banana boat ride

Is there a warning not to ride if you have a bad back? PLEASE< PLEASE, PLEASE say no!

We did the B-boat ride and it sure was a blast. I have heard of people falling off like Andy said but on our ride no one fell off. Andy seem's to have had the better ride I think.

Considering costs of all things I even think it may have been a value as far as disney pricing goes.

How do you get on the boat itself? All I can imagine is myself trying to climb up the curved, slippery side of this thing and being unable to do so! Especially if I fall off out the ocean. LOL

When you first start out the BB is on the shoreline and very easy to get on, if you fall off in the ocean like we did, it's a little more difficult to get back on, but it still was a BLAST!!!

Here is a picture of my DD getting ready to get on the BB before our ride.

Oh I see! It has "sides", so that would make it easier to climb back on out in the ocean. This is something we are definitely doing on our Castaway Cay day! :sunny:

Andy, thanks so much for all of your pictures. It really makes it so much easier to see exactly what is being discussed! :)

I didn't hear any warning, but I will tell you that my DH's back hurt for quite a few days after that. He does have some back problems. He sat in the front. I sat in the back and while it was bouncy, it was a smooth type of bounce. My DH said where he sat it felt like he was being bounced off a wall. I hope that makes sense.

My DD and I were in the front two seats on the left side of the BB and we were literally flying off our seats on several occasions, it added to the fun!!!

It looks like great fun!! Hey, if I hurt my back at that point, it'll be at the end of the cruise! I would really like to try it!!

I did the banana boat in Cozumel and don't think goggles would be a good idea. Almost a sure thing that you're going to fall off and when you do, it's hard. If you land face down, the goggles may actually hurt you ...

Just how fast does this banana boat go? Why do so many fall off? Is it a very rough ride?

I signed my family up for two times on our cruise (1/03) because I was concerned about the weather and if it rained at one time of day and not the other. They had a 10:30 a.m. and 3:00p.m. They ended up doing it both times and said the second ride was bumpier and more fun.

So my advice, if you can afford it, is to book two times because it's so much fun.

I can't say how many mph it is going but they "whip" you around and that is how you fall off ... don't worry about the speed, it's really not that fast ... it's just that you're out in the open, the wind blowing ... it's too much fun to miss!

I knew we were getting thrown off. I saw the little speed that was pulling us make a sharp turn to the right, the next thing I knew we were all flying off to the left. I did scrape me elbow on the BB on the way into the water, but it was still worth it. My DD and I came up laughing so hard, we had trouble getting back on the BB.

Can I make reservations for the banana boat as well as snorkeling at the same time? I remember seeing that I can make these reservations about 60 days out. Do they have snorkeling at CC too?

Yes you can, and yes they do.

My DD and I did the banana boat in May 2002 and had an absolute blast. But she didn't want to do it our next cruise. She said it was too rough.

Something no one has mentioned is the insides of your legs. On our trip, there was enough sand on the boat, that bouncing up and down rubbed quite a bit. Wearing shorts would be my recommendation. The insides of our thighs were pretty scratched up.

I would do the banana boat as many times as possible. It is so fun. All the times I have gone on CC no one has fallen off, but I have definitely come close. It takes a lot of muscle to hold on while laughing and trying not to let go. My DBF's sister (16) went on it with us and she couldn't stay up, she always leaned in the middle of the boat and couldn't get up. $14.00 is a great price for so much fun. I would not miss the opportunity to go on the banana boat.

Thanks for the tip about wearing shorts- I think that'll come in handy hwen we do this! Sounds like lotsa fun!

My DS and I took the banana boat ride in Cozomel and had a blast. We fell off twice and laughed hysterically both times. I highly recommend this.:Pinkbounc

Karebear 1, I have never been on the bannaboat, but if you have a bad back I probably wouldnt go on it. We have a ski boat and when ever there is choppy water my back is out for days. It sounds like what people are describing is pretty much like being in a regular boat with choppy water. I am not trying to upset you if you are excited to go, I would just hate for you to get hurt and not be able to enjoy the rest of your cruise. Keep in mind this is all just my humble opinion and I have never been on the banana boat. :D
