Baking a rum cake for teachers at school...

I personally don't trust a person that bakes an alcohol-laced cake and serves it to teachers on school grounds. I don't think they'd get a parent of the year award either.

Make a chocolate cake. Everyone, well most, love chocolate.

Well there is a difference between baking a cake with rum and soaking a cake with rum Most pound cakes (at least most Irish poiund cakes) are made with whiskey and most people wouldn't balk at that.

It's one of those cakes that you make and then don't want to share... Seriously last time I made it I made it when I knew DH would be away and WHOOPS kids can't have it because there's Amaretto in it so it was ALL MINE!!!!!!!!!

Just checked this out....this cake sounds better then my Kahula chocolate cake!! Thanks for sharing this recipe! My DH and I love amaretto....I better bake a "test" cake first and see if it's good enough for him

I would suggest something different for a school. With so many zero policies about everything these days, I wouldn't take a chance.

If you were serving it in your home to teachers that would be one thing, but since you are serving it at a school, there could be lots of issues with that.

Well - there's no way of knowing if the first cake was a fluke or not so I strongly suggest making a second test cake before "Going public" with it

Well, in the name of keeping a good marriage....I believe you are right. There should be more then one or two "test" cakes.

I have my recipe at home and will post it tonight. If you like kahula and chocolate...it's really quite good. I suggest you test a few of these cakes also

I don't know, all this sharing of alcohol cakes might make us un-trustworthy

Relax folks. It's a cake!!!!!!Most teachers I know are in desperate need of anything with booze in it. I would label it, though, and that way you are covered if anyone chooses not to eat it for that reason alone.

If you are concerned, try to come up with something else. No need to make a stink over food.

For what it's worth, I would probably bring it and label it. There are a lot of people with allergies, and although I am not one of them, I think it's nice when people label their homemade goodies with ingredients.

Now, it would be some party if another parent was brining jello shots!

I would LOVE that recipe!!!! My rum cake really reeks of rum. I work in a salon and if I take one to work I have to keep it closed up or the whole place smells like rum! YUM!

I'd bake something else also...who knows if you will turn out to be "that mom" that they talk about LOL Most schools don't allow any food or drink with alcohol in it.

That's what I was thinking, I don't drink so never really looked that close at policy but if I recall, NO alcohol of any sort can be on school grounds.

Even if you are renting the school out for an adult function, no alcohol can be served, even if it's Saturday night with no kids in sight.

And frankly, if there is even a touch of alcohol in it, I wouldn't eat it (I would be passed out -- Nyquil does me in and that's without a full dose! ). If you were going to do it, definitely label it so people know but I just can't imagine this would be acceptable on school grounds here due to the regulations of no alcohol.

My Mom use to give my teachers (Nuns) Rum cake & Fruit cake ALL THE TIME!

They loved it!

I would like those recipes please. They are nice to take to holiday parties. I do a trifle with Kaluha mixed in chocolate pudding. I could eat the whole thing!!

Seriously, this is an awesome 1 bowl recipe and it's slap-your-mama good!!

1 package Devil's food cake mix
1 box instant chocolate pudding (5.9 oz.)
3/4 cup Kahlua
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour (or use Pam for Baking) a Bundt pan.

Mix ingredients and bake for 45-47 minutes. Serve with French Vanilla Cool-Whip or ice cream

Well, it's not exactly serving alcohol as someone said. But never-the-less, I decided against the rum cake. I have to come up with something else that's easy to make, easy to transport and not messy to eat. Thanks everyone! Carry on with the Kahlua cake!!!

Isn't there a rum imitation available on the market? I wouldn't bake a rum cake, why risk it??
