Bad sportsmanship... really bad

Of course NBC's numbers go up..... when you have large market teams in the playoffs, your numbers go up. Put two small market teams in the finals and they'll have trouble selling ad time.

Hockey sucks on TV because the puck doesn't show up well and not enough people understand the game....and *gasp* that doesn't really change because people don't really care.

And be as critical of the other sports all you want.... they are all three still far more popular than hockey and will probably always be more popular than hockey. Hell, women's college softball is more popular than hockey.

Actually the season overall was up and all rounds of the play-offs were up except the final (with two large market teams playing).

There is more to watching a game than watching the guy with the puck, same as with football and basketball. Baseball is the only one that you only have to watch one or two players at a time to see what is going on.

I don't disagree with the other sports being more popular than hockey as the have always been played throughout your country and people simply don't learn the game. Talk to the people who have learned the game and they will tell you how great a game it is to watch.

That being said, this coach needs to be suspended for at least one year and if he has a history, it should be longer if not a lifetime ban.

Wish the video ended up with the kid slashing that coaches throat with his skate.

That was a really low thing to have done. He should be ashamed of himself and Karma will come back in full circle!:sad2:

See, even you get caught up in the insignificant details.... which is it, that he did it to a child? That he did it to a child out in the open. That he did it in a full stadium?

Would you feel differently if he did it to a grown man? A woman? I suppose it would be worse if he did it to a little girl and or a dog.

Look, I am not suggesting I don't understand the animosity people feel towards this person, but I just think it's ridiculous to ban someone for life from something like this. That's a punishment that doesn't fit the circumstance in my view.

I see nothing insignificant about the fact an adult chose to assault a child in front of a stadium full of people. It shows his complete lack of selfcontrol and considerable poor judgement.

The animosity comes from him being unfit to coach. What is so hard for you to see about that? Coaches aren't supposed to attack players, not from other teams or their own team.

I'd like to see him do that to an adult player and watch the rest of the team beat his *** to a pulp on the ice. Then he'd get what he truly deserved. He's a coward and a creep for "sucker punching" that kid.

Hardly anybody watches much professional hockey anymore. Go figure.

I beg to differ. We watched it all the time in Canada and numbers have gone up in the US.

I was curious so I checked the numbers for the most watched sporting events of 2011 and 2010. Not one NHL hockey game made the top 100 either year. By comparison both golf and horse racing made the list each year. I never would have guessed that.

I couldn't care less what you watched in Canada, and saying the numbers have gone up in the US is ridiculous. 4 people used to watch, now 6 do. More people would rather watch the "fireplace channel" than watch hockey. The NHL is inexplicably still considered one of the "four major professional sports" in America. It doesn't hold a candle to football, baseball, or basketball. It's awful television viewing, and in a 2012 poll of men ages 21-45, when asked their preference, 84% said they would rather watch paint dry, chew glass, go to the ballet, go vegan, go without beer for 3 months, and get a poodle before they watched a minute of a hockey game.

Was that poll done in one region of the country, or all over? Becaue I'm thinking it might depend on the region.
