Baltimore BOT-Fest

Jodi, this is a full marathon on 7/30? Did you say there was no or limited training leading up to this? If that's the case, I say bail on it and concentrate on getting yourself healthy for the fall races. This race will be a distant memory in a month.

Alright, alright, if you DNF or DNS, we ALL PROMISE not to bust your chops about it. :goodvibes

Right, Bots? Right???? :upsidedow

Jodi - I guess my question is do you know what's wrong with your toe/foot? If it's some sort of tendonitis or something that's feeling fine after 3 weeks of rest and you feel like being miserable, go for it. If you have a stress fracture or something that's going to get worse with running...

I'd advise against running it (but I'd be leaning toward running it if it was me;) 'cause I ain't all that smart. See below.).

I went out to the battlefield this evening for a little run while the girls were at dance. The time/temp sign at the community college right next door said 108 degrees. Nice! The sign was in direct sun so... :confused3 I think the official temp at that time was only 102. Either way, let's just say it was plenty warm to "run" 9 miles.

One thing really struck me though. I think the sun and heat beating down on some of the open fields was sort of baking the grasses there. It actually smelled really nice; sort of a mixture of hay, cinnamon, and roasted marshmallows. It would have been very enjoyable if my own brain hadn't been partially parboiled at that point.

Thanks for your input everyone. I'm thinking I need to let this one go (AGAIN!!!:headache::mad:). What you've all said makes sense (except for Howard).

Mike - The foot is "strained" & is getting better by the day, but it was definitely an "injury". If the voodoo guy couldn't fix it in a visit, it's hurtin'. Nothing's tight, per se, just boo-booed. And stop running in this heat, please!!

Jen - If I was your patient I think you'd tell me not to run. I don't think I'd like not finishing too much. Plus, that'd probably me I had re-injured it...then I'd be really pissed.
Sorry your mouth is giving you such a hard time, I had no idea it was that heinous. Nice job on that sweat 5K :scared:. yuck.

Colleen - Thanks for being the voice of reason, mom. See you @ MCM?

Judy - You're a troll. ;)

Keep cool out there!

Jodi~ I did say "My advice aside, I don't want to see you hurt it further, or run on it before it's 100%." which means I care.

I'm very glad you are being cautious about this "boo-boo". Only you know how it feels.. pain level, discomfort when stepping or landing, etc. This too shall pass and we'll see you out there smiling at mile 18 yet again. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I'm running a 5K in less than three hours. Current Temps are a cool 90 Degrees with 62% Relative Humidity. It's going to be a sweatfest. It is "cooler" than the last few days but the humidity is way up. I'll post a report later.

Good luck @ your 5k, Howie!! I'm just bustin' your butt...I know you care :rolleyes1. But I must correct you.... "smiling at mile 18"??? :rotfl: Obviously you've never seen me past mile 16 ;). The foot feels pretty dang good, but like you said, just trying to be cautious.

Jodi: you are right. If you were my pt I'd tell you to sit this one out. None of my patients ever listen to me thou:rotfl2: I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself worse.

Howard: hope your 5K went well.

We are officialy on vacation :cool1::cool1::cool1: DD was so excited she woke up at the crack of dawn today. Looks like a beach day on tap then maybe I can talk her into a nap.

Jodi, listen to Dr. Jen!:thumbsup2 Jen, I would listen to you, I like the way you practice medicine. Have fun on vacation!!!!

Hi to everyone!!

Hi everyone!!! I hope you had a great weekend.

Lou~ Great LR over the weekend! I hope you enjoyed relaxing by the pool this afternoon with a beverage in your hand.

Mike~ You continue to get some great runs in. Great pace too. :thumbsup2

I wanted to post a note about my 5K on Thursday evening. It was hot (really hot & steamy) as I expected. I had to pull up about 3 times during the run to quickly catch some air. Despite that, I managed a pretty decent time:

Miles: 3.1
Chip Time: 25:18
Pace: 8:10
Splits: 7:03, 8:00 and 9:05 (according to my Garmin)

The course had changed since my last running of this race in 2008. Most of the first mile was downhill (Lou will know which one I am speaking about near the back of Wilmington Hospital). Unfortunately, the finish is uphill about 250 yards. Despite the conditions, this was my second fastest 5K ever. I missed a PR by 55 seconds! :sad1:

Oh well... I need to hit the hay. I'm up for work early tomorrow. Have a wonderful Monday and week ahead.

