We're crazy....but we LOVE Disney & BCV.....and we only have so many points......so we're staying in a studio for 2 weeks!!

DH, myself, DS 15 and DD 13 will be trying to save a little money by eating 2 meals a day in the room. We usually plan on a light breakfast and a meal of sandwiches each day with one meal out.

My question is....what should I take with me to stock the kitchen? I understand there are only 4 paper plates...so I'll be bringing our plastic Mickey plates from home. I may want to use the microwave to heat stuff....are there microwave containers?
How about a can opener?

Any suggestions on what to pack in my "kitchen box?" We will be driving in the mini-van, so I'll have plenty of room, but I don't want to take too much....

Thanks for any help!

There is a can opener, but I dont recall any microwave containers.

There isn't a dishwasher in the studio, so unless you want to be hand washing those plastic mickey plates, I would bring paper plates & bowls and just toss them after the meal!

don't forget your clothes detergent and fabric softenor - or what ever you use - there is not a washer and dryer in your room - but you have access to the laundry at BCV and the washer and dryer are free there.

I generally cook before I leave and freeze the stuff in mircowave containers - then we carry a cooler in the car - all DVC resorts have lots of ice and the freezer is so small that it is necessary for us to have a ice chest too.

there are several grocery stores fairly close to BCV - you need to leave WDW property for the better bargins

Nope, no microwave containers

Also the fridge is half-size with a small freezer component

Thanks

Having just stayed in a studio once again, here's what I did:

* I bought some Gladware containers. I could both cook and store in them. They also came in handy if I wanted to take certain items "out" to lunch at the beach (VB).

* You only get 4 paper bowls, 4 paper plates, 4 foam cups, 4 paper cups and 4 sets of plastic utensils to start. Bringing or buying some of your own is a smart idea. You can use the paper towels for napkins or grab some at a snack stand somewhere.

* You get a starter pack of coffee plus a few tea bags, creamer in bags, sugar and sweetener. Buy extra supplies on your own such as coffee, sugar, creamer and filters (for a regular sized coffee maker). You could grab sugar packets at a snack stand also.

* You will get a sponge, dishwashing liquid and paper towels. No need for extras. The sink and counter is small so washing a lot of dishes/glasses is difficult.

* Bring salt and pepper and any extra spices you might enjoy.

* Bring an assortment of plastic Ziploc bags. These come in handy for all sorts of things.

* You get a can opener (hand crank) and a wine corkscrew.

Food:

* The fridge is a small one so don't go overboard on your first shopping trip. The door will hold yogurt sized containers up top and quart to 2L soda bottles (snuggly) on the bottom. The freezer is very small but will hold 2 regular frozen dinners plus 4 Uncle Ben's Breakfast Bowls, for example.

* The microwave is small also so check its size before determining what you can purchase to cook/heat in it.

* You can cook things like Pasta Roni in the microwave (in those Gladware containers). Add some precooked chicken pieces or tuna and you have a nice, quick meal.

* Watch the salad in the fridge. Mine always seems to freeze in those small ones.

If you don't want to bring extra paper plates, cups, utensils, can you ask for more from housekeeping without charge?

no you have to buy them -but you can ask housekeeping - but first look what is in the studio - my last couple of visit - there were a bunch of plates, bowls - even some extra plastic ware - the housekeeping use to throw out anything left - now they seem to add to it - so if you got luck and the people before you didn't touch theirs - then you will have more than enough...

but look before you buy anymore (if that is a option - if you are going to buy at a grocery stop using a towncar on the way in - it probably isn't)

This is all true.

When I was at VB three weeks ago they left a price list for extra items you may request during your stay (like plates, cups, laundry detergent, Mickey soaps, etc.). Initial items and those left during trash and tidy days are at no charge. The list also said something like "Members have chosen to purchase these items as needed instead of increasing dues ...". It's cheaper to buy your own supplies.

During my trash and tidy day I received an extra supply of plates, cups and utensils (4 each) for free but no extra soaps. I left behind most of the new plates and cups so the next person in had a nice starting supply.
