Baptism Gift?

Many (most) people just give cash and a card. Do you have a religious book/gift store near you? If so, there would be other options.

One of my friends gave my older son a framed piece of art...a guardian angel with a prayer.

Depending on what you think your friends would like, you can find photo frames, etc. One really great idea if you can find a Catholic bookstore is to buy a small library of Catholic children's books. They have books about the sacraments, about prayer, about the saints, and about Jesus' life. I was given a set of these for my baptism and loved them throughout my childhood.

Here's a link for the books:

The nice thing about the book idea is that, if you are going to be close to this child, you can continue to add to the collection for upcoming birthdays, holidays, sacraments, etc.

We give this book from a local religious store (along with a check or cash depending on how close we are to the family):

Anyone we give it to we explain that for our boys' baptisms, my DM got this for them and everyone who attended wrote a special note to the baby. DS8 and DS5 love to read the book and all of the notes their parents, godparents, grandparents, and other family members wrote for them at their baptisms! :)

Our kids received faith based gifts from their godparents, checks grandparents, and various other gifts such as an outfit, story books, a hand knit blanket, etc. from other guests.

OK, this is what I am thinking. I got small train pieces that spell out his name. With the engine and caboose there are 6 train pieces. I got a do it yourself shadow box and some small wooden decorations that will match the theme of his room. (Boat, car, bus, plane.) I was thinking I would paint the shadowbox and put one each vehicle in the corner of the box and paint the engine and caboose. Then DH, and each DD would paint a letter in his name and write a message to him on it. The train connects with magnets and I was going to use velcro to attach it to the top of the shadow box so if they want to leave it on that is fine and if not they can pull it off for him to play with.

Thoughts? I can return it all but I'd like to give something personal along with a check.

ETA- Actually I don't think I'd return it, I could save it for his first birthday of nothing else.

Both of my boys received a gold St. Christopher medal on a necklace. They were child sized. St. Christopher is the protector...My oldest wore his at his First Communion and it was very meaningful to my sister who gave it to him. I keep them in my dresser drawer for them and will pass them on when they have children of their own. My sister plans to give them adult sized ones for their confirmations that they can wear daily.

Thanks for all the tips. I started the train but because today I hosted an Ice Cream for Breakfast for GKTW and I ran out of time. So I did the birth announcement and put the train off, we will make it for his first b-day in 11 months. ;)
So, the birth announcement and a smaller check is what we are going with, basically exactly what we gave them for their wedding.

OP, just wanted to say that I think you are very thoughtful....I would really, really appreciate it if someone put the thought, time and effort into a gift for one of my kids like you did! I'm sure the parents will love it and the train set/shadow box idea for the first birthday is great!
