BCV Trash in the hallways, what do you do?

I have been to many non-Disney timeshares and suite-style hotels where the only thing that you can do is leave your trash outside your door. The trash rooms were locked.
This is especially fun with dirty diapers!
My family gets sick of me saying "This doesn't happen at Disney."

While I don't find it excusable, I can see where DVC is not like the other Deluxe resorts. We do generate more trash than a regular hotel room.

Having an entire kitchen inevitably creates more garbage. And not having that garbage picked up for several days at a time means there's more of it to deal with by Mousekeeping.

Trying to understand their thinking, it may be "policy" to leave the bags outside the room because there will likely be too much trash for them to handle with the small carts. It sounds like they have a runner go through and collect, or there's supposed to be a runner going through and collecting. Maybe he/she needs to run faster! ;)

When we were at BCV's in August, my BIL's were told to leave the trash outside the door by a housekeeper.
I told DBIL that the trash room was right down the hall, so for the rest of the trip he tossed it out. I made sure everyone in our group knew that it was a big pet peeve for a lot of people.

We do the same thing. Since its my "home" I just carry out my trash myself.

Just throw away your own trash, are people that lazy?
I think the resorts make it easy for you, if housekeeping gets to it before me then so be it, if they were leaving my trash in the hall I'd pick it up and throw it away, maybe they get the hint.

It's right down the hall, and I'm a Renter.

I don't mind taking trash to the trash room, but I do mind the trash bags in the hall. Ick! If it is Disney being cheap and only picking up housekeeping trash once a day, I am also happy (I would count it towards my cardio of the day!) to take it to the front desk, the BC resort entrance or the gates at Epcot (I bet the problem would go away if we all did that ;) )

I dont like the trash bags in the hall and I like the room service trays full of half eaten food and dirty dishes even less. I have seen these trays left out for hours!

I too noticed trash in the hall at BCV last July. I wondered, is it allowed to go to the trash room and toss your own trash or is the door usually locked? I would love to be able to toss our extra garbage away instead of having it pile up in our unit. When we were at OKW, with 8 of us, we made a lot of trash, but we couldn't find anywhere to throw it away; figuring that they would rather have mousekeeping do it. Obviously, they cant put dumpsters in the lots (yuck, smell, rodents, etc) but maybe if they made the garbage room more accessible (ie let me know where it is.) I wouldn't mind at all tossing my own garbage...even on vacation just to get it out of our unit.

Since it's a vacation home, and maid service is not provided, I was under the assumption that it is expected that we dump our own trash. At BCV, the dumpster is in a small room down by the elevators. At OKW the dumpsters are in a closet by the stairwell. A quick call to the front desk can also help you find it.

I am a compusive tidier and am always taking trash for disposal. I have never found a trash room to be locked, neither at BCV, VWL, nor OKW. If it's locked you may be trying the wrong door. At OKW, there are two or three doors in the central area outside, under the stairs of each building. One is trash (usually the one that faces the building). One is housekeeping supplies -- you can find the ladies here and ask for extra tissue, etc. I think the 3rd is some kind of electrical or maintenance. At VWL the trash room was near the stairwell. We just took out the trash each morning on our way down to the elevators. No big deal and it keeps the halls nice.

I noticed this problem when we were just guests in the BWV Grand Villa from Dec 28-Jan 2nd. At first, I thought it was rude guests, and I remember giving a couple of glaring looks as I saw people leaving their rooms with their trash outside their door! I also noticed room service trays in the hall. It's like an obstacle course to return to your room mid-day! In the 7 years we have been members, I never remember seeing this before. If it's a new policy, then it's not a good one......

Just got a call from the executive Offices regarding the trash in the hallways....

Bottom line is that they are unaware it was happening and are planning on looking into it....I mentioned that it happened both weeks i was there and was not a one time thing...

Michelle from the Executive Offices was very nice....but concerned that this was going on...

We stayed there 1/18-1/23 and I never saw trash in the hallways. Did see a couple of room service trays though.......

Stayed at BCV from 1/18 to 1/30. I saw a total of 2 garbage bags in the hallways during my entire stay and they were there when the Mousekeeping staff was in the hallways, so I'm assuming they were going to pick it up in a bit.

Just thought I would mention that I stayed at BC--NOT the villas--over Christmas, and the trash was handled the same way. While I do not condone handling the trash this way, to say that we are being treated differently--not as well--because we are DVC members is wrong. The problem is that we are not treated any better:p

My stay was at the BWV not at BCV just wanted to point that out..

Saw some trash, room service and even piles of towels outside of people's doors both at BCV and BWV - very very ugly. Some of the stuff was outside of rooms with do not disturb signs on them - seems like perhaps these people expected to be waited on hand and foot perhaps.

Our GV at BWV had the prior guests room service and dirty blender set outside even as late as 5:30pm

Not a good situation at all

thanks

We stayed at VWL in October. We took our trash down to the trash room. It had one container for trash that was full most of the time.

I think it would help if they told people checking in to any villas where the trash room is located.

After having room service we always call for tray pick up-they even put a little card on your tray asking you to do so at VB. We are always told to put it in the hallway.

I have seen housekeeping walk right past trash in the hallways and not pick it up and then I see the bag sitting there hours later.

Some guests that leave things out in the hall may be paying cash and possibly are being told to do this by housekeeping.

Prior to purchasing DVC- we stayed for many years at Tropical Palms in Kissimmee that also only had housekeeping upon request (but they didn't charge for it:rolleyes: )

Anyway, upon checking in to your cottage you were told where dumpsters were located and that if you needed to exchange towels to bring them to a designated desk.

I often think DVC should do the same thing- keep housekeeping for those scheduled days when a full cleaning is warranted and then give specific instructions to guests (both members and cash paying) of where to take your trash and set up a designated towel exchange area. Of course they would have to provide adequate sized trash recepticles, but it seems to me that most people would be more willing to take their trash to a designated room than have it sit in the hallway.
