Thinking about planning a trip in early November and wanted to try either the BC or YC. I'm not quite sure I get it. Are they part of the same hotel?? Are they next to each other? Which one is better?? We would probably go with standard view. We are a family of 4. DD (13) and DS (11) and have stayed at the AKL (loved this place!!) and CBR. Which do you think is better for us?? Thanks for the info!!

Different decor - YC is more nautical, BC is pastel and beachy.
YC has all full balconies, BC has some half balconies
BC is closer to the entrance to Epcot

We are booked for BC in August, never been. DH saw it at his last Swan/Dolphin conference and wanted to stay there. These are the differences I've come up with from asking the same questions myself. Also some say YC is more quiet and sedate and more families tend to gravitate to BC. Don't know if this is true or not. Our friends tried BC last October and loved it.

We have stayed at both resorts (4 children), although we love both I feel that Kids enjoy BC more. It has a less formal atmosphere, closer to Beaches and Cream and Stormalong Bay. Either resort is great I'm sure you'll be happy.

Thanks for your replies. Are BC & YC right next to each other? Does YC hotel guests have BC pool priviledges or do they just share the big pool? What are half balconies?? I just thought all balconies are the same; 2 chairs and maybe a little table??

Kathy - both YC and BC use Stormalong Bay.

Some of the BC rooms have a balcony that is half sized, I'm not sure about the details, but I'm assuming you can just stand on it. Maybe someone with more experience will answer your questions.

YC&BC are sister resorts, next to each other & sort of attached by Beaches & Cream, the arcade & the health club. The YC rooms have standard balconies w/table & 2 chairs, however, quite a few of the BC rooms have "standing only" balconies; two people could probably stand on it to check the view, that's about it. We're DVC members & have stayed @ BCV, but usually stayed at YC before joining DVC. We all love SB, but prefer the atmosphere of YC over BC, and this includes my DS, age 6. We've never considered it "stuffy", just elegant. The CM's were always great and "child friendly". Even though we now stay DVC, my little guy still asks when we're going to stay @ YC again!

JKLLady, thanks for the info. Both resorts sounds wonderful.
I think we would go with the YC.
As silly as it sounds, the balconies are important to my DH and me. After the kids fall asleep, you can't even talk in the room w/o waking everyone up. Its nice to be able to go out on the balcony and have some private time. I think I would go with the YC especially for that reason, unless you can get a standard room at BC with a full balcony. Does anyone know if thats available??

Thanks!!

Another DVC member here that used to stay at YC and loved it.

The BC is also beautiful and has many pluses, but we loved the full balconies of the YC, all the warmth of the natural woods and the Nautical theme.

We have two little girls who LOVE the YC but also really enjoy the DVC rooms at BCV. Stormalong Bay is our favorite Resort pool and we always keep a day or two just as pool days. We found the resort very kid friendly, and always had a wonderful time.

One other YC perk is that the pier for the boat to Epcot/MGM is directly in front of the YC. It is a bit more of a walk to get there from the BC. (Just as Epcot is a bit longer walk from the YC)

As to the 'step out' balconies at the BC, I've included a picture. While you can request a full balcony, there are no guarantees.

Whichever you choose, your family will have a wonderful time!

IMHO, given the time you're going, I think you'll be able to get a full balcony at BC. We stayed there in late October 2001, sent a fax about a week in advance, and got a lovely room with a full balcony that even looked out over the volleyball court and in the distance, the Boardwalk.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news BUT the YC does have a FEW (very few) (but still there) with the stand only balcony rooms too.

I definately feel a difference between the "tempo" of each side of the resort. from the cm's to the guest. We definately prefer the BC. It is more laid back, vacation feel to it. The YC is more formal, and proper. Yes, there are still families & kids, just we felt like you should be dressed better, or felt out of place. (maybe its just us). Where as the BC go ahead and walk through in your shorts and park attire! Everyone else is! ;) I would almost put the YC up there 1 notch below the GF if its feel.

The pool situation is the same, both have a quiet pool and hot spa on each side of the resort and then share the large "stormalong bay".

Have a great trip, we have stayed at both sides twice for 2 week stays each time, and enjoyed it, but have had a few problems with YC rooms, I would NOT pay extra for a Waterview, however, (at the yc). The BC we have never had a problem with and our last trip was last august, we are returning this august but to a 1br villa in the BCV! (we are not DVC). So very interested in this adventure!

Hi Mkymouse4ever

You will love the BCV. That one bedroom unit is the best, and makes for SUCH a nice comfortable vacation. The full kitchen and Washer/Dryer come is VERY handy, and the Jacuzzi tub is the BEST after spending the day walking all over the 'world'!

I have a virtual tour of our BCV one bedroom unit from last year, if you are interested:

As to the BC/YC issues, I think it really is just a personal thing. We never felt bad about walking through the lobby in bathing suits, much less worrying about park attire! :)

Its a resort with a mini-waterpark outside! I think it must just be those opulent surroundings that make you feel the need to be dressed up! We've also stayed at the GF and have never felt out of place there either. The staff at both were very friendly and wonderful with the kids (4 & 6). The staff at the front desk/restaurants/store were great, and were always saying hi and giving the girls stickers.

As to water views, we had a fantastic Waterview room there our last visit:

I know this one was extra special, but good ones do exist! :) We could see the Boardwalk and watched Illuminations nightly! We could even see some fireworks from MGM.

Thanks Targrel for the picture of the balcony.....now I get it!! I definately wouldn't be happy with a "1/2" balcony at a deluxe resort. Like I said before, my husband and I need a little private time away from the kids!!

Thanks everyone else for your replies....I have a good idea of the differences and am ready to make my decision!:D
