me?
The boys are off school on a snow day, DH came home feeling ill, and I'm headed to the basement to run. Have a good one all!

Sorry everyone to put thin mints into everyone's minds... :lmao:

Well, I've got only 72 boxes left to deliver from the 354 I started with! :yay:

And today I wasn't quite as good - I ate 4 thin mints. :rolleyes1
Let's see... 150 calories... :sad2:

At least my daughters are eating off all the Samoas - they're 2 for 150 calories compared to 4 for the thin mints.

Hey, anyone use Stevia in their coffee? I am trying to stop using Splenda cause I think it was giving me headaches and messing up my blood sugar. DH and I have been using honey instead, but then today I pulled up calories and I think I'll skip that now...

I was trying to stop my morning coffee, too - it is now the only time I drink caffeine, but I really miss it.

Shan! don't give up that morning coffee!!!! :sad2: Studies have shown that hard exercisers (like those who train for endurance races) burn more fat after having 2 cups of coffee in the morning!!! :upsidedow Yea, I know it's upsidedown from the myths that have been spread in the past! Enjoy your coffee, I have heard Stevia is great, and feel no more guilt about it.....at all!

Shan, my MIL uses Stevia in everything. She was using Splenda but she did the research too and decided to switch over. My FIL had type 2 diabetes so we all have had to make some changes in our sugar content. I don't notice the Stevia in cooking and my FIL does not complain about the coffee switch. He calls it his funny brown sugar. :rotfl:

Vic, Wow! I know my DS will have envy for your collection too. He is definitely a Dale fan, but Jr. He's too young to know much about Sr. That is a lot of dusting that must occur. I'm allergic to dust. Have to hire out that job.

Morning coffee drinker here too here. No sugar, but it must have just a wee bit of cream in it. I usually only have that in the a.m. at least there is progress that way. Good luck if you are drinking during the day too.

Dave, good luck with your new way of eating. Not the way I'd want to lose my 20 pounds.

Beth, you keep at it and your March goal will be made! Sounds like you've got what you need to get done with the weekend thing. I admire you for working on that.

Lisa, congrats to your daughter. We supported our 2 sons through the competitive program here until they turned 16 and had other opportunities. We have a fantastic well-rounded program and our guys learned so much--even had nutrition class as part of the team requirement.

According to calculations, I need to shed about 20 pounds to get back into the "normal" weight range.

It CAN be done! I just wanted to say that I've made it through the day in a healthy eating style. I have no idea how to rinse/repeat so many more days ahead.

One day at a time...

(Sorry that I did not make mention of everyone here. I just cannot seem to manage it. Please don't be offended if I missed you.)

Lisa: I don't know much about form, but it looks like your DD is medal-winning straight up!

Jeanne: I know what you mean. Some days just the mention of my favorite food makes me want to run out for a little extra grocery-shopping, especially if it's a sweet. Thank goodness for frozen grapes. And the fact I don't know any Girl Scouts in my new neighborhood. :rolleyes1

Stacie: I'm going to try the Pilates for Dummies next. I'm more familiar with yoga, so I wanted to try the Dummies series with a workout I felt I could evaluate. I think postponing your run is probably a good idea, just to be safe.

Maria: Whoo hoo for getting your water in! Me, too, although it's a bit of a chug in the evening. I do like the Yoga for Dummies DVD for properly introducing the poses & breathing. She moves a bit slow for my taste, but that's because she's really concentrating on form. I think it would be a good intro because it really does cover the basics & is reassuring in its "yoga isn't competitive" reminders. It takes about 45 minute to do the beginner part of the DVD. I think you'd find its focus on the core & balance good for your training, too.

Shan: I've said it once, I'll say it again. Samoas, mmmmm! Deliver those boxes before I make you send me one--and be sure to remember what you didn't eat!

Connie: About the coffee--really? And me down to two cups a week. Oh, well, now I won't feel anxious about those, except from the caffeine jolt!

Lily: You CAN do it--let each day be your focus, just like you said! :cheer2: And with your focus on making daily healthy choices I'm sure you'll succeed.

Shan! don't give up that morning coffee!!!!

I like that! :thumbsup2

Since monday morning I've lost 3.6 lbs. I drank a bunch of stuff yestersay, a sports bottle of: coffee, V8 juice, muscle milk protien drink and several of water. I had soft scrambled eggs and 2 applesause cups.

I had cravings for popcorn and pizza, that won't happen for a while. I will be ready for a mickey bar by the time ToT comes around.

I stretched when I got up, that is a regular now. Tomorrow I'm heading for the gym for some walking and stretching.

Everyone who has known me for a while knows that I believe that you have to dare to dream. If you want something you have to visualize it and go after it. If you can't see your dream how can you go after it?

My dream is to be a age group world class racewalker. I have to overcome a few things like achillies tendonitis and my dental adventure. But I will keep after it.

There is no shame in not fullfilling your dreams, the shame is in not trying. Whether your goal is weight loss or a marathon or just to be healthy again, if you can look in the mirror and tell that person you see that they are worth the effort, you are half way there.

Have an awesome day y'all