Lou~ Great LR over the weekend! I hope you enjoyed relaxing by the pool this afternoon with a beverage in your hand.

Yes, it did feel good to finally get in a double-digit LR. Got up at 5AM to run in Philly before the sun was out in full force. Parked at my office and ran to the Art Museum and around the loop (8.25 miles) for a total of 14 miles at 8:55mpm pace. I figured this was the start of getting ready for the fall races.

Howard - Nice job on the 5K. Yes, that downhill is pretty steep. Nothing worse then an uphill finish.

Hey BOTs!!!!

Lou

Hello???? Anybody home?

Wow...pretty quiet around here.

I say this as I knock on wood all around me but I am having somewhat of a relaxing day at work today. My admin assistant is on vacation and I was worried that the phone would ring off the hook while she's away. Actually working from the home office (watching the kids) as Nicole just started a new job at Children's Hospital of Phila. Got in 4 miles this morning before a deluge of rain.

Mike - Sorry about the whole LeBron thing. I think Cleveland is officially the most depressing sports city in the USA. You guys need a break.

Sara - How are things? I haven't been checking the thread as much lately but was wondering how you're doin.

Jodi - How r the feet doing? Are you still sticking with the frog shoes?

Howard - Glad you and Cam enjoyed Tim McGraw the other night. I actually ran by the ferry in Philly on Friday night before the concert. Lots of ladies in cowboy hats waiting for the ferry. Were you sporting your 10-gallon hat?

Hello to everyone else! I'll try to catch up on the old posts which should not be hard since everyone must be on vacation but me.

Lou

Hi Bots,

Just wanted to stop by to say hello. I've been reading, just haven't had time to post much. I've been on vacation for the past 2 weeks, but that's all behind me now. I ran a 5K while in VA visiting my Mom. Boy am I slow!!. The course was hilly, but not that hilly and the temps were in the 50s at the start. I really need to buckle down and get myself in shape. I am planning to do a half this fall. Trying to pick which one. With the kids' soccer schedules it will most likely have to be something local. The Boston Half Marathon registration opens tomorrow and sold out last year in a day, so if I plan to do that one I'd better make up my mind soon. Thinking of maybe Ridgefield. Howard, you've done that one - how bad are the hills?

Have a great day everyone. I'll try to post more soon.
Cindy

Hi BOTS!!! What's Shake'in????

Thinking of maybe Ridgefield. Howard, you've done that one - how bad are the hills? Cindy

CindyLouBQ~ I ran Ridgefield last year with Charlie. I finished it in 2:04:09. I am planning on running it again this year. The hills are not bad a few undulating type hills, but not terrible. Nothing like Fairfield if that means anything. So, if you decide to run Ridgefield, we can see you again! That would be great!

Lou~ I do not own a 10 Gallon or even a 5 Gallon Hat, but I saw many of them. There were some ladies decked out in outfits that were meant for girls half their age and size. The concert was good, we had pretty good seats, but we're never close enough. Cam posted some photos on her Facebook page if anyone wants to check out Love and Theft, Lady Antebellum and Tim McGraw.

I managed to get out to run tonight after work:

Miles: 8.0
Time: 1:11:26
Pace: 8:56
Splits: 9:08, 9:08, 8:58, 8:56, 8:56, 8:55, 8:49 and 8:36.

It was very hot and humid but the sun was going down towards the end of the run. I am pleased with the effort I put in. My son Andrew rode his bike while I ran. Good father son time. :thumbsup2

Got to shower and hit the hay. Have a great day tomorrow!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hello all great Bot-nesses,

ATTENTION ATTENTION, I have training to report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 miles, count them, 3, trois, 3 miles with 2 of them running without stopping. I have to say, it really took a toll on me though, I need to get out more often.

Howard, Those 8 look pretty awesome!:thumbsup2

Yeah, what Mike said, Jodi how is the paw?

Sara, hope your summer is going well! Was Lady Gaga awesome?

Yo yo yo, peeps!

Sorry I haven't posted, I've been outside enjoying this beautiful heat & humidity here in the northeast! (insert middle-finger smilie here)! Have I mentioned lately that I hate the heat?

Howard - :worship: 8 miles??? In this weather?? In the sun?? Holy crap. Very impressive.

Lou - How's your wife's new job? How's business for you? Sounds like you've been keeping busy. Thinking of running in AC this Oct.?

Mike - Shouldn't you be in Disney about now? Impressed @ your running consistency - lot's 'o FB info on that. There's an article in my new "Marathon & Beyond" about your Bull Run Ultra!! Haven't read it yet, but will pass on the issue when I'm done with it. See paw info below.

Jen - I'd listen to you if you were my doc. You make sense. How's the tooth? Hope you're having a blast on your vacation.

BQCindy - Glad you had a safe trip to VA...sounds as if you had a good visit. Did you sign up for the Boston 1/2? Slow 5k?? Let's not talk slow right now :headache:.

Colleen - :cheer2::dance3: No WAY!!! You "trained"? You ROCK. Does this mean you're actually going to do MCM? How's the weather down where you are?

Hey all you other non-posting lurkers...

Here's the deal with the paw-it's getting better...slowly. I've been dabbling on some short run/walks for the past week & yesterday was actually able to "run" 4 miles without much discomfort. I say "run" because it was an incredibly feeble looking event (it's amazing how much fitness you can lose in 4 weeks). All of this is being done in sneakers. I have no doubt that the frog-shoes are the reason why I injured my foot - that being said, I still plan to stick it out wear them again as soon as I can. I walk in them regularly, but don't want to run in them yet b/c the foot just ain't ready. And because I'm neurotic & had to cancel 2 (count 'em TWO) events in the span of 4 weeks, I've gone & decided to sign up for a sprint tri! .5 mile swim, 12 bike, 3.5 run. I think it's on 8/3, so I better get training. My biking sucks SO hard, it's terrible. Swimming is OK, I think. This a.m. I walked the dog a mile, got on the bike & did a quick 2.5 miles, then got off & ran a mile. It was quite pathetic, I'll tell you. :3dglasses. You all shoulda seen me trying to run bow-legged down the street...hobbling, really. Wonder what it'll feel like after TWELVE miles of biking? :scared1:

Wow, a little long-winded today. Sorry.

Lou - Thanks for checking in:yay: We're headed down to AC for vacation at the end of the month and we've never been so if you have any must do or see's, let me know:thumbsup2 Congrats to Nicole on the new job and for the double digit run:goodvibes

Howard
- Sweet race time:banana: Tim McGraw is SO yummy and I hope you had a great time at the concert:cloud9:.

Colleen
- Lady Gaga was really good and we had a great time in Montreal:love: Great job on the 3 miles:yay:

Mike - :worship:Completely impressed with the consistent mileage.

Jodi - Loads of :wizard: for the foot!

CindyLou - Slow is a relative term:rolleyes1

Chester - Thinking of you and Tracy:grouphug:

Judy - If you happen to come across a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in need of a good home, I have one in upstate NY!! Hoping the volunteer work brings you loads of joy:lovestruc

Jen - Have an excellent time on vacation:thumbsup2

Keeping busy and getting out as much as possible:yay:

Judy - If you happen to come across a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in need of a good home, I have one in upstate NY!! Hoping the volunteer work brings you loads of joy:lovestruc

Sara - I get accused of lurking here  but I have to respond to you on this one. Certainly I will! My friend had two of them so I know what I'm looking for. They only have about 12 dogs at a time now, until their expansion gets approved. But I'll keep an eye out.

OK, back to being a troll. :cool2:

Cindy - Nice job on the 5K. You know I still have never run one yet? Boston 1/2 would be a nice race. You should go for it.

Mike - Just thank God Cleveland doesn't have a hockey team.

Howard - Great job on the 8 miles! I could have sworn I saw a guy with a WISH 10-gal hat from the other side of the river. You sure that wasn't you?

Colleen - Alright! 3 miles and 2 non-stop. All I know is that if your kids are still in swimming there really is no time to run. Marissa is in her second year and, although she's no Michael Phelps, the swim schedule kills your summer and running. Feel like I live at the swim club.

Jodi - Nicole is loving CHOP. She said they gave her an office and voice mail. Quote..."I felt like Melanie Griffith in Working Girl." Work this week started off quiet and is now insane. We got 3 new contracts in 2 days. I have officially moved the home office to the Philly office and actually have real staff.

Sara - Do people actually vacation in A.C.? I thought they just limoed in, gambled, and bolted back to NYC or Philly before morning. It's actually a fun place. I love the restaurants in the Trop (Cuba Libre or Carmines) and Buddakan at the Pier at Ceasars. There's even a 6-mile boardwalk if you feel like run. If you head to the beach drive a couple miles south to Margate or Longport.

Jen - Hope you are enjoying WDW!
