Bare Minerals vs Major Brands Mineral Makeup

I am way new to all of this.

I have very fair skin. I have a blue undertone on my wrists. I do not tan. I have dark blonde hair and blue eyes. Any suggestions on colors? I want a light coverage since I don't usually wear make-up at all.

If you e-mail them a picture of you, they will suggest colors. They were right on with me - pretty amazing. You sound a bit like me, and I never knew I was "cool" although I think I am pretty hip :rotfl: The colors were Multi - tasking Neutral and Medium - both in the cool category. Light Medium in the beige wasn't bad - but the others I tried were too yellow for me.

Or you can email it to me. Im better at it. ;)

I just found this thread. I ordered the sample kit from EM a week or so ago thanks to some suggestions in a thread I started. I got medium cool in semi matte and original glo, multi-tasking neutral (too light!) in original glo, plum dust blush (haven't tried yet because I'm actually happy with my Clinique blush), and I don't remember which concealer.

I originally used to use Neutrogena's mineral foundation and really liked it at first, but I'm finding that it's not giving me the coverage I want.

The medium color in EM was a bit lighter than I expected, so I might get another sample kit to get the darker color, but it seems like it would be a bit too dark.

Anyway, I'm not a big makeup person -- never wore foundation in my life -- but I do like the mineral makeup!

I think I'll e-mail you a pic today. Should I take one in front of a white wall or something? I'll pull my hair back, so it'll be FUGLY -- just be warned! :scared: :lmao: But at least you'll be able to see my skin and a couple of sun spots and dark under-eye circles that I have. :sad2:

Nahhh- no white wall needed.

I think a lot of people think theyre lighter then they are, and order too light.

I hate to admit it, but I have two sunspots and I have the hardest time covering those! Any suggestions there?

Also, I like Everyday Minerals shadows, but my skin tone is alot lighter I think than those of you who said it was too light for you. I took fair and fair medium (cool) and combined them to get the right foundation shade for me, if that gives you any idea how light I am. Wish I was darker! :beach:

So I need to find a picture of myself and e-mail it to Cathrynrose.

I did try thr Loreal version and it wasn't bad. I got the lightest one they have and I am glad it isn't any darker. Does that say how fair I am?

I went ahead and ordered Fair, Fair-medium and multi tasking. I also ordered apple blush and the green concealer.

I just ordered the EM sample kit! Have been thinking about trying it since last spring and just never did. I wear Aveda dual foundation now which is a packed powder that I put on with a sponge. I love it but in the summer in the heat and humidity it melts when I get sweaty so I finally decided to give this a try. I had a hard time picking my colors but here is what I ended up ordering:

foundation: (Olive) Olive-Olive Medium 2.5g Matte
foundation: (Warm) Warm-Sandy Medium 2.5g Intensive
foundation: (Buff) Buff-Beige Neutral 2.5g Semi-Matte
concealer: Intensive Concealer Medium 2.5g
blush or face color: Evening Out 2.5g

I didn't order any brushes or anything to apply it - does anyone know if they send some temporary ones with the sample kit or will I get just these 5 items??

I didn't get any brushes with my sample kit from EM. But I did get a baby buki brush with my sample kit from Southern Magnolia.

I didn't read through all the threads, but just wanted to chime in on my experience with mineral makeup. I finally decided to order BE samples and tried them out, but it made my skin break out terribly! I was soooo disappointed because everyone seems to love BEI , but I had to stop using it. I do like the sunlight concealer though for under-eye circles.

I've always had pretty good luck with Neutrogena cosmetics, so I tried their mineral foundation. I really like it! My face cleared up pretty quickly, and I love that the brush is part of the container. Just give a little shake and brush all over. The best part is that I can buy it anywhere....and CVS runs a B1G1 on Neutrogena from time to time.

Got my samples in the mail today. I took off my regular makeup and put on the Everyday Minerals - I think I am really going to like this stuff. I think the colors I ordered are going to work just fine for now but once I start getting my summer tan I'll definately have to go darker. I plant to wear it to work tomorrow and see how it does. ;)

I went ahead and ordered Fair, Fair-medium and multi tasking. I also ordered apple blush and the green concealer.

I got the exact same samples and love them all. Any specials or discounts that anyone is aware of? I'm ready to order the full sizes soon.

Pocahantas ~ That's the great thing about mineral makeup -- you can change the color/tone daily, if you want! When I start to get a bit more tan in the summer, I just first shake my regular foundation color into the lid and then add a bit of Everyday Bronzer to that before swirling and buffing. Instantly, I have my perfect color for my skin for that day!

I have tried BM, and from suggestions here I have tried EM too. I liked EM fine, but when I found Madeline's (I think) had a liquid mineral makeup I tried it. I have to say this is what was missing for me before. I just needed a little more coverage in a few spots.

So far I am pretty happy wit it, but I will place another EM order later, I still use it on top of the liquid make up.

I have to say I am not so pleased with the EM brushes. I find they loose bristles a lot and stick to my old BM ones.

I agree. I'm a long time BE user. Years & years of swearing by BE, especially their foundation. Then last month we were away, and I forgot to pack the BE foundation. I had everything else in my makeup bag, but that. I didn't have time to go to the mall and look for BE, so I ran into CVS and bought the Neutrogena mineral foundation.

IMHO, I think the coverage is better and it actually made my skin look more matte (I love matte), it went on smooth as silk. I love it. I'm going to cancel my auto delivery of BE foundation and continue with the Neutrogena.

I have to say I am not so pleased with the EM brushes. I find they loose bristles a lot and stick to my old BM ones.

Lots of people had the same issues with the EM brushes- they changed to an all-synthetic brush line, and now they are AWESOME!! So soft, and pick up and distribute the minerals wonderfully. No shedding, either.

If you ever need another brush, give the new EM ones a try- I think you'll be a convert.

Good to know, my old brushes are a year old or so. I don't use the EM ones anymore.
