BCV washer / dryer - didn't clean well for me

We had a studio last trip - Thanksgiving, and so had to do laundry at BCV. I thought the new "energy" efficient machines did a poor job of washing my clothes, so am having to redo them at home to get the stains out.

I used same laundry soap as home - All liquid....

ANyone else have trouble with the newfangles washers?

though these things were surpose to clean BETTER not worst.

Spiceycat is correct. You should tell them about the problem. There is probably a problem with the washers.

If you used the same soap that you did at home, that might be part of the problem. High Efficiency (HE) washers require HE soap. Using regular soap can cause over foaming and actually prevent it from washing out or cleaning well.

Yep, found that out myself, DW was out of town visiting her mother for a week so I tried to do the laundry. We were out of detergent I thought so I ran to the store and just bought the regular stuf and used it. DW called one night and I mentioned her new washer was not getting the clothes clean at all, (I had run three loads three differant times) only to have her laugh and then tell me to use the HE type.

I've never heard of "High Efficiency" laundry soap.

Can someone please tell me more about it? Does it actually say "High Efficiency" right on the bottle? And who makes it...All? Tide?

Many of the Brands carry it. It will say HE on the bottle in larger letters. It is usually on the top or bottom shelf at the stores I go too.

We're staying in a 2 BR next month. I know Mousekeeping will leave us laudry detergent. Does anyone know if it is the "High Efficiency" kind?

At the moment the 2 bedrooms do not have HE washers, only the member washers that studio folks can use.

I love my HE washer, but if you have stains you need to pre-treat with any sort of washer. If you read the manual they will tell you that.

If you find an HE washer and you have regular detergent, just use 1/2 the amount stated. Whirlpool told me this was okay, since I had a almost full bottle of regular Tide when I got it. Once I ran through that I switched to Tide HE(they even make it in the fragrance free stuff).

I can tell you from experience Tide does have it. I went grocery shopping the other day and my wife asked me why I bought laundry detergent for a front load washer which was labeled as high efficiency...........it was news to me.

That is the important key to the puzzle. You need less of it over regular because of the sudsing formula.

I would not use less regular detergent on a daily basis at all as you more than likely are going to have serious issues with your expensive HE machine one day. You can find lots of info on the Internet about this - at the beginning when HE machines first came out, salespeople told customers they could use regular detergent, but just use half the amount. This has since been proven to be incorrect as it is not only the amount of detergent that is important, but most especially, it is the type of detergent that is used. HE detergent and regular are the same price, so just get the right stuff, and you are good to go!

I used the rest of the bottle and switched to HE. Didn't have a problem with the washer and I probably used most of a regular size bottle.

No problems and I"ve had it about 3yrs+ now.

Whirlpool told me that not all washers will react badly to regular detergent, but they might, and that is what is at issue. If they do, and the repairperson can see that you weren't using HE detergent, they told me that this could cause warranty issues. Not sure of the legalities of this, but since my washer is so expensive, I wouldn't want to chance it.

We have had great luck with Whirlpool appliances, as it sounds like you have!

Had I a traditional (old Style) machine, they would have come out fine.

So I'm redoing here at home, and guess what, they new plumbing leaks... so now am mopping up the floor here....

I'm going to BCV in a few days... and I'll mention to the front desk that I didn't have good experience with the laundry..

BUt I'm just wondering if the new HE machines just cost more, but don't actually clean very well....?

I see in the responses above me one of the members loves her HE machines. So maybe it's just the BCV's need the better detergent.

I'll run out and get some HE..... Too bad they don't sell it onsite, if that's the better stuff to use. Would probably be less wear and tear on their machines if they did that.

You really need to try the new Shout. It works great on set in stains(like stuff I've missed the first time).

I love my HE machine too, killer job on the whites. Great for my huge king size bed sheets too.
