Back to Wonderland with a side of French Fries-New 3/15Mix up culture w/fun

I'm so sorry to hear about the stress in your life and your visit to the ER. I hope you are feeling better now, take your time with replies - and if needed, vent away here! :goodvibes

Your plans sound awesome. I like that you are really trying to get a good feel of the city and not trying to see too much in the time that you have.

Thanks Jordan...:goodvibes...I want everyone to have fun and soak in the atmosphere and not just feel I've rushed them from one site to another...:confused3

Can I come, too? I want to eat pastries and stroll through the Tuileries! Beautiful plans! Reading about them made me reminisce about my own trip to Paris when I was ten. :goodvibes

sure I can squeeze you in...;) What a lovely age for you to have gone...:goodvibes...I'll bet it made a big impression...

What a lovely lovely trip you have planned!

I love that there is a Remy tour, how fun will that be. And a little different :goodvibes

As much as I would adore the canal, I'd have to go with Versailles.

Thank you for the links, I'm not sure if that apple tart is in my Barefoot in paris book but I saved all of them to the recipie box and plan to do the apple tart for Gourmet Club as well. While I don't have to do dessert when it's at my house (which is good since I'm going Greek!) I ended up with dessert 2 weeks later so this saves me some recipie hunting!

I'm going to try the sole soon though.

Good cooking...I think you could definitely get away with less butter-her recipes are kind of butter rich...;-)

I thought the Remy tour would be kind of fun too...;)

I agree...I think Versailles it is...

Sounds wonderful! I only ever spent half a day in Paris and really need to get myself there for some exploring - it just always feel like this is something to be done with a boyfriend. Never happened with past ones and no one around at the moment...

Floss...you really should go...it is a great city to people watch...you don't have to have a boyfriend to go...take your sister or a friend or just go solo for a long weekend...:goodvibes

So happy you are feeling better  That is scary stuff...and yes feel free to vent here with your Dis family :grouphug:

Tracy

Is your suitcase large enough to fit a 5'9" woman?

;)

I cannot give any advice on these plans because I don't know ANYTHING about Paris; but they sound just lovely. I would loooooove to go to the Louvre. And to see Monet's large Water Lilies! Beautiful! I've seen the set at the Met and it made me just stop in my tracks and stare for quite a while. It was beauty and history rolled into one. :cloud9:

That makes it even better! Memories + good price!

Absolutely Brooke...I'll pack you with jackie...:lmao:

They really are beautiful...(Monet's paintings...:goodvibes)

Yes I love my $5 Moma snow globe ring...one of the best deals in NY...:lmao:

Lovely plans P! :goodvibes You are going to have such a wonderful trip! The Remy tour sounds cute...I just googled it :rotfl2: I remember seeing something maybe on the History channel regarding the sewers of Paris...actually very interesting! ;)
Your BC meal looked delicious! She is such an easy cook to watch :goodvibes I am famous for watching the shows and rarely cooking anything! :rotfl2:

Tracy
Hey Tracy:) -I am trying to incorporate ways to make connections for David and I thought the Remy tour would be fun...BC is an easy cook to watch...no diva...just really pretty easy to follow instructions for good food that always seems to turn out...:goodvibes

Ah Paris! YAY! This is going to be lovely.. eat crepes.. where oh where is EAT crepes?? Have you considered the catacombs? A bit macabre, but if you have seen Les Miserables.... Also a lovely neighborhood up by the church, called.... called... it will come to me something "coeur" I can't recall... It is Montmartre.... lovely place. anyhow we went there for a spell, and just walked about. Beautiful view... Basilica was gorgeous... do you know it?

These are excellent plans! Versailles, Disneyland Paris, just wonderful! :goodvibes I am only 5 4" -- can I fit in your suitcase??!! :rotfl:

Love Les Miserables...:goodvibes

Sacre Coeur...(sp) -the views are lovely...Montmarte is really charming once you get off the main square...loved the movie Amelie...took place in Monmartre...

Sure you can snuggle in the same suitcase at Jackie and
Brook...:lmao:

Sacre Coeur...and it is very beautiful. The view of Paris at your feet is just breathtaking. There is an area before you get to the cathedral/church/whatever you call it! where artists set up and will do a sketch of you and/or your family.

We had a guy from Denmark do ours. He especially wanted to sketch Clay because he wanted to work on drawing male faces. He did an excellent job! He also did one of me and Hannah together. He sketched me first and then had her come sit on my lap to sketch her. She was two at the time and was not interested in sitting still very long. He did a good job on me but everybody says Hannah doesn't really look like herself.

There is also a very lovely carousel below the cathedral/church/whatever you call it! Here's some of my pictures of Sacre Coeur and Monmartre:

Jill thanks for the lovely previews...gives me something to look forward to...:goodvibes

The views up at Sacre Coeur are gorgeous:cloud9:...I'd love to have sketches done...the last time we were there I got a little flustered because it was crowded with artists and tourists and some of the artists were a little aggressive for business...It sounds like you found a wonderful artist...what a lovely memory to have...:goodvibes

Jill, wonderful Paris pictures!

PPP, I remembered that I absolutely forgot that I meant to say that I think you ought to go to Versailles! I have never seen ist, but I think besides it being a building with a wow effect, castles like Versailles are an integral part of European history. And Versailles is the prototype for so many others. Also, I think it would give everyone a total different understanding of the French Revolution if you have seen it. I know you have seen it, but I agree that Emily would love it and I think David would find it interesting, too. And it will be a memory to keep!

I checked out the barefoot contessa btw, sounds really intersting. I think I need to do more real cooking again. :rolleyes1 I like a lot of English cook book writers, my two favourites are Nigella Lawson and Nigel Slater. And I think their style is quite similar. :goodvibes

Floss...I agree about Versailles...we are going to go there...I did see it but could absolutely see it again...I agree that it makes very really in a visual way some of the reasons behind the French Revolution...I'd also never got to see Marie Antoinette's "hamlet" and having seen the recent movie-I like to see that...I think both Emily and David would get something out of it...

Jill, beautiful pictures of Paris!!! Between you and Patricia, we will all be planning Paris trips soon! :rotfl:

Jackie- I already said you could come in my suitcase...:goodvibes

I'm happy to see you back! Hope the stress levels are getting a little more manageable:goodvibes

Since I tend to be claustrophobic, I call the outside pocket!!! That way I can stick my head out from time to time! :rotfl:

:lmao: And you are littler than me, so that works! I need the big interior. I'm 5'9"! But, you have to take pictures when you pop out, okay? Deal?

Can I go in the suitcase too?

:goodvibes

How tall are you? I think we can squeeze ya in! :thumbsup2

5'6 and a half (that half counts you know!) I can make myself really small though...years of practice as a child in the pre-seatbelt days and a family of 6 with very small cars....

:goodvibes

Since I am only 5'2", that will work! Can I borrow your camera to take the pics? :lmao:

We'll be like the clown car equivalent of a suitcase! :lmao:

Hi P!!! I hope all is well with you!

I was thinking of you today!! Are you snowed in?!

I'm finally all caught up and I'm so glad that you are ok...how scary that can be!!!

The itinerary for Paris looks wonderful...it's really making me want to visit there and that's not something I've wanted to do much in the past.
