Can anyone recommend a hotel in Barcelona while awaiting our Mediterranean Cruise in june 2011?

We stayed at the Hotel Regina last year. Very nice location at the top of Las Ramblas (sp?)...on a side street with little noise...nice bar downstairs...room was huge...decent price. I'd go there again!

We stayed at the Tryp hotel and the Hesperia Tower. The Tryp has a free shuttle to/from the airport. Hesperia has a very limited shuttle to city center and airport (but not from those locations to the hotel). We got them on Priceline--paid $75 each! Tryp is 4*, Hesperia is 5*. The Tryp has great access to public transportation (bus and metro), Hesperia is 1 1/2 blocks from Metro.

OK, they are in the airport area (not downtown)...but I wanted a place to get over my jet lag before the cruise, and for that they were super!

Based on reviews here on the DIS and on Trip Advisor we have booked the Hotel Novotel Barcelona City for 1 night pre-cruise. I booked their cheapest rate which was non-refundable and I included breakfast for 109 euro (at the time they charged my credit card it was $146 USD). They take 2 kids 16 and under for free in the same room (hard to find in Europe). It has been hovering at around # 74-75 out of 565 or so hotels in Barcelona on Trip Advisor lately. Then we booked the Hotel Jazz for 2 nights after the cruise...a little more expensive, right off Las Ramblas, stays consistently in the top 10 hotels in Barcelona for 311 euro for a "triple" room (about $422 total right now).

We stayed at the AC DIplomatic. It was really nice and it was very cheap ( think around $150 for advance rate). It was a DCL affiliated hotel so you can use their shuttle, but we just used a cab. It is also in a good location imo.

i have pics and review in my blog....the link is in my siggie. HTH.

Anyone have any info about Rennaisance at Barcelona airport? Seems nice, but how far from Las Ramblas, etc?

My BFF and I stayed at the Praktik Rambalas and it was very nice, clean and affordable.

This hotel was on my short list had we had a flight that was arriving later (we're coming in from a few days in Paris). I figured if we came late it would be a good place to crash without too much hassle since it's right by the airport. They do have a shuttle that goes into town (to Las Ramblas I think) and they offer a "pre-cruise package" with a shuttle to the port (this package costs extra but it sounded convenient). I forget how often the shuttle runs - I think it's about a 30 minute ride in each direction. We ended up booking a morning flight so decided to stay in the city instead.

Our biggest requirement was that we could sleep more than 2 per room as we didn't want to get a 2nd room for DS. It is very hard to find hotels in Europe that will sleep 3-4 per room. I think the AC Diplomatic was one that only slept 2 per room. The other ammenity that we wanted was for the hotel to have a pool of some sort so if we had an hour to relax we could do so.

I got a great deal for the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel. Fabulous hotel, with a great location. It was like a 5 minute walk to the Columbus Monument and the bottom of La Ramblas, the Hop On Hop Off bus had a stop right in front, and it was right on the water, very close to the port where the Magic was docked (I could see the Magic from the Hotel). The rooms were large, extremely clean and very modern. I had a fabulous city view of Barcelona. I can highly recommend it.

Sayhello

Yes, we stayed here after our 11 night cruise. It was very nice and they have transportation to the center of the city to pick up tour buses. They also have transportation to the airport. Rooms were good sized and very nice. I would stay here again.

Another vote for the AC Diplomatic ,Very nice and located 1 block from a main shopping district

My family and I stayed at The Hotel Barcelona Universal. I was nice. It has a pool on the roof. It isn't really the type of place I would choose to stay at just over night. We stayed for three nights so we could adjust to the new time and to explore barcelona a bit. We were also able to see the ship the morning we boarded from our room! pirate:

I just book the AC Diplomatic for 4 nights after our EBTA in May. They do allow more then 2 in a room and they have a pool. Seems like a great location and reviews are very good.

My BFF and I stayed at the Praktik Rambalas and it was very nice, clean and affordable.

My daughter and her husband stayed there prior to and after their Med. honeymoon cruise and LOVED it. Said it was right in the middle of everything and the staff was extremely nice. They are hoping to go back to Barcelona this summer and plan to stay there again. Get a room with a balcony if you can.

For larger groups, and for more than one night, I would also consider renting an apartment from these guys ;
http://www.habitatapartments.com/
(they specialise in high quality short term rentals).

It may even be cost effective to book 3 nights rather than 2, even though you may not need the extra night, as selecting 3 nights will considerably broaden your choice and possibly bring up more lower priced apartments.

These are high spec apartments, many of which have wonderful views, and/or terraces over the city...also most will have washing facilities which could be useful post/pre cruise.

We found using an apartment saved us £££s/$$$$s as we did not have to eat out every meal......plus of course, so much more space than a hotel room !
