I have 3 children, and with each one, I have recurring nightmares about them. Not all the time, like when they were infants, but enough that it hsakes me up. Each kid has a different nightmare. My oldest DS I always dream I am leaving him alone. I always leave the house without him not realizing he is home alone, until I am halfway to my destination, then I can't get the car turned around fast enough. With my DD, I have always dreamt that I lost her. My nightmare would be that I am frantically looking for her, she is just gone. and with my youhgest DS, I have always dreamt that he slipps under the ater in the bath, and I cannot get him up, he keeps slipping under.

Well, I haven't had any of these nightmares in awhile, until the other night. I dreamt that we all got on the DCL ship, and we were all checking it out, we went to the cabin, got our Castaway Cay towels in the stateroom, and heading down to the pool, we realize my 5 yo DD is missing. So now starts the frantic search of the ship. In my nightmare, I can't believe how big the ship is, and I am afraid to look anywhere for fear I will miss her. All the CM's try to help, but they keep telling me they are busy. I am going out of my mind...in my nightmare.I woke up shaking.

Does Disney have a protocol for lost children on the ship?

i've heard from several people that when you dream bad things about people it means good luck for that person your dreaming about

Maybe you would benefit from setting up a baby monitor in your room and one of the kid's rooms so that you have the feeling of always knowing where they are. It might get you restful sleep.

I was baby sitting in the parks one day and it was time for me to bring the two girls who I was baby sitting back to their mother and my mother. Well, I could not find them anywhere in the park...no where! Soon enough the girls started crying and a cast member came to help...they put us in the computer so that if our parents where looking for us than they would see where we were. Anyway it took me a while to realize that mom had a cell phone I could call :) Anyway the cast members were very good at keeping the girls calm, and also keeping me, a VERY distressed baby-sitter, calm. :faint:

Anyway, I am sure that there is a similar system on the ship, not to mention they have an intercom that they could contact everyone around the ship on and tell them that there is a child missing or as Disney cast members like to tell the children , a lost parent:p

If it's any consolation to you, my 7 yo DD got lost on the Magic in 2002, and every CM involved was very thorough in helping her and us locate her.

When she and her 9 yo playmate accidentally separated, she went back to the stateroom (of course, we weren't there), and a housekeeper noticed she was panic-stricken. He escorted her to Guest services and they had her remain in the office while they paged us.

We'd told her to look for a CM if she's ever lost again.

I think your nightmares and fears of your children getting lost is typical of many of us (myself included) parents.

I'm sure they would be extremely helpful in case this would happen.

You might set up a meeting area for any occassion you might get separated. This happened with our then ds-11. I wasn't worried but rather frustrated because we kept roaming the ship in search of him. Well, he was using his head and met us at the theater because he knew we suppose to watch the show together.

I have many weird dreams. I have only had one about DCL, it was just the other night. I was suddenly checking in for our cruise. I said, "I don't remember paying the balance in April, but we are here so I must have!"

I was really bummed when I woke up!

Also, when you first check into the kids club, she will be issued a wrist band. Coded into that information is everything they need to know so even if a very young child who didn't know how to find their way back to the cabin could still locate their "lost parents".

They are also very accomodating about paging the parent in an emergency that has nothing to do with your children. When my husband got back on the ship at one of the ports his card must not have been swiped carefully enough. We were about ready to sail and I get a call asking me if I know where my husband is. Now we got back on the ship together and he was just up getting some air on deck but I was still a bit panicky. I had this image of the ship sailing without him. Well he is always the one to carry the pager so the kids club was willing to page him to have him return to the cabin immediately. He did and called to say that yes, he was on board.

Not really sure how my story relates now that I've written it, but what the heck, I'm leaving it on there!

The very first night I was on the Magic I was standing at the Customer Service desk talking to one of the CM's when another CM came up to the counter with a very distraught passenger about 4 yrs old.

It seems her mom had gotten lost.

The desk knew immediately who she was, as the Missing mom had contacted another CM who had called the front desk.

The little girl was kept there at the desk, while the Mom was summoned to get her.

There was quite obvciously a protcol as to what to do.

Co-ordination & coopertation were quite evident.

Problem solved.

Sleep tight.

Well, I totally understand what you mean about the bad dreams about your children... I do the same here although they aren't recurring/same type dreams like you seem to have for each child.

Your post has me thinking though- what about those with children that do not sign their children up for the clubs/labs for whatever reasons? Maybe they just have no intentions of using it at all. If only the children signed up there have the wristbands- how do they ever know if the child is with their parents? Not a huge issue except......
what about... do they have any system at all to check that children are with their parents when getting off the ship at ports of call? Even with the wristband- it doesn't do any good if they don't check, right? So how do you KNOW for sure that your child isn't being taken off the ship by someone else?
Ooh, I don't like that scary thought. :(

On our first family trip to WDW with my sister and her kids her youngest was 6. We instructed all the kids (the oldest was 12) to immediately find a CM if they lost us (2 aunts, 1 mother or 2 grandparents).
The youngest was the best of the whole family. She could recite to any CM her name, where she was staying and with whom.
She had the routine down pat. Thank goodness we never lost any of the kids but a few of the adults were temporarily among the missing.
Of all the places I go I have seen the 'lost parent' scenario at WDW work very well. The CMs all know just waht to do with a lost child so telling your kids to find a CM if the parents 'wander off' is the best idea. ::yes::

Thanks for the replys. I am feeling better about it. I am sure Disney is more than helpful in case one of the kids gets lost, but I am going to have them memorize how to get to the stateroom, and they will each have a room key, and they KNOW how to use that! LOL. So, if they can't find a CM right away, they will be instructed to go back to the stateroom and STAY THERE until we get there.

I know they will not have a problem learning how to return to the stateroom, when we stayed at the Beach Club Villas in November, I had to follow them the first few days. All those hallways are confusing! LOL But they knew exactly how to go!

I've had bad dreams (night and day!) about something happening to my kids too. My latest one is someone falling overboard on the cruise, either on deck somewhere or off our verandah. This is a variation on a recurring dream about one of our DDs falling from a high place while we stand helplessly watching. Probably because all I ever think about anymore is our cruise! LOL

It does not feel good to wake up in the middle of the night after that type of dream, so I feel for you. I generally force myself to think reasonably that thousands of kids manage to cruise on ships everyday without falling overboard being a huge problem. Silly as it sounds, it also helps me a bit to plan out what would be the best "rescue" method in the event it actually happened. I'm determined not to let anything stop me from enjoying this cruise, however!
