Can you post a link?

Im sorry...I can't...I am not savvy enough with this contraption to post a link.........

Heck...I still have a rotary dial phone.....with pulse dialing! ...lol...

The tape was a video conference held August 29th discussing the approaching storm....

It has been making the rounds on the news....

Thanks for the link, Laura's link got me there.

The indictment of knowing before is not all that strong, IMO. Of course we knew about the storm, but when the question was asked about the levies, the official responded about the possibility of them being "topped", and he said he was unsure and couldn't comment with any certainty.

I think this is what we all thought before the hurricane struck.

I don't think this is the smoking gun.

Does anyone else feel as though he's acting like a spoiled child who's not getting his way with this deal? I feel like he's almost to the point of stomping his feet and shouting "I am the President!!"

I can picture President Bush singing his explanation to Karl Rove about being caught on tape before Katrina hit....

Ooops... I got caught in a lie....

should I stick my finger into my eye?

or should I fill my ears up with beans?

For fibbing 'bout the storm in New Orleans?

We tried blaming Michael Brown....

then that darn tape of me got found....

There just may be a way out still

Let's put the blame on Hillary and Bill

ETA: the melody is the song about carrying moonbeams home in a jar....

I dont remember the name of it :)

Would You Like To Swing On A Star

Would you like to swing on a star
carry moonbeams home in a jar
and be better off than you are
or would you rather be a mule

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
he kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
he's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
and by the way if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Oh would you like to swing on a star
carry moonbeams home in a jar
and be better off than you are
or would you rather be a pig

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
his shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
you may grow up to be a pig

Oh would you like to swing on a star
carry moonbeams home in a jar
and be better off than you are
or would you rather be a fish

A fish won't do anything but swim in a brook
he can't write his name or read a book
to fool the people is his only thought
and though he's slippery he still gets caught
but if then that sort of life is what you wish
you may grow up to be a fish
(music)
a new kind of jumped up slippery fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
everyday you see quite a few
so you see it's all up to you,
you could be better than you are
you could be swinging on a star

Bush said, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees. They did anticipate a serious storm. But these levees got breached. And as a result, much of New Orleans is flooded. And now we are having to deal with it and will."

Bush was told it was a possibility--no question of that now. What official, what scientist can predict the future with any certainty? Nobody can, so you have to plan for the worst case scenario in these situations. Obviously that didn't happen.

Keep apologizing for Bush, TCPluto. 34% of the country is right behind you. :thumbsup2

This is the best thread ever.

AYUP! That's the one Laura! Again...a note of gratitude....

so...when I think of President Bush singing to Karl Rove....

guess what instrument I picture President Bush playing as he sings?

if you're thinking one of these ~~~> :rockband:

...nope!

ukelele!

And let's not forget these....

"I have a record in office, as well. And all Americans have seen that record. September the 4th, 2001, I stood in the ruins of the Twin Towers. It's a day I will never forget." —George W. Bush, Marlton, New Jersey, Oct. 18, 2004

"You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.'' —George W. Bush, Feb. 21, 2001

"I want it to be said that the Bush administration was a results-oriented administration, because I believe the results of focusing our attention and energy on teaching children to read and having an education system that's responsive to the child and to the parents, as opposed to mired in a system that refuses to change, will make America what we want it to be — a more literate country and a hopefuller country." —George W. Bush, Jan. 11, 2001

"Another example would be the Dred Scott case, which is where judges, years ago, said that the Constitution allowed slavery because of personal property rights. That's a personal opinion. That's not what the constitution says. The constitution of the United States says we're all — you know, it doesn't say that. It doesn't speak to the equality of America." —George W. Bush, second presidential debate, St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 8, 2004

"And so, in my State of the — my State of the Union — or state — my speech to the nation, whatever you want to call it, speech to the nation — I asked Americans to give 4,000 years — 4,000 hours over the next — the rest of your life — of service to America. That's what I asked — 4,000 hours." —George W. Bush, Bridgeport, Conn., April 9, 2002

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda." --Greece, N.Y., May 24, 2005

You need to go back and listen to the tape. The official talks about the Levies being "topped", and that it couldn't be known with certainty whether they would be "topped". I take "topped" to mean water coming over them, not destroying them.

The levies were not just "topped", they were destroyed. "Topping" would have resulted in far less damage than "failing", a fraction of the damage.

I know the factual information provided doesn't fit with your position, but you have to take it for what it is, you can't revise it to fit your agenda.

Sorry.

Nice try, my hair-splitting friend. The fact is, I don't know if Bush understood what "topped" meant, because he didn't ask any questions in the briefing! :rotfl:

But, like I said, keep apologizing for your guy. Maybe tomorrow it'll be less than 34% behind you, but stay strong! :goodvibes

P.S. Are you and bsnyder comparing notes?

I already posted over on the "Bush was Right" thread.

For anyone along the Gulf Coast, I think this video is just "salt on the wound". We know we were forgotten. I honestly think the govt thought we would get out our shovels and dig ourselves some old fashioned wells, get used to the lovely glow of candelight, and develop a taste for pb & j sandwiches (when we were lucky enough to find bread).

You kinda get the feeling that there were those who thought, "Well, it's just Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama...they're used to living like that anyway."

I don't think if you see a wall of water rushing toward your home the question on your mind is, "I wonder if the levee was breached or overtopped?"

You do if you're a blind Bush supporter, I guess.

why did I vote for this guy twice? I guess to keep a dem out of office. I thought the clinton admin was corrupt... bush and cheney are making me wish for the good old days of whitewater cigars, and vince foster.

In case you missed it:

Everyone agrees that it was of grave concern, that's why they were having the conference after all. I also caught him saying he couldn't say the levies would or would not be topped. He never mentioned breached.

Topped and breached are very different. Think about water splashing over the bow of your sailboat (topped) versus pouring through a huge gash in the hull (breached). Big difference.

With one, you're going to get wet; the other, you're going down.

I think the president knew the difference between topped and breached, they're light years apart in difference.

There's an authority that controls a great deal of federal money, given to it every year. The money is for mintenance and improvement. In the recent past, they show a great deal of money spent on projects unrelated to levy improvement. Sounds like we should be talking to these people as well. The position of levy members is a highly political process, not related to the federal government. I'm sure someone else can weigh in to tell us if they are elected or appointed, by the city or the state.

As well, the Army Corp of Engineers has been saying for years that more was needed to shore up the levies, to make them safer for the more devastating storms that were inevitable. Congress failed to act.

No one has seen a hurricane of this level, so no, the President couldn't have known the levies would breach.

I have no interest in blindly defending anyone in this, or any other matter. But we should at least keep to the facts.

I'm not sure who Bsnyder is, I'll check your link though.

Happy bashing as you distort the truth to fit your position! Let's go haters!
