Bathing suits and resort pools

My family is in good shape - but since I have reached the nice age of 50 (me DW) I have a bit of a belly (looks like 2 months pregnant) and size DD on top.
I do were very modest bathing suits from Lands End (size 16) - which covers all areas. (I am not pregnant, not at my age)

I am most comfortable wearing a large t-shirt over my bathing suit in public area's.

Does anyone wear a t-shirt over their bathing suit in the pool ?

What should I do at the resorts pools ?

I wil still try to loose a few pounds - but so far nothing has worked for me.
I am a terrible dieter.

Don't worry about it. There are people of all shapes and sizes at the pools. I have seen people wear T shirts over their shirts if that makes you more comfortable.

I myself am quite Pooh-sized. I hate wearing a bathing suit in public. But I considered these facts:

* my DH and kids already know what I look like, and do not care.
* I don't know anyone at WDW, and will never see them again.
* I spent too much money on my trip to be uncomfortable in the pool.

I made up my mind not to care what others thought, and honestly... I doubt they even thought of me at all. I can't honestly tell you that anyone on any of my vacations was too fat to be in public in a swimsuit, although I am sure there were others of us there! Just enjoy your vacation, and to heck with what anyone else thinks of you and your swimsuit!

I look back at our past trips to WDW and cannot believe how my body has changed in 3 years. I guess it's part of getting old. (I even color my hair now ! I never did before)

My DH does not seem to mind.
Even my skinny teenage DD does not mind me in my bathing suit in our home pool (as long as her other skinny bikini wearing friends are not around).

Maybe I will take the t-shirt off to go into the water. It's less noticable in the pool water. Then I can put the t-shirt (not a white one - no contests here) back on when I sit down to dry off.

The only time I feel totally comfortable in a bathingsuit is when I'm on vacation. I don't know anyone there and when you look around you will see a whole lot of women wearing things that they really shouldn't. I guess they feel more comfortable too.

BTW, I'm a size 14 and last year I bought a really great suit that is a two piece but the bottom is like a skort and the top is tankini style that goes down to cover the waitband.

I often wear a t-shirt over my bathing suit- besides the aesthetic reasons, it helps keep the sun off.

No matter what size I or any of my family have been, there has always been someone larger at every Disney resort we've visited. I would be more concerned with whether the chlorinated pool water will adversely affect your colored hair than how you look in a swimsuit. Bright orange or green hair will attract a lot more attention in the long run. One thing we've found that helps is to get your hair wet in the room shower before going down to the pool (or use a pool-side shower if available). This helps keep the hair from absorbing as much chlorine. Then wash your hair as soon as you return to the room after your pool visit.

If you think you will feel self conscious sitting by the pool, invest in a cute cover up. It will be easier to put on after swimming than a t-shirt will be, and there are lots of people wearing swimsuit cover ups as they go to and from the pool. I like terry cloth cover ups myself, because they assist in the drying off process.

I have a rule of thumb about bathing suits. If I am somewhere where I will never see these people again I pull on the suit and get in! We have a beautiful lake here in town but I won't get in my suit and swim here. An the other posters are right there are all shapes and sizes of people at WDW. Have a great time

I have to get in the pools with my kids(ages 3,5, and 12) and I sometimes wear shorts over a one piece bathing suit(athletic type wind shorts, not denim) because I always have to end up on a water slide with them. My DH refuses to go in the summer time so I am the only able bodied parent on the trip. Anyway, you might also try a pair of shorts that would work with your swimsuit. I know that I have seen actual womens swim shorts, but I just go with what fits best. Sometimes I will buy a size or two larger than I need so I can roll the elastic waistline on the shorts down to my liking to drop the overall look of my waistline down. Shirts are great too and protect your shoulders from getting sunburned. You don't need to worry about a thing. It's Disney and most people are there to just have fun with their families. I have never noticed adults wearing anything too skimpy at the resort pools. It will be okay Just go and enjoy yourself!

I just returned from 7 nights at CSR where I celebrated my 50th birthday with my dh and teen son and daughter. For the first time ever I swam with the family without worrying about the size (18) of my swimsuit or what anyone there might think of it. Everyone is too busy enjoying themselves to notice the size and shape of other vacationers or what they are wearing. Once I stopped worry about what others thought I felt fantastic. I can't remember when I have enjoyed myself more! I even went down the slide several times. Relax, have fun, and don't for one minute worry that anyone is taking notice of your size. If they are, they must be having a pretty miserable time.

Don't worry about it. I too was worried since I haven't lost my baby weight and my baby is 2!!!!!!

But let me asure you .....you will see it all. Just remember everyone is there to have a good time with their families. Your family and your bodies are not (hopfully) their first priority!!!!

I was worried too and I called my mom back home and she was like "Marleeka you just had a baby! You're not going to be a size 6"! LOL That was enough for me to throw my suit on and not care who was watching!

You are not a terrible mess! I agree with everybody else...wear what you want and if anybody wants to look, then they are wasting their Disney vacation money staring at you when they could be enjoying the pool! LOL
That being said, I am not thrilled with bathing suits and have not worn one since the summer of 2005. Yeah. But I remember seeing a younger girl (14-15) at the pool at All Star Music one time who was definitely larger and wearing a two piece with no qualms. Wish I had her self confidence. And reading everybody's replies makes me feel better.

Don't worry about it - just find a nice suit that is comfortable and believe me, you'll look around and realize you are very normal. I am a big fan of Landsend and they have a special today on the the swim mini's - half price. Beauty comes in all sizes - it's your inner beauty - no one wants to swim with either Cruella de Ville or Ursula. I'd swim with you anytime .

Just for another opinion... I always wear a t-shirt over my swimsuit in the resort pools and at the water parks, however I don't go down the slides. It puts my mind at ease and I don't think twice about it.

I will look into cover-ups.
My teen DD has one to wear to friends swim parties.
I never thought to look inthe women's swim department to get one for myself
I better do so before August rolls around - we live in NY and bathing suits will be replaced with fall clothing by mid-August.

You see just about everything in the pools. The water parks are even worse, especially during the winter time when the brits are the majority... they have less "diginity" when selecting a suit. I also sat across from a family that decided right there was just fine to change into dry clothes. And the bathroom with showers was less than a 100ft away. Not only the kids who were above 7/8 yrs old, but also the parents. And thought that a towel covering the middle section being held up by some one else was good enough cover.

If you want a bit of cover, get one of those bath robe things that they sell for pool lounging. A t-shirt won't do you much of anything once it's wet because it'll just stick to you as tight as the bathing suit.

I wear board shorts, a tankini top, and a swim shirt over (mostly to keep my shoulders from getting burnt). I'm a size 8 and don't feel comfortable in a bathing suit.
