Back to my Happy Place! FINAL UPDATE 6/28 - Pg. 20 Posts #291 & #292

A "Star" Studded Morning & The Disney Soda Fountain Shop

Well once again, we got up, ate a quick breakfast and headed to do our "Daily Oscar Check." I was so excited to see that the red carpet was now out!

DSC_0236.jpg

This was also a new change...

DSC_0238.jpg

While I was happy about the quick progress that was being made, I was really hoping to see the large, gold, Oscar statues before leaving Hollywood. That wasn't looking too promising since we were leaving later tonight... :worried:

Sadness aside, I quickly put on a happy face because Chris took my picture in front of the red carpet!!!

DSC_0239.jpg

Look...they added more signs!

DSC_0241.jpg

With our "Oscar check" aside, Chris and I had an exciting morning planned! Before leaving our hotel this morning, the staff informed us that Jennifer Aniston was getting her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the ceremony was taking place at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine at the W Hotel. Ummm......what? Remember that I'm just a "little bit" of a Friends' fan and I was just a "little" excited about getting to sit on the "couch?" Well, this about put me over the edge!!! Since the W wasn't too far from the Magic Castle, we decided to head over there to see what we could see! :woohoo:

It was fun to see some of the big sites along the way. Here is the Capitol Record's building...

DSC_0242.jpg

And here is the famous Pantages Theater...

DSC_0243.jpg

Before long, we made it to the W and found a decent spot next to 3 paparazzi. This was our view...

DSC_0244.jpg

DSC_0245.jpg

The paps assured us that we had a fantastic spot as long as none of the TV cameras set up right in front of us. Here are some of the crews with all of their equipment...

DSC_0246.jpg

Well, unfortunately, that very thing happened, but we decided to stay put with the increasing crowds. :crowded: It was interesting talking with the paps. We were asking them lots of questions about their jobs and they told us that even though they are "vilified" in the media, they get a lot of their information from the celebrities themselves or their PR people. Some celebrities are even on the payroll of the agency that the paps work for and are required to tell them where they go. Interesting, huh? After speaking with these nice men, I guess I don't have as much empathy for the stars anymore since they seem to have a hand in their own destiny.

Before the show began, Jennifer's father, John Aniston, found his seat.

DSC_0248.jpg

Soon, excitement started to fill the crowd as Jennifer and some of her celebrity friends made their way to the stage. The screams were getting louder and the photographers' flashes were going crazy.

Jen finally made it up on the stage, along with two of her costars from her new movie, Wanderlust.

DSC_0263.jpg

Jen's costars, Kathryn Hahn and Malin Akerman, both made speeches. Although I admire them both as actors, I didn't think their speeches were all that fantastic.

DSC_0267.jpg

During the speeches, a tour bus passed by the W and a woman yelled out, "I love you, Jen!" Jen didn't miss a beat. She smiled, yelled out, "I love you, too!", and went right back to listening to the ceremony.

DSC_0277.jpg

DSC_0284.jpg

Up next, was Jen's friend, Adam...as in Adam Sandler! Chris and I were so happy...we just love him!!! :goodvibes

DSC_0291.jpg

As in typical Adam fashion, his speech was over-the-top and so hilarious. He had everyone in stitches! :lmao:

DSC_0297.jpg

I love that he doesn't let the whole "Hollywood thing" go to his head.......everyone is all dressed up and he shows up in a T-shirt! He just wants to stay true to himself and I applaud him for that! :thumbsup2

DSC_0303.jpg

Finally, Jen was presented with a couple of awards and they declared it Jennifer Aniston day in Hollywood!

It was then time for the actress herself to make a speech. Jen was actually very humble and gracious about getting her star. I thought she did a really nice job with her speech. :thumbsup2

DSC_0313.jpg

At the conclusion of her speech, Chris and I jetted out through the crowd. We had been getting bumped and shoved throughout the ceremony and we couldn't see the star ceremony at all due to the camera crews directly in front of us. We were thrilled with what we did see and the pictures we were able to capture. So, we figured it was a good time to leave and beat the crowds out of the relatively small space. ::yes::

After a fantastic start to our day, we were hungry and ready to get some lunch. I took a couple of pictures as we made our way back into the heart of Hollywood.

