Bathing suits and resort pools

I've got one thing to say after reading this thread....I LOVE YA'LL. Thanks for making me feel better, and I didn't even post this question.

Have a great time! No better way to turn "fabulous" 50!

jb :cool1:

ACK :scared1: No no no! Not turning 50. /me faints :faint: I'll be at CSR celebrating our anniversary and my 40th (there, I said it) birthday. And I am going to swim to my heart's content. :)

Happy belated birthday!!

I've seen people wearing shirts over bathing suits while in the pool. - Doesn't seem to be an issue at all.

That said, I've never gotten the whole issue with size having anything to do with a woman's "hotness"!

I'll admit to watching women at every possible opportunity and I can honestly say that size is not a determining factor in what qualifies someone as attractive or hot. I've seen bunches of women at size 4 that turned my head for a second look, but just as many size 20s that did the same thing.

To me, when I first see a woman, it's not her dress size that strikes me. It's the way she carries herself, her expression and demeanor, eyes, hair, etc. Then, other things - not fit for description on a family board - also come into the equation... Those "extra" things can be just as alluring, and more so, on a big woman than a wispy girl. Any guy who thinks a woman of size 20 can't be as smokin' as her skinny counterparts, is nuts!

Hopefully, this all didn't make me sound like too much of a perv, although that may be accurate.

I guess what I'm saying is, by all means you should wear a shirt if it makes you more comfortable, but from my perpsective, I really wish you wouldn't! :flower3:

I used to wear t-shirts over my swimsuit because I hated the way I looked. I finally got over it and have found some very stylish and flattering suits (although at my size it does take some effort as times, but worth it). As I was really the thread I started thinking about all the times I have been to pools, beaches, water parks, and so on and I think I noticed the people wearing oversized t-shirts in the water more than the anyone else. I guess they just stuck out more to me (and I wore mine for years).

So I am all for wearing your suit and being comfortable with yourself. Like others have said, you spent good money on this trip. Enjoy it and don't worry about what others are thinking. Just don't forget the sunscreen! :)

We are going down to WDW in Aug and I am 48 and a size 22. I bought a beautiful new brown suit and I am going to wear it and not worry. In fact I just remember Lilo and how she takes pictures of chubby tourists and thinks they are beautiful. (I love the writer who thought that one up.:worship:)

When I was in my thirties, I did not put on a suit because I thought I was too chubby. Psssst, I laugh at myself now because I was THIN back then. Enjoy the time with your friends and family, they will not remember your size but the fun you had. If you sit on the sidelines they will remember that instead of the fun.

Live. :hippie:

The people who see you and think you look bad?? Well, you're never ever going to see those clowns again.

I'm a bit bigger and nine years older and I went to TL nearly every morning during our trip last month. Plus we started out at the beach for five days.

Have a good time, forget about the others and enjoy yourself.

By the way, Eddie Bauer also has some nice plus sized suits.

Size 16??!! That's my goal size!! I'd be thrilled to don a 16 and strut around the pool!

Just went to Disney last month and did not wear a tshirt over my suit because a wet heavy cotton tshirt is not comfortable and takes forever to dry.

If anyone was bothered by my size 26 body being by the pool without a tshirt, noone said so!

I go through this trauma every time. And since we're going to spend 2 days at the water parks this time, it's REALLY been on my mind.

But then I remember the story of the woman by the pool during one of our WDW vacations. She was wearing a string bikini, but you could not see the bottom because it was covered...not by a t-shirt, but by rolls and rolls. She looked completely naked on the bottom. :scared1:

Your bathing suit is very tasteful and appropriate. Wear it proud and enjoy yourself!

My mother is a little overweight, and she wears a cover when she goes into the pools. I'm a guy, so I don't know the exact term, but here's a picture...

She wore something like that over her one piece and went in with it on. But like previous posters have said, you shouldn't be too worried, because unless its a VERY rare occasion (I only know of two occasions where someone I know has seen someone they know in the world), you won't ever see these people again.

Another semi-pooh size mom here.:flower3:

I'd just like to add........years from now when asking your family about vacation memories, no one is going to bring up that you had a t-shirt on. They will only remember how much fun you all had at the pool.

Certainly, wear the shirt if it makes you more comfortable. But keep in mind, all of the other people there are going to be so focused on the fun they themselves are having and they are not going to be looking to see who has on a shirt over the suit.

Have a WONDERFUL time on your vacation!

If your married your wife is very lucky. To bad not all people think this way. I have learned that when your on vacation who cares what others think. If they want to spend their time thinking how I look in a swimsuit they must be having an extremely boring vacation. I finally convinced my friend a swimsuit is much more comfortable then a pair of shorts and t-shirt. I like the Brits becuase they seem to be ok with how they look. Maybe we could learn a few things.

My advice is to do what makes you comfortable, but here's a word of advice you are much harder on yourself than anyone else would ever be and really no one really notices how others are dressed at the pool because they are to busy worrying about themselves.

Everyone has insecurities but don't let that get in the way of having fun and enjoying yourself, no matter age or size, really you do not need to wear anything over your suit to swim in. If you feel more comfortable with something else on, that's your decision, but eventually you just have to be comfortable with yourself and let any insecurities go and realize you are on vacation, do what you want and have a wonderful time!

Wear what ever makes you feel good!! It's your vacation! There are people of ALL shapes and sizes in Disney. If you are more comfortable in a TShirt, then wear one!! Enjoy!!

Big, small, hairy, whatever! You're in Disney! Be comfy, let it all hang out, have a good time..........You'll be glad you did! You'll notice the majority doing the same, without a care in the world about what they look like in their suit, shirt, speedo, bikini, scuba gear whatever! It's all good! Well most anyhow, there'll always be that .05% that might let a little too much hang out. Just enjoy!

Ahhh, don't even give it a second thought, most people are having too much fun to even notice or care, heck they're at Disney. I love seeing adults using the pool slide, absolutely hysterical, they're having more fun than the kids are, we do. My best friend and I are in our mid 40's, she goes first and has me give her a push to get her going, good lord do we look goofy.:yay:

Actually, my wife is my Co-Disney Fanatic and my best friend. - She's also a plus-size lady, and I find her EXTREMELY attractive and have a tough time keeping my hands off her.
:goodvibes

I'm 38 and pooh-sized as well. I've given this a lot of thought, and this is the conclusion I've come to: You buy the suit that looks as good on you as it possibly can, and you just go with the flow. I have two children and I think it would be tragic if they wanted to swim with mom, but mom was too self-conscious about what other people are thinking to get in the pool. Sometimes you just swallow your pride and mentally (!!!) flip the bird to anyone thinking unkind thoughts.

In all honesty, though, I doubt anyone will think anything of you. You're a size 16 and that's not so very large. The suit you've picked out is tasteful and would cover any not-so-sightly places. It's not like you're my size and picked out a bikini. :)

Don't worry about it. I too was worried since I haven't lost my baby weight and my baby is 2!!!!!!:confused3

But let me asure you .....you will see it all. Just remember everyone is there to have a good time with their families. Your family and your bodies are not (hopfully) their first priority!!!!

Have fun....and don't worry!

Agreed! I'm just now recovering from a back injury a few years ago (and I gained a lot of weight after that) and swimming is great for me -- so thank goodness I don't have a choice.

A few years ago when my cousin turned 50, she did herself a favour by buying a couple of fairly expensive and very flattering bathing suits -- her justification was that if she saw somebody in a beautiful bathing suit she would notice the suit, not the body wearing it. She's right. :thumbsup2

And I would rather see a larger woman in a pretty bathing suit than a skinny one in a thong bikini :scared1:

Thanks. We all needed that. :goodvibes

Back in the day, I wore little teeny tiny bikinis. Well, that's not happening anymore. I sit on beaches and pools and see other 'older and larger' ladies in their little teeny tiny suits and just wonder what they're thinking. I am just about 60...have 20 more days in the 50's....don't have the same figure I had 20 years ago. I now wear a tankini. I hate having to peel off that one piece in the ladies room. The tankini covers what needs covering just fine. At 5'9" and in the 160 area, I'm not a skinny minny anymore. But there is just no way you are going to find me covering up with a tee shirt at any pool or beach..unless it's to keep the sun off me.
I have a dd, 35, who is very sensitive about her size. She could stand to drop about 30 lbs, and is more than abundant up top. She always wears a tee shirt over her bathing suit. I tell her to just deal with the fact that she is voluptuous...but no, she is too shy about her bust. So, the tee shirts stays.

I say that, especially in WDW, don't worry about being not so skinny. Even at my size (which evidently is still better than average these days thanks to the obesity epidemic in the US) I feel skinny at WDW. You do realize that a size 14-16 is the new average, don't you??? Stand tall and proud!!!
