Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Morning Lean Meaners.....thought I would post before going off to work an extra shift! I hope not to have the hunger monster today! Hope everyone has a good day, and think of me 'slaving' away!:lmao:

Beth

Good morning Lean Meaners. I feel like I get lost on my day off when I don't check in more than once a day. Sometimes this thread moves at lightening speed.

Liz: Welcome to the group. There is a lot of great advice and discussion here. I hope you find the help you are looking for.

Very busy healing Panda: Nests, no nests allowed here. Clean house only. Okay, my kidlets build forts and stuff but no nests.

Shan: I don't think Stevia does affect your blood sugar. Could it have been something else that you ate/drank? I don't like Snapple drinks. Too sweety sweet for me. As your sugar alternatives, honey may have calories in it, but it does not affect blood sugar and it also has vitamins and essential trace minerals that are good for your body. I cook with honey frequently and also use it for my kids cough remedy.

Debra/Connie: I had a French Press but DH broke it trying to be "fancy" and make me some real coffee one morning. As my DD13 would say "stupid boys". I have looked at the stove top espresso maker but have not justified it...yet...you may have talked me into it though. :rolleyes1 BTW, favorite place to get coffee in WDW...Kona Cafe of course. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kona coffee. So bold, so rich, so yummy smelling.....sorry had to go fill my cup again!!!

Beth: I hereby banish thee muchie monster from our friend Beth. Away with you. There :wizard: for a better day with no munchies. Try the snack packs of peanuts or almonds. They work for me in a pinch. I also try to keep a Clif bar in my bag all the time.

All that I missed, sorry, trying to catch up sometimes is a real pain. I will do better...until Saturday... Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa, all I had was my usual oatmeal, glass of water and then the cup of coffee with the Stevia. I felt really whacked two to three hours after breakfast and really did not feel "right' the majority of the day. :confused3

I think I'll go back to the honey.

Good morning everyone. WTO/LTO a little (OK-a lot) lately. I have been checking/reading the various threads, but not posting too much lately. Another couple weeks of crazy kids actvities and then things slow a little on that end. I've been trying to get in some consistent exercise/training, but the eating hasn't been great. I am re-commiting to puttng it all together though as I start my big 10+ months to the WDW marathon weekend finish line push (with a "training" event or two before hopefully). I still don't know for sure what I will be participating in in January 2009, but I am going to train "Big" to get "Little(-er)" .

Am I the only one who lives with a nest maker?

I am going to stay away from this one Dave. I figure it must be a trick question.

Well lookey here, it's Bill....:wave2: I for one have missed you on the boards lately. Just a FYI, I know you are probably not ready but there are a bunch of us Super Goofs doing the Great Bay Half in Newmarket on April 6. Signups open for the Beach to Beacon in Southern Maine on Saturday which is a 10K in August that I would be happy to see you at too. Just a couple upcoming New England races to prod you along!!!! Nice to have you back!! :goodvibes

Hey Lisa. Thank you for the invite/info. Right now I am planning on the Greater Hartford Half Marathon on October 11 and the ToT 13K on October 25 as my two "long" training events. Later in the summer and in the fall/winter I may also do some local 5Ks. Time, and my body's response, will tell.

Morning Lean Meaners

Just finished 9 miles on the bike and figured I'd check in before finishing packing. Leave for WDW at 6p!:cool1: Doing the 5K at Epcot on Sat and hoping my new stretch/massage idea will keep my shin from hurting half way thru. Will do a walk tomorrow around OKW to test it out.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

:yay: for you!!! I'm so jealous. Have a fabulous time! And....have a great run.:yay:

Good morning Lean Meaners!

Another WTO week. We started transitioning to a new radio system, and as usual "Murphy" put his hands into the mix. It's been a couple of long days, bad eating, and no workouts. So much for my new 6-days a week plan. :confused3 :rotfl:

Liz - Have fun!

Beth - Hope you're having fun at work.

Lisa, Tracey, and Shan - Hey!

PatsBill - He lives! :worship: :lmao:

Y'all take care.

:)

Hello lean and mean friends.

I'm a happy camper I officially started back to training again today. The walking felt easy and the achillies didn't bother me.