DSC_0317.jpg

DSC_0318.jpg

Look! We made it to the Disney Soda Fountain Shop! :earboy2:

DSC_0350.jpg

Check out the display out front!

DSC_0319.jpg

Here's the entrance! We couldn't believe how empty it was! Just a couple of days earlier, there was a line out the door. I guess we picked a good day and time to visit! :goodvibes

DSC_0320.jpg

I was so excited to sit down and order! We chose to eat in this spot because it seemed a little more fun than at one of the tables.

DSC_0321.jpg

Check out the cute menu!

DSC_0322.jpg

After much indecision and a little help from our server, we finally made a decision on what to order. Here is Chris waiting for our food!

DSC_0323.jpg

We still pretty much had the place to ourselves so I took a little walk around and browsed the Disney merchandise. Looking up, I noticed the Disney vault...

DSC_0324.jpg

I just loved the gumball machine...

DSC_0325.jpg

Within no time at all, our food arrived and we were definitely hungry! Chris ordered a chicken ranch wrap which he said was outstanding.

DSC_0326.jpg

I had a turkey ciabatta sandwich which was fantastic as well.

DSC_0327.jpg

Of course we had to get dessert too, since that is the soda shop's specialty. We were a bit full from lunch, so we decided to split a sundae. I took a picture and our server said, "Wait! Erase that! If I had known you were taking a picture, I would have done the whipped cream better!" :rotfl2: I didn't think the whipped cream looked bad in the first place, but here is the version our server was happy with! He even gave us two cherries! And yes, it was as good as it looks!

DSC_0328.jpg

We were so glad that we took the time to visit the Disney Soda Fountain Shop. The food was delish and it was such a cute little place! :goodvibes

As we walked out, we noticed the star at the entrance. It made us smile knowing that we would be heading there later in the evening.

What an exciting day we'd had so far!

Up Next: Hollywood Museum & Kimmel!

wow! Can I have your autograph~ :cool1: You got to hobnob with the real papparazzi! So amazing to be that close to Jennifer, and to observe all the behind the scenes stuff.

The soda fountain is so cute - I didn't realize they served meals, too. Looks delish! You have had an unbelievable trip already and you haven't even got to DL yet! I'm looking forward to the rest of your trip!

Oh, you so hit the jackpot on your trip getting to see Jennifer Aniston receive her star!!! So COOL!!! What a highlight of your already fantastic trip!!! Very interesting that a lot of the stars tell the paparazzi where they are headed and such...

Lunch at the Soda Fountain looks great! Did you resist buying any souvenirs there?

Disneyland in the evening? Really? I can't wait!!! :goodvibes

OMG, OMG, OMG ... yeah, that is really all I can say about your experience with Jennifer Aniston!!!! Oh yeah, and the Soda Fountain looks pretty fantastic too :rotfl:

Ok so I just got back from going to Cali two weeks ago. We went to Santa Monica Pier and just had a great time people watching. We ate at Bubba Gumps. Yum.
We also went to Malibu and stayed in Calibasses. Such a fun time my bestie and I had. We only had 3 days but we made the best of it and visited friends.
So it was fun looking at your pics and remembering our fun time too.
The small tour seemed like a great time though. Wow that car and store were over the top $$$$$$$$. Walk in you are charged yikes.
What a nice way to start your day with Jenn and Disney fountain. So jealous.

OHMYGOSH!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe you got to see Jen's star ceremony - I'm SO jealous... but very happy for you guys!!! :goodvibes What an amazing experience! Cannot wait to hear all about Disneyland!!! :cloud9:

Hi Lynne :)

I felt like reading a TR during my lunchbreak today, and as my DH and I dreaming on a DL trip in a few years time I thought a DL trip report might help.

Well I'm so glad I made that decision! :goodvibes:

I've read your whole report so far and it's wonderful. :)

I did a semester at UCLA in 2005 and my DH and I (when he was still just my BF) had a Vegas/LA vacation in 2008. So it's been lovely re-visiting LA through your TR as it's been a while since I've been there.

I am VERY excited for you to get to DLR! Looking forward to the next updates!

Now don't get me wrong, every beach has their own "oddities." However, the "characters" at Venice Beach just seem to be more amplified than what we are used to. For instance, you might see "Santa" in a speedo, skateboarding down the boardwalk area. It was definitely good for people watching and you just never knew what you were going to see next!!!

