Backpacks in the parks??

I have been to Disney in 2007, 2010, and 2014... all three times you have to either purchase a locker at the front of the park OR take the item on the ride with you. There were no free lockers by the rides and you couldn't just leave the bag behind either.

There are now lockers by Kali River Rapids that are free for 2 hours.

We brought all backpacks on all rides with us at WDW including Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. At Kali they have a place for your pack in the middle of the ride. It is covered so it possibly may not get wet, ours never has. I did put my phone in a zip lock bag inside the backpack during rides that had water. The only thing we used the lockers for at the front of the park was to store changes of clothes. My granddaughters liked to wear their princess outfits to character meals and meet and greets. They then have the opportunity to change clothes.

I think the key is to not bring everything you might possibly need into the parks. Bring the "bare necessities" and enjoy not lugging stuff around:)

I have only ridden Kali once, in 2007. It's not a favorite of mine lol. Glad to know there are lockers now though!

I assume there's really no risk of the backpack falling out of the ride vehicle? Even on rollercoasters?

I put my backpack on the floor of the ride vehicle and loop a leg through the strap. I've never had a problem, even on Test Track. The one ride (7DMT) where I couldn't put it on the floor, I put it on top of the bar that comes down and tightened one of the straps around the bar. A CM told me to do that, and I didn't have any problems.

On Mission Space, there is a small bin in front of your seat under the console where you put your backpacks, purses, etc. It was just barely big enough for the day pack that I use.