Have a strong day y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Liz: Welcome!!! We love having lots of people here. And your goals sounds nicely connected. I'm hoping DOOD (my DH) will come to the dark side and agree we need to do ToT. He's almost there, as he's brought it up voluntarily. Have a great time at the Epcot 5K & let us know how things turn out.

Beth: I have the never-ending munchies days myself. I just keep drinking and drinking and drinking (water, not the stuff that will make me forget ALL my troubles and give me new ones). And I'm one of those annoying people to chew ice in such situations. But I don't really know how to deal with those days properly, as the hungries don't go away & I get cranky. So I usually end up snacking after a looonggg day of resistance.

Connie, Liz: Thanks for the suggestions; I'll add them to my list of strategies.

Tracey: Thanks for the heads-up on the challenge. Free swag, not as good as race bling, but still somehow tempting!!

Shan: I'm not sure about the boiling & beneficial stuff, but my friend who's a self-proclaimed tea-making artists says not to let the water boil so as to not destroy the tea's subtle tastes. :confused3

Dave: Wow, you're really on the mend quickly! Excellent news on eating and the training. New furniture for the game room sounds fun, too. Exactly what kind of games do you play in there? popcorn::

Lisa: I'm another Kona coffee lover. It's one of the things I'm really excited about for our April trip to Disney. DOOD made ADRs for breakfast at Ohana on my birthday--because, well, he remembered I'm a member of Team Ohana & thought I'd like my picture taken with Lilo and Stitch. But I'm equally excited about the Kona Coffee that will be part of that visit--it's right there!!!!! Thanks for the tip/confirmation about the honey, too!

Bill: YEA for hearing from you. BOO for WTO/LTO. Love the big/little motto!

Vic: Darn that Murphy and his laws. Can't he keep his hands off your system? Don't worry, though, your 6-day training schedule will be waiting for you once things settle down. (Should I say if?)

As for me: I did go to the movies yesterday. No nuts in the house, and so I broke down & had some peanut M&Ms. I wish I could say I regret it, but I enjoyed each & every one as they melted in my mouth. Much better than the movie. So today I'm going to try to get another quick stroll around the neighborhood--not as punishment or as penance, but just to balance things out a bit.

Debra..Lucky you, going to the movies again. Yum, peanut M&M's--feel no guilt, it's chocoate and nuts---they're good for you, right?
Shan..I buy Gold Peak Tea, it's sold in little bottles at our local grocery store. They have regular, diet, green, and.....oh I can't remember. Anyway, it's wonderful tea and convenient.
All...Have a wonderful day and a fab week-end!

Good morning Lean Meaners. I don't have a lot to say besides hi :wave2: to everyone and a big thank you. I know there has been a lot of thin mints, M & Ms, hunger monsters and the like on this board but your tips and inspiration have FINALLY brought be 1 pound lower. Sometimes I envy those who need to lose more than 5 pounds. It gets so difficult when you hit this point.

My drivers license says 125 (please don't anyone hate me) and I have made myself a promise to hit that weight again. I have been stuck at 130 for over a year. The more I run, the less I eat, the more careful I am what I eat, it just stays the same. This week, I have been 129.5 every day except for 1 and today I weighed in at 129. A whole pound. Not a half and back up and down and up and down but the entire pound. I am so happy I could cry!!! And it is all due to the Lean Mean group and their love and support. I can run on my own but the rest takes input from all of you.

I hope this week and in the weeks to come we can ALL attain our goals no matter what they are. We can achieve great things if we just keep each other on track. Now Debra, about those M & M's, they were DARK chocolate.....right.......

Congrats Lisa! :cool1:

I so know how you feel as I need to lose five pounds and have been stuck - regardless of how much I run or what I eat. Really mind boggling actually!

Sorry about all the Girl Scout cookie talk. :guilty:
The good news is we have now delivered all 354 boxes and my girls have already eaten half of our personal stash. The sooner it is gone the better! :lmao:

Congrats Lisa. Now the tough part ... keeping that pound off. Just remember ... I may lose three pounds just by going to the men's room, but I've got a lot more to lose than you do.