Chris and I are used to the more "laid-back" beaches where everyone kind of keeps to themselves. At Venice, many people seemed to want the attention focused on them.....or at least that was our perception! In saying that, we still enjoyed going there, but it probably wouldn't top our list for beaches to revisit. Once was enough for us!
I completely understand :thumbsup2

You know, reading through your TR reminds me that I don't take enough photos of us actually in them. People that see my photos probably don't believe me that I was actually there 1/2 the time :lmao: You guys do a great job with that! :goodvibes

Very cool day seeing Jennifer Aniston's star ceremony! :thumbsup2

I totally believe what the paps told you about celebrities and working for the same people. You always hear celebs complain about the paps but yet, when their photos are taken like at the airport or the beach, what are they reading? Gossip mags that take their photo!

How cute is the Disney's Soda Fountain Shop?! :cloud9:

Awesome update! Boy, you really lucked out on seeing a good Hollywood Star ceremony. And you also got to see some other stars celebrating her as well. We liked the Disney Soda Fountain. We also saw a movie at the El Capitan. You should try it sometime. They put on a show before each movie.

As for the ABD trip, we highly suggest them. They may be pricey, but we found it well worth it. We are planning on going on another on in a couple years for my DH's 40th birthday. We are going to the the Quest for the West one. I better start saving now. The Backstage Magic one we took in 2008 was well worth it. We met great people and we just loved the experience!

We actually really enjoyed talking with the paps...sure had some interesting conversations! ;) We couldn't believe our luck with the Star Ceremony...I didn't think we'd be able to see much...boy were we surprised! :thumbsup2

The soda fountain is so cute - I didn't realize they served meals, too. Looks delish!
It's super cute and the food was great!!! :goodvibes Of course, the sundae was the best part!!!

You have had an unbelievable trip already and you haven't even got to DL yet! I'm looking forward to the rest of your trip!
The trip was even better than I imagined it would be! :yay:

Oh, you so hit the jackpot on your trip getting to see Jennifer Aniston receive her star!!! So COOL!!! What a highlight of your already fantastic trip!!!
I KNOW!!! :woohoo: I really wasn't expecting to see much...I thought it would be cool just being in the crowd for the ceremony! Imagine our surprise when we could actually SEE everything that was going on...I was over the moon! :goodvibes

Very interesting that a lot of the stars tell the paparazzi where they are headed and such...
That's what I thought...those guys were sure fun to talk to! Very down to earth and the stories...oh my gosh!!! :lmao:

Lunch at the Soda Fountain looks great! Did you resist buying any souvenirs there?
Lunch was better than I expected it to be! We really enjoyed it! Of course, the sundae was my favorite part! ;) I actually didn't buy one thing...can you believe it? A couple of things caught my eye before sitting down to lunch, but for some reason I never really went back to shopping when we were done??? :confused3

Disneyland in the evening? Really? I can't wait!!! :goodvibes
Well.........I guess I should have stated that a little differently! We made it to Anaheim in the evening...although our hotel was directly across the street from the parks! ;) By the time we arrived, the parks were closing for the evening...

OMG, OMG, OMG ... yeah, that is really all I can say about your experience with Jennifer Aniston!!!!

:lmao: LOVE IT!!!

Oh yeah, and the Soda Fountain looks pretty fantastic too :rotfl:
It was fantastic!!! We loved it and were so glad we took the time to go! :thumbsup2

It really was unbelievable...

What a nice way to start your day with Jenn and Disney fountain. So jealous.
I do have to admit...it was a nice morning! :thumbsup2 Our day could have gone a lot differently had we not found out about the star ceremony...

OHMYGOSH!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe you got to see Jen's star ceremony - I'm SO jealous... but very happy for you guys!!! :goodvibes What an amazing experience!

Hollywood Museum & Kimmel!

We decided to check out the Hollywood Museum because we heard it was one of the best museums in LA.

DSC_0330.jpg

It was located at the old Max Factor Building where all of the stars of "old Hollywood" used to go and get their makeup done.

DSC_0331.jpg

The museum had four floors and showcased both old and new Hollywood. Upon entering, we were told that we could use our camera. However, there was absolutely no flash photography allowed...good enough for me! :woohoo:

An Emmy award...
