Bad sportsmanship... really bad

Nice role model they have there. He should be fired, reported to police, and banned from the rink. If he has this bad of sportsmanship as a coach, I'd hate to see his behavior in the stands. Shameful. I hope the injured person's family sues him and the league that thinks he should still be able to work there. I rarely vote for people to be sure happy, but this guy deserves it.

Why is he ever allowed back? This isn't a blow up between coaches. He assaulted a child, after a game, during the handshake! Incredible! The kid's parents ought to press charges.

I'd heard that Canadain officials were looking into pressing assault charges.

I agree 100%. That is a terrible thing to do to someone, let alone an adult to a child!

is there another angle on the video?? I"m not really sure if he was even looking at the kid - he seemed to be looking at the other coach & not paying attention to the kid - could be an accident

It looked to me like he was aiming for the big kid at the end. And what you don't see on this edited version is him flipping the middle finger at the crowd when they boo him for tripping a child.

Ah, I assume that this was what they were talking about on the morning talkshow this morning. I missed the first bit, the host was saying that these sorts of incidents why some leagues now do the handshake BEFORE the game.

To me it looks as if he stopped and kicked backwards into the kid's knee, making him lose his balance and fall....

There is no way that was an accident.

The child that he tripped has a broken wrist. the coach was suspended for 13 games.

13 games??!?! I can't understand why the hockey league would ever let this man anywhere near children again.
Because he wins games, would be my guess.

I've seen parents themselves excuse all sorts of what I'd call horrific behavior as long as the coach brings home the wins.

So it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

at our 7-year-old baseball game the other day one of the players on the opposing team kicked the shin of each of our players.

Not only are we supposed to be teaching them the mechanics of baseball but also how to be good sports.

I doubt that... Suspensions like that are handed out much higher up the hierarchy than the local level that would care about the coaches Win-Loss ratio. If the BCAHA operated like our state's MAHA, suspensions would be determined at a district level within the province.

The guy's a low-life. I've seen plenty of antics in hockey handshake lines, but not from a coach. I'm sure the video also doesn't show the "parents committee" that likely met him in the parking lot afterwards.

There is no way that was an accident.
Correct, that doesn't "just happen".

I'm not defending the coach....

The link doesn't provide the entire story.

I'm not defending the coach.....

The kid allegedly scored a goal and showed his ***, taunted the other team, etc....

I'm not defending the coach....

This is a sports where, in the professional ranks, goons are the norm and fighting is allowed, if not encouraged.

I'm not defending the coach...

When a player on the other team acts like a sorry sack of ****, it is understandable that you might get irritated and want to exact some measure of revenge.

I'm not defending the coach....

The better thing to do would have been to talk with the other coach and/or the referee and let them know that your team didn't appreciate the antics.

I'm not defending the coach....

I never would have been physical with a kid, but I'm not going to sit here and act like I wouldn't grin a little if some little ******* didn't "get his" after acting the fool on the ice, field, court, etc.

I'm not defending the coach.

I hear you... at best that might explain the light punishment.

Sorry, I'm disputing that one... You can find plenty of YouTube videos of parents/coaches behaving badly at other youth sporting events that don't draw life-time suspensions. His career wasn't spared just because they shrugged and said "It's Hockey... a blood sport". This is like the ol' "People only go to auto races because they just want to see the wrecks!" meme. It's a view mostly held by "outsiders".

I get you aren't defending the coach but would you be "grinning a little" if the kid who was being a bit of a tool (in a non violent way) on the ice during the game BROKE HIS WRIST when he "got his" from an adult?

Cause that's what happened.

No, but I think the coach likely argued that it wasn't his intent to injury the player and it was more of a freak outcome.

They should.

Ah, even nicer. What a jerk.

He never intended to break the wrist, but he did intend to injure the player...that's what tripping does. Causes injury. That particular argument would be a fail, if he were to use it.
