You will all have to bear with me a bit. 1 week before we left on our vacation, the adoption agency called with news that we were getting a little girl. We brought her home the day after we returned. Life has been turned upside down since then because I got sick the day we brought her home and now she is sick too.
It was just my husband (36) and myself (34) for this trip. This was our 4th and 5th Disney cruise and 7th cruise all together. We are DVC members and did one cruise on points and 1 on cash.
We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary onboard. We stayed in a category 11 cabin; 6011.
Day #1: Embarkation:
We arrived at the port at 10:15 AM after driving from Jacksonville where we spent the night. We drove down. We met up with several DIS'rs at the port, some of whom we cruised with last year. We were all faithfully wearing our lime green. I had ordered a gift basket from Shirley for my husband for our anniversary (it was very nicely done, thanks Shirley). My DH had ordered a plate of petit fours and champagne for me from DCL. The plate of goodies was in our cabin when we got there and the gift basket arrived later. Our cabin hostess was Violet from Poland. She was excellent and we enjoyed her for 2 weeks.
When we boarded, we made the ususal rounds for Palo and spa ressies. When it came time for sailaway, we made our way to deck 10 to be with the other DIS'rs. I brought leis, bubbles and tattooes for everyone. We had a great time!
We had the PLAPLAP rotation, never again without kids! Our servers, however, were wonderful. We had Florencia and Dean. Florencia had just gotten married the week before in St. Thomas. Our tablemates were awful. Disney really blew it this time! They sat us with a couple and their 3 children, who at least were not at dinner the first night and the parents were wondering why they were even on the cruise! They said they would not be at dinner for the formal nights. I said that I had heard that Topsiders was very nice for an informal dinner. We didn't see them the rest of the cruise, so we had the table to ourselves.
Day #2: Key West
We didn't arrive until around noon. We had our DVC reception in Off Beat in the morning. If you booked with points, you will get an invitation. If you did not, you won't. Just look for it in the navigator and go for the free drinks and prizes.
We did not book any excursions for this trip. We walked around Kew West on our own, it was very hot and humid! We found Hemingway's house and took the tour. It was interesting, but I really went to see all the cats, they were everywhere! We found our way to the Southernmost point and had our picture taken. I wanted to eat at a local place in every port and did some research on line. We had lunch at Turtle Kraals. The food was great, but the restaurant was very difficult to find. I had a seafood salad and DH had a pork sandwich. We found our way to Irish Kevin's for a margarita. They were all right, but the bar was really obnoxious!!!!!!! We drank and left. We did some shopping, had some key lime pie and went back to the ship. We didn't stick around for sunset at Mallory square. Key West is an interesting port, but I wouldn't take my kids there for most of it. I'd book an excursion, I think.
Day #3: At sea
We has our DIS brunch at Palo at 11:30 AM, thanks Beano! We had our own private room in the back and Salvatore was our server. He remembered us from last year. As usual, the food was awesome and we ate too much!
The CC reception was in the afternoon and took up all 3 nightclubs. There were a lot of returning cruisers. Go for the free drinks and munchies.
Tonight is formal and we dressed to the nines. We didn't have our pictures taken as we already have so many.
We informed of a tropical depression that may make the seas a bit rough.
Day #4: Grand Cayman, not!
We made it to the bay, but that was it. The tropical depression had slowed down and was to be 30-40 off of Grand Cayman by afternoon. All tenders and shore excursions were cancelled, so we left and had another day at sea arriving in Cozumel that night about 10:30 PM. We did not get off the ship, but almost the entire ship did, crew anyway. We heard some interesting stories for the rest of the cruise and the next. It was the first time the Magic had overnighted someplace.
I had scheduled my massage for this morning, it was nice, but Ihave had better. They switched the Mexicali party to tonight and passed out free sangria, not very good, but free. We saw the Prem Ear at sea of Tuck Everlasting.
We went to Palo for dinner and ate way too much. Our server was Erika.