Hey everybody......wow, LTO hit me really bad. I worked extra yesterday, and now I remember why I left the nursing unit! WOW, I was so busy, I hardly got to inhale breakfast, and lunch never happened. I don't know how the nurses do it everyday. I was exhausted when I got home, and I did absolutely nothing last night. I didn't even THINK about exercise. My back hurt so bad from being on my feet the entire day......:scared1: :scared1:

I am still glad I did it....not just for the money (((((which is needed)))), but it is something to keep me humble. I have been a nurse for 20 years, and I have busted my a_ _ in many different areas......but I get a new appreciate the changes in health care, and what nurses are expected to do. It is just unbelievable. I respect my friends even more.

So, my eating wasn't good yesterday. I missed lunch, and ended up eating a dinner of pretzels and cheese. I always indulged my bad day with a bowl of PB Captain Crunch. How bad is that????:scared1:

I moved on today. My day off has been grocery shopping and doing errands. Now I have the laundry mat to go to. :confused3 I am tired already and I haven't run yet. I am hoping to get outside, but it started to rain. I might have to run to the gym for the TM.

Sorry for the whinning......

Lisa:   Yeah for the pound!!!! It's nice to see the scale move!

Bill: How's it going with you? Hope life is winding down for you......the weekend is here!

Beth

Tracey: Yes, everything I put in my mouth is good for me. Especially chocolate! (Okay, maybe it's just good for my soul...) I hope you have a wonderful, frolicking, active weekend with your family!

Lisa: I hate you. :lmao: Just kidding--I know exactly what you mean by those last agonizingly slow loss of those last few pounds. But, really, you deserve all the credit for the loss. (And credit for making me look for my driver's license weight, which apparently the don't list on the PA D.L. My status as an organ donor, however, is quite prominently listed.) We're just along for the celebration!

I have to admit that I didn't have dark chocolate M&Ms as the theater didn't have them; they did carry dark chocolate Raisinets but I chose the chocolate-peanuts combo. I should be ashamed of myself! ;)

Shan: Don't worry about the Girl Scout cookie talk; I find it oddly comforting to know that we all struggle with our sweet/salty/savory/hunger demons. For me, it's almost a relief. For a long time I had the impression that "real" athletes either led a monastic life--eating healthy all the time, never drinking, very controlled. Or they were those genetically strange creatures who ate all the junk food they wanted, drank & smoked in loud bars, burned the candle at both ends, and still ran 7 minute miles and were muscular but thin. Knowing that there are those of us who are real, "normal" athletes (using the term loosely for this group :rotfl2: ) that are working bit by bit, inch by inch, mile by mile, on becoming Lean Meaners (& with all that entails) is inspiring to me. Even on the frustrating days, maybe especially then! :goodvibes

Bill: But we know you can do it! :thumbsup2 Although going to the bathroom too often to do so might just put a crimp in your training, let alone your social life. :rotfl:

Beth: Wow, it sounds like yesterday was like a LR day (except not as rewarding) and today was all about recovery. I think it's really great that your extra shift helped you appreciate your friends all the more. I know it made me appreciate nurses even more, too, and I tend to think of those in the profession as getting the short end of the health-care stick too often. And while it sounds like you had a bad eating day due to your schedule, and that led to exhaustion, you keep on looking ahead--because that's how you'll get ahead. Remember, the TM is better than beating yourself up for not running at all! I know you can do it! :woohoo:

As for me: Grocery shopping today! I picked up the flax seed for Lisa's bread recipe, so guess what I'm doing this weekend? You all know I can't cook but I love to bake, so I excited to try this one out. And there's something about the smell of fresh bread that makes me happy. :cloud9:
I'm also planning on making some banana bread: a loaf to freeze for later & a loaf to share with our landlady who lives below us. You just can't make too much bread, IMO.

:cheer2: Yea, Lisa.:cheer2:
Beth...I love the new Jr. pic in you siggie. He's so cute and that voice...Oh my!

JustSmile: I have to thank my dh for the siggie picture. He is my 'tech' guy for that kind of thing. Big Vic noted my #8 siggie picture, and I realized I had to update it for the 88 car. I like it too! :lovestruc

Debra: I also appreciate the fact that we all face our own 'demons' and are willing to share that with the group. I often thought that other people didn't have the same struggles that I do. I thought everyone had it 'easier' than I did. Through this group, I have learned that we all struggle and we don't have to feel so bad about it.

I got my act together today. I ate well, and did my 5 miles on the TM. At least I feel better about that. :cool1: :cool1:

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Beth
