Bathroom Remodel: Vanity or Pedestal sink?

Remodeling our bathroom, and we're thinking of switching out the cabinet vanity for a pedestal sink. We have a large bathroom closet, so no storage issues, but just curious if anyone put in a pedestal and later regretted it for any reason??

TIA!
Sammy

I love the way a pedestal sink looks if you have plenty of other storage. I also like a vanity with a vessel sink.

Had a cabinet, switched to pedestal, and went back to cabinet. I, too, like the counter space.

I have both. I have 3.5 baths. The 1/2 bath is the one with the pedestal sink. Love it. My bedroom baths all have cabinet sinks with tons of storage. This bath is on my first floor for company to use when they stop by. :goodvibes

if its a 1/2 bath then pedestal, wouldnt want pedestal in master - as others have said, like the coutner space

We just replaced a pedestal sink with a vanity, mainly because of the storage issue, but also because we needed more room around the sink. Even if you use combs, hairdryers, spray, etc. and immediately put them away, it is still nice to be able to put those things down on the counter for a minute when you are using them. There was never any room to do that with the pedestal sink.

Depends on the use. If its a half bath , a pedestal is great. For the master or the kid bath, vanity for sure. Couldn't handle not having counterspace.

Unless it is a half bath I would not do a pedestal. I NEED COUNTER SPACE.;) I have had a pedestal before in a half bath and while it looks cool, it really was not useful.

In this house I have my own HUGE counter space in my master bath. I love it soooo much.

Another vote for counter space! I like my stuff and I like to have it handy. :)

We have what is sort of a mixture of the two...

It really takes up no more room than a pedestal, but we have someplace to put our toothbrush and toothpaste, butt wipes, etc., out of site! :rotfl: ;)

Everyone loves it!

Ooh! I love the style and color of this!

OP - in our old house, we had a cabinet that we switched to a pedestal in our 1/2 bath and it really made the room look better/larger. We currently have a pedestal in our 1/2 bath in this house and I love it, and have no plans to change it. In both cases, the bathroom in question was/is on the first floor and is not used for brushing teeth, doing hair, etc so it works just fine. As far as storage, we have a step stool that has storage in the top step where we keep extra hand towels and a cannister hidden back in the corner behind the toilet for extra TP. Cleaning supplies are in the laundry room

I have the same sink!!! I designed the whole bathroom around it b/c I saw it and loved it. It's on the main floor of the house and noone uses that bathroom to get ready, we use the upstairs bathroom with a vanity.

We have redone two baths in our house. One has a pedestal... Love the look but it is a pain if you are putting on makeup, doing hair etc. The other bathroom has a vanity. Much better for our main bathroom where we get ready in the am.

I guess if this is your primary bathroom I would go vanity. If it's a "powder room" then pedestals look great.

PS I found having the two pedestals at POFQ sooooo annoying. There was not enough space for our stuff and they were so low I had to keep dragging my 2 1/2 year old away from playing with them.

We have a really wide pedastal and it has plenty of space for soaps, toothbrushes, setting down a curling iron. I like the clean line.

You could go with the trendy European thing: a wall-hung vanity:

I'm planning on putting on of these in our basement bathroom. We have an issue with the floor not always staying dry, so we need to get the vanity off the floor, but we also need storage space. Ready-made versions are horribly expensive in the US, but we're plotting to do the trick by having the "box" made by a carpenter.

We have a pedestal sink because our bathroom is teeny. I hate it :( I want a vanity sink so I can put my toothbrushes and soap and stuff there; we have a linen closet right next to the bathroom, but it's OUT of the bathroom so it's kinda inconvenient. I'd love a place to put extra rolls of TP! ;)
