BostonRob said:Personally I think all smiley's should be abolished. I hate them. I find it far more interesting when people use WORDS to express themselves. That said, I will not be signing the petition. I don't think kids a smiley in the DIS board is ever going to affect a kid's choice to pick up a cigarette.
I feel like I'm being real negative today.
is seeming to promote littering and not recycling. That smilie is clearly showing no regard for the enviroment. He is just carelessly throwing his bottle in back of him and not in a recycling bin. Who wants to join me in protesting that one??? Anyone? C'mon!

While we're at it, let's removeas it teaches kids to not wear helmets.
And this onebecause it teaches them to destroy property

too muchcan give skin cancer
this one promotes being a couch potato...let's bring on physical activity!!
In all seriousness, while I understand your concern, an emoticon isn't going to teach someone anything. I highly doubt that when a kid is facecd with the decision to smoke, they're going to think "well I remember seeing the emoticon on the DIS, so I'm going to go for it!" Not likely.
Love your post! Ummm...just have to add that the "emoticon" is still a smilie in my book!

But all who posted not in favor of my argument, I am not against you. I am sure you all have a good argument behind your statement. If you are going to make fun of my thread, then please don't post. And once again, you should not be afraid to post because of fear of discrimination, just please do it in a positive mannor. Thank you.

I may not agree with your opinion, but I certainly do admire you for your drug-free stance and your ability to speak your mind without being disrespectful of others. If you stick around here long enough, you will find that many people--much older than you--lack the ability to be assertive in their opinions without being aggressive, so you are certainly ahead of the game in that arena!

Another thing you will find, though, is that when you post a thread, it becomes public property in a sense--people will respond whether or not they agree with you, and over that you have no control. It's the nature of a public message board, and as long as the posts violate no DIS regs, they will remain--it doesn't work to ask people to not post if they have disagreeing viewpoints. I've been here 5 years--I'll tell you, it ain't gonna happen!![]()
I hope I didn't offend you with anything I posted, and do hope you stay around and enjoy all the DIS has to offer. I think you're a very intelligent, interesting and well-spoken person, and that you have a lot to offer us all.
Best wishes to you, LuLu, and keep your chin up.![]()
