What's the smoking situation in South Carolina? We were in North Carolina (Ashville) many years ago and I was disappointed to see that neither laws nor common decency kept people from smoking in restaurants. It was really gross and an experience I'd prefer not to repeat.

Are there any good canoe/kayak trails in the barrier islands in Georgia? Maybe we could mix that with some Okefenokee Swamp paddling. I love swamp camping.

I am not sure about the restaurants on the coast but most of them in upstate SC have no smoking in the restaurants now. Some of the local ones may still allow smoking but not many.

Here is a link to some Kayaking information for Charleston. This Gentleman wrote a book about different places you can Kayak in the area and will even do a guided tour for you. I have not used his service because I leave the outdoors stuff to my husband and sons but I know the man personally and he is passionate about kayaking. He works at The Citadel which is a Military college in Charleston. I hope this helps.
