I know there have been discussions about dvc and taxes but not sure where the threads went. I am trying to deal with taxes by myself this year, as my husband passed away last April, so a bit stressful to say the least. I just need to know if there is anything with DVC and the purchase of that comes into play when doing my taxes? Anything I can use a write-off or things of that nature?

Thank you in advance from a very stressed mommy and now a new widow. You never know how much things will change....but that is another story!

You can write off the property tax portion of the dues.

You can write off the mortgage interest under certain circumstances - it must be secured by real estate (so if you took out a loan from Disney or a home equity loan), as I recall, you can only write off interest on two residences (primary and one vacation home), there are some other restrictions as well and you should consult your own tax advisor or look up the information for yourself or call the IRS (you get what you pay for with anonymous tax advice over the internet).

I'm sorry about your loss.

You should have received a statement in January for your annual membership fees. In there, it separates out your property taxes for 2008. That's what you can deduct as property taxes. I don't know about the mortgage part, because I didn't finance my purchase.

So sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Hopefully Disney will continue to be a place where you can go to relive happy memories! Best of luck to you and your girls!:grouphug:
