I'm watching a friends 11 month old and although very cute I find some odd things about her that I don't remember about my kids.

She doesn't put anything in her mouth besides her fingers, she loves cheerios and will let you feed her them. She will even pick them up but then just throws them, they don't even go near her mouth.

She also hates stuffed animals. She doesn't like them near her and won't touch them.

I've never seen a baby her age that is like this. She is pretty normal otherwise, pulling up and moving along furniture and such. She babbles a lot and its otherwise very adorable. She is small but stocky.

Also, is it normal for them to have no milk for periods of 4 plus hrs? Parents never bring milk and I am only supposed to give her water in her cup.

I have a son who is almost 2 years old, so I have some recent experience. Although all babies are different I can tell you that my son was the same way with Cheerios. We could feed them to him, but if he picked them up himself he would always throw them. He did get better as he got older (thank goodness). The stuffed animal thing may seem a little odd, but again all babies have their own little quirks. As for the milk, my son only gets 1-2 sippy cups of milk first thing in the morning and then the rest of the day is watered down apple juice or just plain water. This is because he is severely anemic and milk prevents the body from absorbing iron. So my doc has him on milk only minimally everyday. I would not worry too much. You should be fine!!!:thumbsup2

thnaks ! I just remmerb my kids drinking milk all day long and putting everything in their mouths as soon as they were able.

Nothing abnormal at all. I don't think it's a good idea to drink milk all day long and I'm sure that's somehting that pediatricians would be against.

Only one of my 4 has been a stuffed animal fan at that age- and he's 18 months now (tries to breastfeed his bears constantly :lmao: ) By 12 months mine were all going 4+ hours without a milk drink because they were eating quite well with solids too. Only my middle 2 were ones for putting stuff in mouths- my oldest and youngest have never done the "ohhhh look- yum!" thing but they were aware what was food and would feed independantly from v.small too.

I have learnt having 4 and having both sexes and having one who is special needs and one that is gifted is that no two kids are the same - my SN child at 11 months old we honestly thought he was going to be our most advanced/physically able and yet by age 3 there were some blindingly obvious traits and issues showing through- if you'd have asked me when he was 11 months old I'd never on EARTH have said at age 5 he'd been in specialist physio groups both in and out of school, have to take occupational therapy, having one on one support with his fine motor skills but he is.

I have an almost 11 month old ds and he has milk three times a day. Once when he wakes up, once at lunch, and once before bed (6 oz each time), other than that he has water. He does put EVERYTHING in his mouth, but then again, he is a boy and constantly wants to eat!:rotfl2: I know my son is at that stage where he's learning what happens when he throws or drops things. She could be at that same stage...just seeing what happens and what your reaction is when she throws the cheerios. I wouldn't worry too much about it. She sounds pretty normal to me.

My son is 21 months and it's hard not to compare your kid to other children, but it's really useless in that every child is different.

Kids can be picky with food textures and it takes time for them to get used to things.

If I remember he was getting about 3 8oz bottles of formula a day at 11 months. By 1 yr he was weaned off formula and onto milk. My Dr. said no more than 24 oz of milk (or dairy) products a day. he drank about 16 oz or so a day. - omne 8oz bottle in morning and one at night.

He was drinking out of sippy cups and such - the only thing he drank out of a bottle was milk and when we gave him milk in his sippy cup he took one taste and wouldn't drink it - he only drank milk from a bottle. We stopped giving him bottles of milk about over 2 months ago. He never missed having a bottle I only kept giving it to him to drink mile, but he really isn't a big milk drinker as he very rarely finished his bottles. So now, he has milk with his cereal in the morning and he loves cheese and yogurt and gets his calcium that way.
Plus there are vitamins.

Water is his drink of choice. For the longest time he didn't even like fruit juices - even when I watered them down. Now he's drinks fruit juices a bit, but water is still his main drink of choice and I don't fight it because it's best for him.
He also likes to drink my seltzer - we call it "fuzzy water".

My son isn't a big sweet eater - only lately does he eat some ice cream or juice pop. Cookies, cakes, candy - he spits it out. But give him chedder goldfish or a potato chip or the Gerber cheese puffs and he's in heaven.

While other kids want animal crackers and candy and such, my son would rather potato chips and water.

And every day there's something new with him. It's a great age filled with varous behaviors and many wonderful changes.

I'm just surprised she doesn't mouth anything or even attempt to feed herself. Even her father asked me about this too.

DNiece did not like to put anything in her mouth at that age (now she's 2). She was not interested in feeding herself or anything. The good news was that NOTHING went in her mouth, so you didn't have to worry about her trying to eat all kinds of things she should not. Starting at about 15 - 16 months, she would only feed herself, and starting using her hands, spoon, fork, etc. She's what I would consider normal now - but still does not put any non-food things in her mouth (I wish DS would have this "issue").

Stuffed animals - DS could care less about them generally (he's 1). DNiece has 1 she carries everywhere, but I have a friend who's kid (now 3) hated them for a while. I think this may be because some kids don't see stuffed animals much when they're very little, due to all the SIDS warnings, but who knows what the little ones think.

Milk - DS loves milk. He'll drink it all day and fill his stomach if we let him. We only give him milk before naps and at night, and he still drinks 24 - 28 oz per day. He's 14 months, and at that age the Dr. says he should have 16 - 20 oz per day, so he's still drinking too much milk. The issue is that if kids drink too much milk, they don't eat enough other food and don't get balanced nutrition.

So - overall, I wouldn't worry too much.
