Yes! I do know and agree that WDW don't have to give discounts at all and I am very happy when they do. However, because this is the smallest AP discount I have ever seen in some years I got a kick how my Sister and her family will make up their money that they had to spend more for the room this May! She had a TON! and I mean a Ton of higher price restraunts booked throughout their 8 day stay. She cancelled most all of them and said they will just eat at the average dining sitdowns and more in the food courts. Where there's a will there's a Way!

While they were smaller, they weren' t that small... What was she expecting??? Half price???

I was hoping for the type of discounts we had last year :sad2:

When I make my reservations I always make it with the AAA rate at a resort that I will be happy with. Then if an AP rate comes out, I will upgrade to a nicer resort depending on what is available and what rates are out. This way regardless of what happens, I will still be getting some kind of discount.

Smaller???

For Deluxes last year, it was a flat $85 of rack rate. This May it is $100.

Value and Moderates are higher. I paid $69.00 per night last year at POFQ!
But that might of been FL residents rates. Which are the same as AP this year :sad2:

This year's May to July AP discounts are definitely much less.

CarolA,
You don't have to be so cruel. Why would anyone say that? She never would expect half off nor would anyone else on this site or else where! I posted that we expect nothing but because of the rooms being higher in price due to a smaller AP discount than in the past, I just thought I would share that showing that there is always a way to cut back and make it work.

I buy the Annual Passport just for the price admission savings: I will have been at least 40days this year on this passport. Since I live 3500miles away, that is quite alot.
It is great getting a discount on the rooms, but I go to Disney even when the discounts do not exist: sure I have to stay offsite (sometimes) because it is cheaper but that is one option.
Just because Mr Eisner got that $585million dollar bonus a couple of years ago does not mean that Disney is making too much (hehehehehehe) on hotel daily rates. I stay in hotels approx 150nights (other than Disney) and the Disney non-discounted rates (for value and Moderates) are the lowest of any hotels I stay.

Supply and demand, folks. Supply and demand. With the advertising blitz that Disney is putting on, lots of newbies are booking at Disney this year. Believe me, that "Less than $1500 for a family of four" at Disney is turning a lot of heads, especially when most people are under the impression that a Disney vacation is financially out of their reach. And when the demand goes up, supply of rooms goes down, and ergo, discounts do not need to be that deep to lure people to the parks.

Also, economy this year is much better than last year. Interest rates are on the rise, job outlook is good overall, more disposable income for folks to travel to places like ... oh, WDW.

Still, I cannot believe how piddly the discounts are for values and moderates. Espeically values. With a AAA discount, your rate would have been $84 per night, so the AP discount was only 5 less than that??? That's not much at all.

Percentage-wise, I think the best deal was at AKL or WL, where the $100 off rack rates got you a standard-view for $139, instead of $239. That's a 42 percent saving! Not too shabby.

Just out of curiosity, I already have a reservation through AAA at AKL with their discount on a MYW package with dining. Do you know if I could get an AP and apply it to that or is it too late? Is it worth it for a 9 night stay?

You could switch to "room only" with the AP rate, but you would not be able to get dining.

Yep, that's what you do. But not all of us do. Some of us buy it for the discounts..and when the discounts don't make it worth buying it for just the admission, changes will be made. The OP was talking about how to cut down expenses, because the AP rate was less than it had been in the past. That's all she was saying...had nothing to do with why she should or shouldn't have bought her AP.

Okay, thanks! We want the dining package more than any discount, plus the package is already paid for, so it's no biggie!

This is my first year with an AP. I like getting a discount; on rooms, dining, other tix; etc... but I would never spend $403 on the Possibility I would get a better than AAA room discount. I understand the op's statement. They were budgetting for a bigger room discount; when that didn't happen, they had to adjust their spending/dining plans. simple. not offensive in the least.
