Hi there,
has anyone done a day trip to the beach while staying at WDW? If so, where did you go and how far did you drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The beach is just 1 hour if you are going to Cocoa. have stayed many time prior to cruises out of PC

I go to Cocoa for the afternoon almost every year -It's nice and very close -

This is farther, granted, but on our last trip we spent a day at Vero Beach. We stopped at the front desk and they gave us a 1 day pass to the ocean and pool, etc. Everyone loved it. We had lunch at the Green Cabin Room with a view of the ocean. My sister-in-law was like a little kid wading in the waves! The pass will get you in to the pool area where they have changing rooms, etc. I think Cocoa Beach is maybe 1/2 way to Vero Beach? Those of you who go to Cocoa Beach - where do you go exactly? I'd love to scout that out on our next trip in February.

For several trips while I was growing up we would go to Cocoa Beach for a night or two then we'd head to the Mouse. I know at least once or twice we drove from Ohio, but IIRC we also flew to MCO and rented a car at the airport at least once. My dad doesn't always like a lot of driving in rental cars, so there is a chance it was only once that we did that! :rotfl: I think ME may have been targeted directly to him; 'course I don't mind it either. ;) Been a while since I did that but it was fun as a kid...

On my honeymoon we got a package deal with a night in Ft. Lauderdale; it was OK but the drive from there to the off property hotel in Orlando {yuck!} was a bit rough (economy car [part of package] = Chevy Aveo = not much fun in my book!) and the beach we were near was disappointing. <FYI, we took a flight down to FFL then flew home from MCO>. Best part of that trip was it convinced my wife that staying on property @ Disney was worth it + after 1 more stay in a value (All-Star Movies) she agreed to us buying into DVC! :thumbsup2

So I take it you did NOT stay @ Vero? How did the pass work; was it free? Were you staying @ a DVC property back in WDW?

If you are a DVC member and staying at WDW on points you can pool-hop to VB. It is about 1.5 hours from WDW.

That's cool, I didn't realize the privilege extended that far! In 2011 we might be traveling with some friends and may rent a car for some of the trip & visit the dark side {I'll admit I'm curious about the Harry Potter land they've building} so that could be another interesting activity to toss in the mix...

Thank you all very much for your comments and suggestions. Will try Cocoa and VB. Staying at VB for a night or two sounds great after a few fun filled days at WDW. I heard the waves there were rather rough, but perhaps that depends on the time of the year.

This pool hoping to VB is the best news. We were planning on a night at VB to take the kids to a Florida beach. Now we can make it a day trip. We've been to VB without the kids and love it. This is so great. Thanks you so much.

Yes - 1/2 of us were staying at SSR, and 1/2 of us were staying at AKV. So they gave us 2 passes. (7 of us total) No charge, except for lunch of course.

I called first, and was glad that I did because they do have black out dates sometimes.

We have also 'pool hopped' to Vero while staying in WDW. My only suggestion would be to call ahead. Make sure you actually get the front desk and not the generic central info line.

One time when we went there was some confusion at the Vero front desk as to whether or not this was allowed. It all went fine eventually but we have called ahead each other time to ensure no problems.
