Called some friends that love WDW to see how there trip went. I could tell by the sound of her voice is wasn't good. They were so disapointed. Said the CM's seemed in shell shock. Said food at CBR was poor and there meal at Brown Derby ( there favorite) didn't even come close to the trip before. Said the parks didn't look clean. Witnessed a small girl struggling to get off a ride and the two CM's watching wouldn't help her. She had to go over and help the child. They just stood there. In the past they would be planning there next trip soon as they got home. not this time. They said they weren't even sad when it was time to go home. hope this isn't a growing trend.

That's depressing and discouraging! I'm sorry your friends didn't have a magical time.

Not to defend the CMs in this situation...

but with this years spring break crowds...shell shock may be a very good term for how the CMs feel right now.

Can you imagine thinking to yourself that Spring Break won't be as bad as usual, and then have mandatory park closing during the season? Add that Disney probably had fewer staff than usual, and well...you get shell shock.

In these situations...If I must lay blame...it tends to be on the people in suits, not the rank and file.

We are going in june. I really look forward to WDW each year. I don't want to come home feeling like they did. It would crush me.

I agree with the upkeep. I found many small problems I had not noticed in the past more at the resorts.

Your friends went at one of the worst times of year to go. It's just as crowded as the dreaded holidays and there's not even any holiday decorations to take your mind off of it. My friend took his kids, aged 11 and 7 to WDW this same week last year and now his kids have no desire to return -- These are really good, patient kids too. Can you imagine a child not wanting to go back to WDW?

I believe if you're reasonably prepared go into something looking for the bright side, it will shine through. It's quite possible your friends weren't in a "Disney frame of mind" to start with with the economy and other things. For example: I know when we were sick with the flu it was so easy to see the negative everywhere - as we started feeling better, the magic started to shine through.

As for the 2 CMs not noticing the little girl who needed help, sounds like they were caught up in chit-chat and actually were not doing their jobs. That could happen anyplace, anytime.

WDW is many different things to those that visit.

For DW & I, the parks are just a small part of the adventure. Sure we like to visit them all, but we also love to visit the different resorts, ride the monorail around, the boats to here and there, relaxing at the resorts, etc. We don't see WDW as a "Park Place", but as a destination of relaxation and a break for the everyday experience.

Even during spring break, there is a low profile place to be! That is the magic!

Wonder if the cut back going on has anything to do with it.

It sounds as though your friends may have been in a funk.
Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood, I tend to notice things that reinforce my mood.
