Just wondering what the beaches are like at Vero and Hilton Head.
Are they nice beaches?
I can't decide on which resort to book at for next March. I have never taken my girls to a beach resort. We have always gone to DW and stayed at SSR or OKW. They are older now and want a beach vacation.......please help me decide!!!!

The beach at Hilton Head is not right outside your door at the resort -- you do have to leave the resort proper to get to the beach. That being said, the beach itself is really nice, sandy not rocky, and very long. You can rent chairs and umbrellas by the day or multiple days, and you can charge it to your room which is convenient.

How old are your girls? We were there in July with DS14 and DD12 and I had no problems with letting DS ride the shuttle from the Beach House back to our villa at the resort by himself when he decided he didn't want to swim anymore and DD and I stayed at the beach.

The Beach House is really nice, but if you're driving your own car, you'll need to get there early to get a spot.

Thanks for the info....my DDs are 14 and 10 and my niece may come who will be 17. Is there enough to do at HHI to keep them occupied?

The beach at HHI is much larger than at VB. Although the HH beach is not right at the resort like VB they have an awesome beach house, with pool, food, and bar. Only Disney guests can access there. Both places have nice beaches, but I like the feel and size of HH's much better.

Be sure to check the temperature history of both places before you decide. HHI is quite a bit north of Vero. We've had lovely stays in Vero in March.

Both places have bike paths. HHI does have more places to bike to, since you can bike to the beach house, and it is a lovely beach.

My DS is 14 and DD is 12 -- they both found plenty to do. There are activities like Teen Night Out, kayaking, etc. Oh, and if you've never been there before, check out one of B'Lou Crabbe's magic shows -- he is one of the treasures of HHI (in my opinion). There are also places nearby for mini-golf and they can always rent bikes and cruise around.

We've been to Hilton Head twice since we bought our points in 2007 -- it's our favorite non-WDW DVC resort.

Hilton Head beaches were great. We brought the bikes with us and would ride to the beach each day...loads of fun!!

March could be quite cool at HH. The water will not be warmed yet. The beach itself is wide and flat, great for walking and biking and sunbathing.

Vero - warmer in March, narrow strip of sand and no where as nice as HH as far as the beach goes.

But - I would go to Vero if I wanted a beach trip in March.

Great point, HH is a crapshoot in March. If you want a better chance at good weather, Vero is it.

Vero would be a better choice in March. It is also close enough to WDW so you could do a split stay at Vero and WDW.

If you weren't going in March, I'd say HHI all the way!!! We love their beach!! It is wet compacted sand that makes riding a bike on the beach a pleasure. It is also a very wide beach so plenty of room to spread out for everyone. And the water has gentle waves perfect for playing or floating. The Disney beach house is wonderful with pool, bar, lunch counter, air conditioned room and plenty of deck chairs.

There is so much to do in the resort and on the island, no one could get bored unless they want too!

We just got back from HHI.. this is our second time there and the beach is wonderful. We went to Vero once as well - beautiful spot.
The difference for us is the beach at HHI is very shallow without a sudden dropoff.. whereas at Vero, there is a dropoff and there can be rip tides. We have young kids so the shallow beach is great.
Not sure what March weather at HHI is like though..

Hilton head is a great place and the resort is very fun. It will not be adult ocean weather but the kid may like it. from another site average temperature:March • Air 67 • Ocean 59 (that is air 19C water 15C)
The beach is wide and flat and you can walk for miles on the beach or rent bikes and ride them.
