I think the OP is a pre-teen/teen. I remember seeing the OP post on the VMKids board. Not sure if that makes a difference in the way we are all responding...

Daisy_duck- So are you joining?

daystar- Thanks so much for joining!

maddhatir- Thank you for expressing you feelings. I know people have different opinions and I respect that.

LuluLovesDisney- Thanks so much for joining!

Just to clear things up, I don't have kids. And if I did, they would certainly know not to do/try drugs. I am just fighting for what I believe in. I am petitioning against this because of the sake of kids whose parents have not taught them the dangers smoking causes. I respect everyones opinions, so you should respect mine.

That said, it's not the guy's responsibility to express sympathy for your grandfather.

heeeeyyy- I'm a girl---a chick--- a female--- a babe-- BUT NOT A DRAMA QUEEN though :sad2:

i am not one to cause DRAMA-- actually i dont have enough energy for drama-- so let me explain to the OP what i mean when i say- "Don't tell me what to do".....

i think i am looking at the bigger picture and i am looking at this in a more political way-- to me its not a smiley-- it is someone telling me what i can watch or listen to- etc. that is why i am so upset--

i am leaving now- :tiptoe:

but not before i say that JOHNNY DEPP IS :smokin: :rotfl2: and i am just

POLITICALLY INCORRECT AND MORALLY IMPAIRED! and happy as a clam.

PEACE LOVE AND MICKEY MOUSE

Agree!!!!

I do agree with you that he ( :dancer: ) is creepy! LOL

And just to put this out there, I think this guy ( :drinking: ) is drinking water. It doesn't look like an alcoholic beverage to me. It looks more like of bottle of water.

I just lit up because I saw this :smokin:

I also rode my scooter without a helmet b/c of this :moped:

I choked on a kernal b/c of this popcorn::

Oh no! now I'm addicted to coffee :surfweb:

Ok everyone is taking this way to far out of proportion. If you think that a certain smilie leads to certain problems, make your own thread with a petition to rid of that smilie. Thank is what I did. Thanks to everyone who has posted and express their feelings.

HEHE yes, that is me also...Never one to be politically correct, or worry about your, mine, our *morals*. Hey I live in MA, the state that stepped up and allowed gay marriage! (no debates on that necessary).

I am glad that the OP and voiced their opinion later in the thread positively, even after the majority not agreeing with her. :thanks:

So now I am heading out for some good trip report reading popcorn:: (will this emoticon make me fat??? hehe)

Personally I think all smiley's should be abolished. I hate them. I find it far more interesting when people use WORDS to express themselves. That said, I will not be signing the petition. I don't think a smiley in the DIS board is ever going to affect a kid's choice to pick up a cigarette.

I feel like I'm being real negative today.

Don't worry, your not being negative. You are just expressing your opinion, which is a good thing. People should fell comfortable expressing their opinions without the fear of discrimination.

This thread is cracking me up! Why on earth do people get so bent out of shape about the stupidest things? I thought this board was to give advice about Disney trips, get help planning your trip, and learn how to make the most of your WDW trip? Oh the drama!

And you can add me to the 2% that has never ever even once smoked pot. Never even touched it. Neither has my husband. Didn't realize we made up such a small percentage of the worlds population. :rolleyes2

I know I'm personally bothered that :drinking: is seeming to promote littering and not recycling. That smilie is clearly showing no regard for the enviroment. He is just carelessly throwing his bottle in back of him and not in a recycling bin. Who wants to join me in protesting that one??? Anyone? C'mon! :rotfl2:

When I think of WDW...children are not the first things I think of, I rather remember the wonderful wedding and honeymoon I had there. As has been pointed out many times, WDW is a place for ALL ages...and so is the DIS. :thumbsup2

YMMV

That's your opinion..When i think of disney i think of the enjoyment my children and my family have a disney..I'm sorry you misunderstood..I never once said that it wasn't a place for everyone...This is my opinion and that is yours..

:dancer: i laugh every time i see him.
:drinking1 how many "drink around the world"?
 i never read the thread on the banana. what's wrong w him? he's funny.
johnny depp is :smokin:

everyone have a good evening. :tinker:

I am not sure why so many people are making a joke of my thread. I would never post anything to make you feel down. But all who posted not in favor of my argument, I am not against you. I am sure you all have a good argument behind your statement. If you are going to make fun of my thread, then please don't post. And once again, you should not be afraid to post because of fear of discrimination, just please do it in a positive mannor. Thank you.

Ummm, it's an emoticon.

While we're at it, let's remove :moped: as it teaches kids to not wear helmets.
And this one :badpc: because it teaches them to destroy property
:wizard: could teach witchcraft
too much :sunny: can give skin cancer
:happytv: this one promotes being a couch potato...let's bring on physical activity!!

In all seriousness, while I understand your concern, an emoticon isn't going to teach someone anything. I highly doubt that when a kid is facecd with the decision to smoke, they're going to think "well I remember seeing the emoticon on the DIS, so I'm going to go for it!" Not likely.

:rotfl: Love your post! Ummm...just have to add that the "emoticon" is still a smilie in my book! :teeth:

4theloveofdisney, thank you for posting.

LuLu, I'm taking from your signature that you're a teenager, or at the very least, quite younger than my 39 years of age. ;) I may not agree with your opinion, but I certainly do admire you for your drug-free stance and your ability to speak your mind without being disrespectful of others. If you stick around here long enough, you will find that many people--much older than you--lack the ability to be assertive in their opinions without being aggressive, so you are certainly ahead of the game in that arena! :)

Another thing you will find, though, is that when you post a thread, it becomes public property in a sense--people will respond whether or not they agree with you, and over that you have no control. It's the nature of a public message board, and as long as the posts violate no DIS regs, they will remain--it doesn't work to ask people to not post if they have disagreeing viewpoints. I've been here 5 years--I'll tell you, it ain't gonna happen! ;)

I hope I didn't offend you with anything I posted, and do hope you stay around and enjoy all the DIS has to offer. I think you're a very intelligent, interesting and well-spoken person, and that you have a lot to offer us all.

Best wishes to you, LuLu, and keep your chin up.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are extreamly kind and I appreciate that. I have a great deal of respect for you. You really lifted my spirits about this whole situation. Again, thanks.

May I just suggest that if someone has a child (or children) that are so easily influenced that they use a smilie as a role model, they probably shouldn't have unsupervised access to the internet, (or TV for that matter), at all!
