My bf says he wants to stay at the Polynesian on our next trip, probably spring '06. I told him he had better start saving his pennies :rotfl:

Anyways, I've seen pics of the rehabbed rooms- but did the bathrooms change at all? I haven't seen anyone mention them. Do they have double sinks/did the layout change at all? Or is it just a different colored decor? I kind of preferred the pastel colors of the rooms before the rehab, but I love the location and pool of the Polynesian.

The layout didn't change at all. For the most part, the decor in the bathrooms is the same as well. The marble of the floors, bath and vanity are the same. I can't remember if the wallpaper is different. :confused3 How bad is that?

But there are some nice modifications. There are two cubbyholes beneath the sink for vanity kits, makeup, etc.. There is also a new shelf along the top of sink in the same (almost) green marble.

The shower head is an oversized one now and the shower rod is a bow style.

I've stayed at the Poly twice. Once in Rarotonga, two weeks ago in Hawaii.

The bathrooms a bigger then the other resorts, there is 1 sink and it's in the bathroom.

The bathroom in marble, the shower head is very low and if your a tall person this could be an issue.

Sink and tub-shower are in the front, small divider between this room and the toilet. The Hawaii building sink has a good size shelf and cubes under the sink, I don't remember the Rarotonga having these cubes under the sink just the sink shelf.

I don't know what the value resort bathrooms are like. I've have stayed at the moderates, with there 2 sinks outside the bath area, and do remember how very small the bathroom was, I know my DH is 6'3" and he complained about the bathroom at the moderates all the time.

Mamu, the cubbies under the sink are new in Hawaii as is the shelf. Before the shelfs were just corner ones. I believe these are being added to all the longhouses as they get the new decor.

Yes, there is new wallpaper in the redecorated bathrooms. Just got back a couple days ago and I can't believe I didn't take any pictures of the bathroom. lol

All the layouts of the bathrooms are the same as they were. I don’t know if the new Handicap Accessible rooms in Hawaii have any added features but other than the look and the items mentioned above there are no significant changes. The cubby holes added to the bathrooms are so far only in the bathrooms with single sinks. The rooms I saw with the double sinks (Rapa Nui) did not have any cubby holes below them but they did have the added shelf above the sink.

There are photos on my web page http://www.tikiman2001.homestead.com/rooms.html

Stephanie,

Where did you stay when you just went?

Aloha

We just got back from AKL- which we love- but my bf said he missed being so close to the Magic Kingdom. We walked around the Polynesian to see the Boutiki, which is nice.

I guess if I had read your signature I would have known where you stayed.

I think if they had put AKL on the monorail around the lagoon or even over past the WL on Bay Lake it would have been one of the best resorts at WDW. Do you think if they had done that it would have changed the feel of the AKL resort too much? Hope you had a great time.

Aloha

in the pictures on your site they show coffee makers, do all rooms at the Polynesian have them now, or do we have to ask for one?
THANKS :teeth:

and sorry for the off shoot.

I would have to say that they all do have them because this past summer we were in the Hawaii building BEFORE the remodel and there was a coffee maker and supplies on the table in front of the sliding glass doors, and just last week we were in the remodeled rooms (still the Hawaii building) and the coffee makers were there, but over on the counter between the 2 closets, above where the new fridge is :)

Tikiman,

Your photos are awesome. Thanks so much. We have just decided to stay in the Polynesian for the 1st time on our next trip which will be next summer, either June or July. We are taking my Mom with us - it will be her first time ever at WDW. Anyway, do you think we will have a good chance of getting one of the new rooms. You seem like you would be someone who might know. Thanks.

Just back from a trip at Poly. The bathrooms have one sink but it seemed to be fine for us having five people. My only complaint about the shower was that the shower head was very low, to wash your hair was a pain in the @$$. The new tv's are awesome. I would try to stay in Fiji; it is very nice and close to everything. enjoy your stay

If they get back on schedule there should be a good chance of getting a new room. They were planning on having them all done by summer 2006.

I just got back from the Poly. I didn't see any evidence of rennovations ongoing at this time. I stayed in Tahiti 3rd floor lagoon view, in a pre-rennovated room. The only thing I missed from the new room is that wonderful leasure chair/ottoman. I didn't need the extra outlets, didn't watch tv and didn't miss the mini fridge.

It's possible that they're slowing their rennovations because of higher-than-normal occupancy, due to Wilma.

Steve, I did a split stay at the Poly and AKL during my last trip. The remote location of AKL was a disappointment and inconvenience. I agree that the resort itself is magnificent, but the location detracts from the Disney experience and I will not stay there again. I probably would have felt differently had the AKL been more centrally located. As for the Poly, I liked everything about it and am eager to return.

I just got back from the Poly yesterday. We had two connecting rooms in Tahiti and both rooms had bathrooms with double sinks. Overall the rooms were wonderful and looked newly decorated. We just loved the location of Tahiti since it was just a short walk to the TTC where we could take the monorail to both the MK and Epcot.

Mousekeeping on the other hand wasn't so good - but still a magical stay! :earsgirl:
