We are visiting Orlando for the second time. First time, four years ago, we had a week in Orlando and a second week in St Pete's beach. It was great, but we didn't want to leave Orlando!

We are going again in August this year (9th -23rd August) and this time, we are doing the full 2 weeks in Orlando. So we are looking for other things to do as well as ALL the parks!!!!!

We have 2 teenage sons who are keen to see a baseball match. I must be honest, we are going mostly to soak up the atmosphere rather than because we are officianados of the sport!

We seem to have two options Tampa Yankees vs Fort Myers Miracles at Legends Field on 21st August or Tampa Bay Devil Rays vs Oakland Athletics at Tropicana Field on August 20th.

Which of these would you recommend? Any advise would be brilliant.

Thanks

Denise

The Legends Field game with the Tampa Yankees vs. the Fort Myers Miracles is a minor league baseball game. These will be very young (but professional) baseball players, say 18 or 19. Legends Field is the spring training home of the NY Yankees and is a scaled down version of Yankee Stadium. You will not find a better minor league venue. As it only seats about 10,000, you will most assuredly be closer to the action than at the Trop. Legends Field is in Tampa so it is closer to Orlando than Tropicana Field, which is in St. Petersburg and will add time to your trip.

The Devil Rays/Athletics game at Tropicana Field is a Major League baseball game (although some would say that the Devil Rays rarely play more than AAA ball;) ). You may even be familiar with some of the Oakland A's players, particularly their pitching trio of Barry Zito, Mark Mulder and Tim Hudson who are three of the best pitchers in baseball. Tropicana Field is a domed stadium, which you may very well appreciate in the heat of Florida in August. We went to a game at the Trop a couple of years ago in July. It was nearing 100 degrees outside and we were cool and comfortable inside at 72! Tickets to the major league game should be more expensive than the minor league game if that makes up your mind one way or the other.

My choice would probably be the Rays/A's game, but then again I'm a big Major League Baseball fan (particularly the NY Yankees, as you can see from my signature and avatar!) but minor league games are fun also and as I said before, Legends Field is a beautiful (albeit outdoor) venue.

Here is a link to the Legends Field website:

And one for Tropicana Field (Devil Rays Info here, too):

Good luck with your decision. Hope I haven't made it even more difficult

Thanks Figment 22. Tampa Yankees looks good but we too are worried about the weather. So the Rays game it is!!! Booking later!
Thanks for all your help

I'm happy I could help. Post a short report when you get home so we all know how you enjoyed it.

Have fun on your whole trip to Orlando.:sunny:
