Baltimore BOT-Fest

I'm here!!

Howard - It was great seeing you the other day! Awesome job on that 1/2 on a nasty, humid day. and thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the stout!!

Chester - Ugh! Poor Tracy. I hope she's hanging in there...tell her I said so & that I'm thinking about her :grouphug:

So should we call you Marlin Perkins now or what? You need to run with camera, for sure!!

Colleen - Did you go away again?? ;) How come you don't post anymore? Is it Mike? How're the kids & your hubby?

Mike - I'm running a night time marathon in MA on July 30th. It's takes place the same time as a 12 & 24 hour ultra...3 mile loops around a lake :scared1:

Judy - I suppose it was nice seeing you, too. :snooty: ;).

Others?

OK, all about me now. My friggin' foot SUCKS!!!! I tried to run in sneakers this a.m. & it was pain instantly. I went around the block (1 mile) then walked around once. Almost in tears like a big douche. Then I thought about others out there, some of them right here on these boards, that have been through a lot more, and got a grip.

Today the top of my foot hurt...I could swear I actually broke something this a.m. But then 10 minutes later it was fine again. :confused3 I don't get it, but I AM getting pissed . Going to the chiro again this afternoon to see what he can do. Made an appointment with the witchdoctor for tomorrow, too. :sad2:. We'll see what happens...The chiro said it's to be expected with the barefoot running, but that the body will adjust. In the meantime my entire family is hiding in their rooms because my lack of running is making me a bit testy. If you can imagine that?:littleangel:

Jodi, are you sure about exactly what is wrong with your foot? Maybe you should get an MRI?? Or did you already do that and I wasn't paying attention?

I ran some tonight and took advantage of the more moderate temps and humidity.

Miles: 5.01
Time: 44:27
Pace: 8:53
Splits: 9:53, 9:22, 8:26, 8:29 and 8:15

Jodi~ Lets figure out the foot issue, the world is a better and happier place when you're running. Feel better soon. Hugs

Howard

Judy - Haven't gotten an MRI, but am convinced? that it's a muscular/tendon type of thing. Otherwise, I don't think it would feel fine at times. The Chiro gave me a talking to yesterday & told me to give it a solid week before trying to run on it. He's thinking it's a sprained joint & now I've aggravated the muscle by trying to run yesterday a.m. So I'm icing it & taking some herbal tincture :wizard:  & staying off it. Felt fine this a.m.. I'll be bike riding for exercise for the next week or so.

Howard -Nice job on that 5!! Isn't the weather terrific? Supposed to get hot again over the weekend though .

CindyLouBQ - Left you out of my last posting. Of COURSE it was nice meeting you for longer than just 30 seconds this time. You're kids are too cute!! If my foot continues on this way you won't have to come to my run around the lake 'cause I won't be doin' it!! If I DO, it's going to be a sorry affair!

Not much else going on here except my whining. Bruce & I are supposed to go into NYC on Sat. - not sure this is a great idea with all the walking, but we'll see.

What's going on with the rest of you freaks? Too busy to post?

:moped:
Drive by - Hey BOTS.

Been busy with work and not getting much running in. Chet and I are registered for the Wine and Dine Half.

Tracy's Dad has been in and out of the Hospital for the last month. He has been diagnosed with a cancerous stomach tumor and cancerous cells in the liver. He started chemo last week, but hasn't responded well. He's not eating or drinking and is very tired and confused. He's being taken back to the hospital today by Tracy's brother. It's scary how fast he is weakening. Tracy is holding up pretty well, but I know it is very hard for her so soon after loosing her Mom.

Best W.I.S.H.es to all the BOTS and their families,

Chester
Chester- I just wanted to WISH you and Tracy all the best for her Dad. It sounds like a difficult time for him, and I hope he comes through. Strength to Tracy.

So I'm icing it & taking some herbal tincture :wizard:
I hope "herbal tincture" is some hippy-dippy code for your fine home brew!

Let your team of healers work their voodoo magic and stay off that foot for a while.

Voodoo seems to be working  as well as the tincture :drinking1. Foot feels good this a.m. I just can't run on it yet. I went bike riding yesterday & that felt like a complete waste of time :sad2:. Maybe, like my running, I'm just not trying hard enough?

I don't see how I'm going to run that full marathon on the 30th...I don't think I've run past 13 miles since the NYC Marathon. Attempting anything like this coming off an injury probably wouldn't be a good idea. :sad1: Oh well. Here's to blowing tons of $$ on entry fees on races I'll never run!!

Have a good 4th, everyone. :yay:

What full do you have on the 30th?

Chester - So sorry to hear about Tracy's father and please let her know we're praying for him:grouphug:

Howard - Congrats on the 1/2:banana:

Judy - Congrats to Charlie as well and I hope this week flies by for you:thumbsup2

Colleen - Glad you had a nice vacation in SC:hippie:

Dave - Thanks for the link and glad to hear your Dad's situation seems to be working out for you:hug:

Jodi - Hoping you're not taking it out on Bruce in NYC today if your foot's not feeling fine:rolleyes1

CindyLou - Have a wonderful vacation:yay:

We took Lauren to Montreal to see Lady Gaga last weekend for an early birthday present. It was a grand time:goodvibes I've been getting out daily for some walk/running yet presently I'm confined to the couch watching the Tour De France since I've been puking my guts out for the last day:scared: Brendan turns 20 on the 5th and Lauren turns 13 on the 10th so I have a busy week on tap:love:

Have a Happy 4th:cool2:

Sara, so sorry you're not feeling well. Are meds causing this?

Happy Birthday to your crew!

Sara~ I hope you feel better sweetie. I hope it's a passing thing and not a normal thing to endure. Glad you have a busy week ahead of you and that you are walking/running a bit. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.:hug:

Jodi~ Please listen to the Doctors and don't go pushing things too fast. You need to let the joint calm down and truly heal before putting 26.2 miles of every other foot-strikes on it. Sit back and Tincture yourself appropriately this weekend. :drinking1

Dave~ Glad to hear your Blogging is keeping you busy and happy. You are certainly the BBOC (Big BOT On Campus) when it comes to Blogging.

Mike~ Keep up the running buddy. You are inspiring. I might get out there tomorrow morning early if I can for 5 or 6. No promises. :rolleyes1

I need to put together my training plan for MCM. It'll include the Phila. Rock-n-Roll Half in September and the Ridgefield (CT) half in early October.

I have decided to run a 5K this Thursday at 6:45 PM. It's the Ulster Project 5K sponsored by Catherine Rooney's Irish Pub in Wilmington. There is always a brewski awaiting the adult finishers :drinking1 (Guiness or some other brew). I've run it a couple times in the past few years. I am hoping for weather suitable for a 5K. The course is pretty challenging, and the finish is up hill about 200 yards. :headache:

Have a Very Happy and Safe July 4th tomorrow and if you are off on Monday (like us) -- Enjoy the extra day of leisure.

Hi to Chester, Tracy, Judy, Colleen, Cindy, Matt, Mike, Kathy, CindyLouBQ, et. al.

:grouphug:

Howard

Hope everyone had a nice 4th. We spent the day on the lake yesterday, kids had too many sweets and had trouble sleeping last night and had to be up at 6:00 for swim this morning, so today is a laid back day of movies!:thumbsup2

Howard, oh my, is it time to start thinking about training for MCM?:eek:I guess I should look at a calendar.

Happy belated 4th of July BOTs!!!

I see from FB that some of you guys got out and did some running today. I got in 4 miles at 7AM and it was already 80 degrees. Hope you are all staying cool this week!

Lou

Hi Lou! Et al. I too hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th weekend! :cool2:

Chester & Tracy~ I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I'll keep everyone in my prayers.

Colleen~ It is getting close to full on training for MCM. I have seen others already beginning their training for Goofy. :scared1: So, more than likely I'll have a plan ready this week. I still have my plan from the 2008 and 2009 MCM so I'll more than likely have to recreated that and use it again.

_______________________________________________

I managed to get out yesterday for a run. It was already 90 degrees and 46% Relative Humidity :headache: by the time I got out around 9:00 AM.

Miles: 8.0
Time: 1:15:03
Pace: 9:23
Splits: 10:00, 9:38, 8:44, 9:02, 9:29, 9:12, 9:10, and 9:49.

I signed up for a 5K this Thursday evening at 6:45 PM in Wilmington. It is the Catherine Rooney's Pub 5K which benefits the Ulster Project Delaware group. I am hoping for some miracle of cooler temps and low humidity, but it most likely won't be happening. This will be my first 5K of the year (hard to believe).

Have a great short week of work and/or pool time!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hey Bots!

Chester & Tracy - So sorry about your loss. Thinking about you, Tracy, hang in there.

Kudos to you guys getting out there running in the heat!! :scared1: That's heinous. Nice job on that 8, Howard.:thumbsup2

Dave - Nice to see you on here. Glad you're running again! Keep up your DIS stuff, it's great!

Colleen - Have the kids come down from their sugar high yet? :dance3: Start training for MCM NOW!

Sara - Glad to see you hear as well!! How goes it up there? Sounds like your busy planning birthday parties. Are you still hurling?

Lou - Any chance you can sneak down to MCM & be back in time to trick or treat?

CindyLouBQ - Haven't seen you on here since we met in FFLD.............popcorn::

Mindy - Are you out there?

Mathy - What about you guys? Still around?

Judy - Pffft.

Question for you guys. Still haven't run yet, making sure this thing heals correctly. I was wondering, if the foot feels OK in time for this marathon on 7/30, would you run it? Times & pride be damned? Then there is always the chance I'd have to drop out if the foot acted up. Not sure I want a DNF on my list of accomplishments. There would be practically no training at all leading up to this....I know that statement is begging for some snarky remarks, don't do it . Looking for some input.

Jodi~ I am the wrong person to ask I guess, but here goes. I was in major pain prior to the Fairfield Half, my knee was killing me majorly and I was limping around. I wasn't about to collect my shirt and watch everyone else finishing my race. I said to Cam - "I'll run until I can't run and then I'll walk back if I have to." or something VERY similar.

I had to DNS the 2009 Caesar Rodney Half because my (then undiagnosed broken foot) foot hurt really bad. It was a deal breaker and I knew it. I sucked it up. For Fairfield, I wasn't ready to concede. I'm glad I didn't.

So, my most likely poor advice is to run it, but to pull out if you can't take the pain and/or you really injure it. That may have worked for me in Fairfield, but you need to make the call for how you feel for a MARATHON. That's a long way!

I hope someone else gives you better advice than that. My advice aside, I don't want to see you hurt it further, or run on it before it's 100%.

Howard

Jodi: I would vote to give it a try with the understanding that if it really acts up you would allow yourself to stop and not feel bad about it. As long as the foot doesn't hurt walking on it and seems reasonably ok prior to the race I'd try to run/walk/hobble and see how it goes. Probably not the best advice but the stubbornness factor has to come into play at some point and I think for myself if I didn't try I'd always wonder "what if..."

Chester and Tracy:

Not too much around here. I've finally stopped whining about my tooth and have decided to just go with it and wait to see how I heal. The dentist was marginally optimistic that I have enough bone left there for an implant but I may need a second bone graft-- time will tell. In the meantime I'm contenting myself on the fact that the pain is mostly gone and I can eat crunchy stuff again popcorn::

We did a hot, sweaty 5K on the 4th where both Butch and I finished about 2 min slower than we had hoped but had fun. DD6 walked a 1 miler with her grandma and they seemed to enjoy the event. I'm officially starting my training for the DL Half following a plan modified from Runners World-- we'll see how it goes.

We've been spending lots of time in the pool trying to keep cool from this crazy heat wave. We leave this weekend for Disney-- bizarre to think it will be cooler in FL than NJ :confused3
