Baltimore BOT-Fest

Oh Chester, I'm sorry I missed you! I spent all Friday afternoon (the first day without record breaking cold!!) biking around Fort Wilderness checking out all the groovy Christmas decorations. I left late Friday night. Darn. Well, I'll see you in a few weeks anyway.

Um, shouldn't you be out running 20 miles????popcorn::

Hi everyone! Happy Holidays! Hopefully this work week will fly by and the weekend will last a while.

Lou~ Your link isn't working. :rolleyes1

Hope everyone is doing well and pretty much into the taper or just on the brink. I traveled 18.39 miles yesterday in more time that I've taken to complete a marathon. I went out for an 18 miler and inadvertantly tripped on a raised section of sidewalk and stumbled. In my attempt to not fall on my face, I somehow pulled/tweaked my left hamstring. More like the very top of it deep in the buttox area. :headache: It feels sore like someone gave me a swift kick with a steel toed boot. It hurts then I walk as I extend my leg outward. In addition to that, the PF in my left foot is making itself known and I developed a couple of nice blisters. Welcome to my world! :confused3 :sad2: Despite the pull, I felt that if I could run on it, it would stretch out. It actually did get a bit better for the first 10 miles, from there it was all downhill. I walked the last 5 miles home in some really cold weather.

I am definitely considering this my taper and rethinking all future Goofy attempts. I will be more than satisfied with running one OR the other and not both. It'll give me a chance to scream team on the off day and/or volunteer at a water stop, etc.

In a total "wierdosity", I got a strange email from NYRR.org saying I was "IN" for the NYC Half-Marathon in March. I don't remember signing up for the NYC Half-Marathon. I am checking into it and will report back. I sent them an email about it this morning. I am in the lottery again for the NYC Marathon though, that's for sure.

More later..... Judy ~ I hope your 20 goes better than my 18.39.

Um, shouldn't you be out running 20 miles????popcorn::

I'm doing it now, just taking a break to go give my girls some lunch.

Howard, I would volunteer to massage your buttocks for you, but I'm not sure how well that would go over with everyone else. ;)

I did not get into the NYC Half and quite frankly I am done with the NYRR mind games of "send in your money and we'll make you wait eight months then tell you we didn't accept your lousy application but took your money anyway". There are plenty of other races to do.

I would like to say right now I have done 7 and have 13 to go and I never, EVER want to do this again.

Judy~ Thanks for the offer. :thumbsup2

Keep going on those miles... no one ever said this was easy (or it should be). One step at a time... all of this will be worth it when you cross the finish line in WDW and high five Mickey and Minnie before you collect your bling. :goodvibes

Getting back to my earlier post, this is what I received from the NYRR staff member:

Hello Howard

You entered the lottery for the NYC Half marathon on June 2nd
You entered the lottery for the ING NYC marathon on November 8th

You were accepted into the NYC half marathon
The lottery for the ING NYC marathon will be drawn in April

Take care,
Janet

So... now I am running a race that wasn't on my radar screen, there are considerable logistical hurdles and costs to running it too. Also, I was planning on running the Caesar Rodney Half the following weekend here in Wilmington. I am now taking that off my list for this coming year.

Hey BOTs,

I think I got the whole BOT logo thing figured out. If you change the link to the BOT to the link below it should work again.

Howard - Congrats on the NYC 1/2 lottery win. You may want to try your luck on some scratch off tickets this week. I guess I'll have to hang out in the Doubletree hotel lobby before Caesar Rodney this year.

I think I may need to take some time off running for a while. For some reason I have not healed up well since all of the November races. I tried running 6 on Sunday and 3 yesterday and had trouble walking all day. The groin injury (INSERT MIKE JOKE HERE) does not want to heal and appears to have gotten worse despite the lack of heavy running lately. If I run again in 2010 I think it will be a very slow jog. Note to self - never run 3 races in three weeks again.

Lou

Lou - Maybe Judy will extend you the same massage offer she did to Howard.

It stinks that you are still hurting. Your plan to take it easy sounds pretty prudent. Just watch out for the holiday cookies. Those calories don't burn themselves you know (although good beer does help negate some).

Howard - Congrats on your phantom lottery win. Let us know if you get into any other races that you didn't register for.

Baby those aches/pains/injuries.

We arrived at our site in the 300 loop about 3:30pm. It's the one adjacent to the dog park. You should have seen the decorations at night! Some people really go over the top. See you in a couple of weeks.

Colleen
I guess your sleigh ride is over by now. I thought is would go through all the campground loops, not just the couple closest to the Settlement. I wasn't that impressed. We had a better time riding bikes through the loops.

Second 20 miler was completed monday and I feel guilty after reading Howard's posts. I've made it through this year's training injury free. Even the PF that was an annoyance last year and the knee pain from Wine & Dine has gone. Get well Howard we're looking forward to seeing you out there.

Lou
Try giving compression shorts a try. Sweat It Out makes area specific shorts that may help. Check out their webiste: http://www.sweatitout.com/. I bought a pair at the Philly Expo years ago and use them on long runs.

Mike
Looking forward to seeing you and Kathy soon.

I'm shifting my training schedule by a day this week so I'm not scheduled to run on Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all BOTs, everywhere.

Chester

Hi, it's Lesley. I broke down after hiding in the shadows for a few months and finally registered for a user name. Since I recognize some people in this thread, I thought I'd post here.

I got bit by the running bug and ran the Halloween 5K back in October, and I think I'm going to run the Princess half in 2012. :scared1:

I'll be at Disney for marathon weekend, but I'll probably be sleeping through the half and enjoying the parks during the full. But good luck to everyone!

Wait. THE Lesley! The Professor's Lesley? Welcome!

Lesley - You may not remember but Kathy and I were in the group at Pecos Bill's the day after Wine and Dine this year. Welcome!

Chester - It's great to hear that you are running pain free and putting in big miles to boot. Great job.

I got a 20 miler in today. I had hoped to squeeze one more in by early next week but I'm thinking I just may not have the time.

Lou - Maybe Judy will extend you the same massage offer she did to Howard.

Lou is about the only Bot I have't met yet, so I'm hoping he might be the only one left that still thinks I'm a nice girl, so don't go ruining things for me, Mike. :upsidedow

My NB 850s have arrived. These are the shoes that will take me to infinity and beyond! Gosh, they are beautiful...I hate to put them on the ground...

I gotta ask. Did you smell your shoes when you took them out of the box? My entire family thinks I'm a bit of a loon when I stick my nose in a brand new pair of shoes and take a big sniff. "Aah, smells like motivation!"

Lou - Hey, what's the deal with Louie revamping his entire fantasy football team? Is he trying to kick my butt or something?

Speaking of the fantasy football league... Cindy are you out there? I laugh everytime I see your team name. Did Mr. Favre include you on his cellphone pic distribution list?

Of course! :thumbsup2 And I pet them too. I think they were purring.

He said he was going to make a run at winning the BOT League title. He told he to make changes with my team but I think I am going to ride the Michael Vick Experience out to the end. Vick basically scores 80% of my team's points.

Wait, we're still doing that Fantasy Football thing? Have I won any games?

MERRY CHRISTMAS, BOTS!! WISH I WAS GOING TO SEE YOU ALL IN A FEW WEEKS!! :grouphug:
