Baby and the Tramp...and a Pop (half) Century! Where Did It Go???

In exactly two weeks Memom, John, Brooklynn, and I will be on board a Disney bus headed to Animal Kingdom to check Expedition Everest off our list. We will of course invite Kristi and Trent and Drew and his yet-to-be-named buddy, but they still sleep in until 11:00 at least so we will see who will get up and join us. I only have 8 more days of work. Our new school year will start the Monday I come back to work so I am busy preparing curriculum and class lists to be passed out while I am gone. Yesterday, I found out our corporate office will be visiting while I am gone so that adds a little more pressure to make sure everything is taken care of by the time I leave. Well I guess I better go get busy. Every one have a magical day!

15 days here - going crazy!! :scared1: Still trying to figure out how to tell the kids the big "we're going to WDW" secret! Mostly going nuts because I ALWAYS start packing about this time and I can't because the kids don't know!!! Sure hope I don't forget something because I won't be packing until the day before we leave OMG!!

declansdad and pooksma - Trent's boss was able to stay at AKL, and he said the construction seems pretty far away to him. It didn't interfere with anything he did at all. He didn't have a lot to say about the trip except that he ate at Rose and Crown and had a delicious steak there, and he ate at Tony's and had some awesome pasta...and ate half his son's pizza and his wife's leftovers! He said his son really liked the AKL slide.

Thanks for the info MEMom. Sorry I can't help you with the gym thing.

Greetings!!! I have not been on the boards really in the last few days... just getting ready for my trip on Friday (still have not told work) --

MeMom - Those words you expressed really touched my heart. I am sitting here at work with a tear in my eye - ;)

In terms of working out - I am pretty much a health nut myself. I don't know how much it costs, but there is a nice gym at Coronado Springs resort (not far from pop.

Hello! What a wonderful family you have! I am so excited for you! I can't wait to hear your report. You are so creative with your pre-parties I can't imagine what you will do once you are really there! I'm sad we will just miss you, my mom and I are leaving Aug. 7 and taking my two girls (9 and 3). Girls only trip! Papa, DH and my soon to be 2 DS (July 24 to be exact) are staying home. And everyone is pretty happy about that, especially the boys! Probably me the least, I am going to miss my little boy and my big one too! Anyway, back to your trip I hope you have a GREAT time and can't wait to hear all about it!

Wingedheart - We are almost there! I don't know how you're keeping it a secret, but I'm looking forward to you telling us all about how the reveal goes.

snowbell - I can't believe you still haven't told work! You definitely have to tell us what "story" you finally come up with. We'll check into Coronado Springs. I know some are just for resort guests and some can be paid for by "outsiders". Trent and Kristi just have to go and be these super-athletes, so not working out for so long is just beyond their train of thought.

Gmax - Keep those smilies dancing, because it is almost here! Jill and I are both doing the "In two weeks we'll be..." thing. Like, for instance, two weeks from tonight, we'll be watching Fantasmic! Is your mom along on this ride? If so, maybe Cotta can "sit" by you guys on this ride. You'll take good care of her, won't you, as she begins this trip, as well as this addiction to the Dis.

Cotta - You are absolutely welcome to come along for all the insanity you can handle. Your girls' trip will be fun, even though I know you will miss your guys. By the time you go, I'll be back in the drudgery of school, so you'll have to carry my spirits until my next time, along with Gmax and Nicole and some others that are going in the fall.

SwansLoveDisney - Yep, the gazillion miles a day is plenty for normal people, but Trent and Kristi are sort of like Superman and Wonder Woman. However, I do know that they will be sleeping late and spending lots of time in the water, so they'll probably only end up walking half a gazillion miles in the parks. They'll go for shorter times and hit more of the thrill rides.

declansdad - I am truly hoping you guys get to go to AKL. I know that you never dreamed of all this worry when you did your booking. I know it has been stressful, but whatever happens, you'll have a great time, and you'll get to stay in a nice resort no matter what. You can always go over to AKL for the storytelling one night and maybe eat and see the animals, even if you end up at Poly.

I know you are all getting so excited. Yippeee!

We do this crazy/torturing thing in our house where we say..."Just think; at this very moment.... someone is going down the big hill on Splash Mtn. or Someone is getting a big hug from Mickey." My kids drive each other nuts with this!:rotfl2: One will say one thing and then the next one will try and one up them with a favorite ride/food/character. They get all worked up over it.

I have really enjoyed all of your pictures and learning more about your family.
What a sweet little girl Brooklynn is...she always looks happy.:goodvibes She has no idea how blessed she is! You all look like you have tons of fun together and really love each other.
I know your trip will be just fantastic...I am really excited for you.

I wanted to ask about the young boy that was injured. How is he doing? I am praying for him and his family.

Thanks for the well wishes. I am feeling much better and thankfully I have no hives:woohoo: .

Hey Darlene! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in doing this. In the morning while at work, I think: someone's getting up for their breakfast ADR, or going to a rope drop!
What's up with you being sick? Are you just trying to get attention? ;) Hope you're doing better!

Gmax - Is your mom along on this ride?
Nope! Mom isnt going this time around. Maybe next year! Thanks for asking!

She really is happy 99% of the time. At church and school she has lots of nicknames, such as, smiley and smiles-a-lot. As always on my way to work this morning I called MeMom and reminded her (like she needed it:lmao:) that in two weeks we would be on our way to Magic Kingdom to ride Dumbo and Peter Pan.

cherokeemamma - I'm not sure of the status of the little boy. I'm sure they will make another announcement Sunday morning, so I'll report back then.

I had to go to a workshop today, and I have to go again tomorrow. I'm trying to ignore school, because my summer is not over, but the workshops do pay, so that's more Disney money. It wasn't too bad, though. I've been to really, really boring ones, and this was pretty decent.

Several of us are going to be at Pop at the same time, and Avivasmom is going to be at WDW, but not at Pop. We're going to try to meet her on the Boardwalk at some point, I think. Hopefully, we can meet up as we all go back and forth from park to park long enough to say hello and take a picture, which we will post on this report with each person's permission.

We've made our plans for the first few days, and that will cover us making it to all four parks to do our "musts". After that, we can slow down a bit and go at a more relaxed pace. Using EMH, by Day 3, counting arrival day as Day 1, we will have seen Wishes, Spectro, Fantasmic, and Illuminations. We will have ridden Splash Mountain, Everest, and Soarin', and we will have done all the things in Fantasyland that Brooklynn can do. Those are the things of most importance. After that, we can pick and choose what we want to do and redo. By that time, my leg should be swollen to about the size of one of Big Red's monstrous legs, so it'll be time to slow things down a teeny bit. (When Tiggerbell talks about her pillow stacks, I can totally relate.) We definitely plan to resort hop to shop and eat. Neither Jill nor I have ever been to Old Key West, so we want to go there for a look-see and maybe a drink or a snack.

We'll take requests for what you guys want to see. Just tell us what you'd like to see pictures of, and we'll do our best to get those for you. Hopefully, it will help those of you who are almost there to hold out and know that very shortly YOU will be standing in that same place. A couple of people who are reading this but not posting on the report itself have made some requests of things they want to see, and we're going to put those on here for them. So, give us a list, and if we can get to it, we will surely do it.

There have been times over the past year that I thought I would explode if the trip didn't hurry up and get here. Now that it is so close, I feel myself relaxing, because I know it is really going to happen. There's a new calmness about it all, since I can reach out and almost touch it. All of us need this wonderful break from the cares and work of real life, and it gives me such a good feeling inside seeing them all looking so forward to it. I guess you'd have to know how very, very far we've come from struggling just to survive to being able to do this. Even staying at a value resort is big for us, so I feel a real sense of accomplishment in what we've reached on the other side of a long hard road. Someday I'll tell you my "Two Pieces of Bread" story, but not now. Right now, I just want to focus on all things fabulous leading to this trip. According to our countdown, we are at 11 days, 1 hour, and five minutes until departure.

Have a good rest of the evening all! We're hoping to get some pictures of last year's Wilderness Lodge visit in honor of the fact that we'll be going there to eat our first night. Jill is very, very busy at work right now, but if she has a few minutes, I think you'll enjoy them. Minnie taking a ride on the back of the boat over to WL is pretty cute.

Avivasmom is going to be at WDW, but not at Pop. We're going to try to meet her on the Boardwalk at some point, I think. Hopefully, we can meet up as we all go back and forth from park to park long enough to say hello and take a picture, which we will post on this report with each person's permission.

Fingers crossed we can meet feel like I know you already. How excited is everyone? Aviva cannot wait, me I just wish I was not in such pain with my back...it has been a bad week. And very hot and humid!!

Hope every one of you had a great holiday! We were extremely American and went and watched a baseball game and fireworks!

AWWWW what an adorable pic! Brooklynn is beautiful in her little 4th outfit! Whatever you do, don't go go the customs sewing thread! :rotfl2:

You know those days where everything just gets to your emotions? I guess I'm mostly figuring the ladies can relate to this, but this has just been one of those days. I guess just realizing the trip is so close, after waiting for so long, and I am so, so, so excited about being able to take Brooklynn there. I started out watching A Baby Story this morning, and I almost always find those so touching. The one I saw today had a lady with five handsome boys, and she was having a little girl this time. They all looked so sweet at the end, all those husky, rowdy, smiling boys huddled around that little princess. I don't remember their names, but somewhere out there, I believe they are living full, happy lives, and it just started off my day thinking off how proud that dad was and how excited that mom was to finally have a daughter to share girl things with.

Of course, that made me think of my own daughter, who has just turned out to be the most wonderful, giving, loving young woman. Seeing her become a mommy has been one of the greatest joys I've ever known. I thought about how happy I am that she and John met at college, and how they are making a good life for themselves. I'm grateful for John, who takes care of two girls I love very much. They are able to give Brooklynn a better life than I was able to give my kids because of their good jobs, and I am so happy for that. I'm thankful that Brooklynn is a beautiful, happy, healthy baby.

It made me think of Trent, and how grateful I am to have him. Trent almost died in a sports accident at the end of his senior year of high school. It's a long story, but he had emergency surgery to repair a damaged spleen, colon, kidney, intestines, appendix, and a one inch hole in his stomach on the night he was supposed to be going to his senior banquet. After the surgery, we were told that if the surgery hadn't been done when it was, he would have lived about another two hours, and then he would have collapsed and most likely not lived. He had an eight month recovery period which altered the course of his life, and at first he thought it was the worst thing that ever happened to him. Through that altering of his college plans, though, he met Kristi, and now he knows that from something very bad, something very good can happen. I am grateful that we have Trent around, and that he has sweet Kristi. I am grateful for Kristi, who puts up with Trent's craziness and who just fits in so naturally with our family.

It made me think of Drew, who I prayed for many, many nights, and who came from the other side of the world to be my son. Drew was the laughter and joy in our lives when we went through some really hard times right after his arrival. He's had a bit of a rough time in school, growing up with ADD, but here he is, on the verge of his senior year. I know he has wanted to walk out the school door never to return many times. He will be a happy young man when school life is over for him and he can go out into the world of cars and photography, never to sit behind a desk again, unless it is his choice. I'm proud of him for not quitting.

It made me think of how grateful I am to be around to see my little Brooklynn grow. I have a history of many kinds of cancer in my hereditary lines, and I had a pretty serious surgery several years back. It was only a tiny bit away from having reached the bone, but with lots of cutting and a lot of God's blessings, I am perfectly fine. Granted, I have a scar on my right leg that makes me look like I'm related to Frankenstein, but big deal! Because of the removal of the lymphnodes, my leg swells like an elephant at certain times, as I know it will do on our trip, but again, big deal! I can limp with the best of them, and I am so very, very blessed to be able to have the opportunity to limp through Disney World with my family.

So, though I am thankful for them every day, today has been one of my more reflective days. We are preparing to go to one of the greatest places in the world, all of us alive and healthy, all of us able-bodied and not wanting for necessities, and all of us very blessed people.

Okay, enough of the jibberish. Since my thoughts are probably so much on the surface because of the trip, I guess I can include it as part of the trip. And, of course, since declansdad has PROMISED me a new bathroom next year, I've never been so excited about Canada Day in my life! You all did hear him promise, right? All kidding aside, if you ever do come to Tennessee, go to the eastern part. East Tennessee is beautiful with the mountains and streams, especially in the fall. Gatlinburg in October is a sight to see! It would be worth it to stop off there for a night or two on your way to Disney World sometime.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead, whether you are doing something special, or whether you are just doing the mundane things in life. I believe all of us who come together in friendships on this forum are some pretty blessed folks! Stay safe, and keep counting those days until your trip comes!!!
I know exactly how you feel. I felt that before our trip and I mentioned it in my pre-trippie. So many people cannot manage Disney or they just dont get the whole magic of it all. I just love how you expressed this here. I sure wish you were my mommy!

Our trip to the zoo was good. Brooklynn got spoiled by her Grammy and Gpa and Uncle Jason. I pushed around an empty stroller for two hours. Here are some pics from the day before the purse snatching occured.

DSC06273.jpg

This grin says "I know I should be in that stroller you are pushing mommy, but it is much more fun to be carried!"

DSC06285.jpg

I'm pretty sure at least one of our WDW pics will look like this. It was extremely brief though. This "nap" if you could call it that only lasted 10 minutes and then she was back up and grinning.

DSC06287.jpg

After a long hot day we are still smiling. It was great practice for Disney!
Oh yeah...about the heat and humidity in FL...wowzaaaa...took my breath away! I love the nap pic :cloud9:

I'll throw out a question to anyone who might know: Trent and Kristi want to work out at a fitness center several times while we are in WDW. I know they can visit some of the resort ones for a fee, but does anyone know what the fee is and which one might be closest to Pop or easiest for them to get to from Pop? Any insight will be appreciated by these two fitness nuts.

Consider yourself officially adopted. However, if you are part of the family, that means the babysitting is FREE!!!
Yikes....working out at Disney is overkill don't you think? :confused3 Thats dedication if you can fit that into the schedule...I am impressed!

Oh.....pick me, pick me :yay: :yay: :yay: I want to be adopted too!

I went to one last week...on Smart Boards...it was pretty good actually!

A plan is a must!:thumbsup2

Yaaaaaaaaa:cheer2: This is sooo exciting! I can't wait to hear all about your week!

I guess MeMom and I are very telepathetic! I was just thinking yesterday about how close we are and how out of a terrible situation has come a wonderful bond that no one can break. When I was 8 my parents divorced. It wasn't pretty - through no fault of my mom's. My brother's and I were put through court battles and depositions at very young ages. My mom had not finished college and had been a stay at home mom. Now she had three small children she had to care for. When the child support checks came they were never on time or for anywhere near the amount the court had ordered. We lived on macaroni, rice, and plain oatmeal. It is a running joke now anytime mom has rice out we ask "Are we poor again?"
We know it now, but didn't have a clue then. We realized that we didn't have everything our friends had, but because mom was very creative, hard-working, and determined we never went without. As Memom mentioned there is the "Two slices of bread" story. Ever had toast sticks? Not French Toast sticks, but toast sticks. It is what happens when a loving mother realizes that she only has two pieces of bread to feed three children. She toasts the bread adds butters and then cuts it into strips. She puts all the strips on one plate and presents them to her children with excitement. "You each get 3 toast sticks!" What an exciting day! See her creativity. Mom went to college, worked several jobs, and still managed to spend time with us. She finally graduated with her degree in education and has been teaching ever since.

Life has gotten better since then. Our vacation in July 2005 was the first real vacation we had had in a long long time. I don't think I will ever know the extent to which my mother has sacrificed for us. I know there are many days during that bleak period that my mom only ate one meal a day or went without something she truly needed so that one of us could have something we wanted. She is truly a wonderful person! She is the best example of what a mother truly should be and I strive to be like her every day. I know that if I am even half the mommy to Brooklynn that my mommy has been to me then Brooklynn will be truly blessed.

I hope that you all have a magical Friday the 13th and a great weekend.

How sweet.... :grouphug: :goodvibes

My parents divorced when I was very young and like Memom, my mother did without so much so I could always have what I needed. She always put me first!
Your story touched me and brought to mind how much my mom has done for me.

Have a blessed day!:flower3:
Darlene

9 days, 15 hours, and a few minutes from now, the caravan heads south! I knew these last two weeks would fly by, because we had so much to do, and this past week really did. Jill and I talked on Monday morning about how fast it WOULD go, and then we blinked and we were talking on Friday about how fast it DID go.

Thanks for your sweet comments, Jilly-bean. You know how much I love you and how proud I am of you. We've come a long way to solid ground. We always need to remember how fortunate we are and that there are others now going through what we did. We'll hope and pray they come out as blessed as we have if they keep their hearts, minds, and focus right.

declansdad and pooksma, for those of you who have been following their story, were hoping to surprise Declan by ending their stay with a couple of nights at AKL. Unfortunately, this ended up being right at the time the construction is going on. They've been sweating it out as people have been being moved, and they've been hoping to be one of the lucky ones who got to keep their room. They got the dreaded news yesterday that they will have to move, and they are disappointed, of course. But, they are going to get a lagoon view Poly room, and that should be beautiful. If anyone reading on this thread has some great Poly pictures to share with them, please put them on here for all of us, especially them, to enjoy and help get them excited. It is a pretty resort with all its greenery, and they'll be right on the monorail, so it'll be so nice getting to and from MK so quickly. They can sit on the beach and watch the EWP, and they can see the fire dancer/torch activity in the evening. Anyone that can add to any suggestions they can do at or will like about Poly, please post them here so we can help lessen their disappointment. I know they're not "sulking" or anything, but it's just that they so wanted this for Declan and had it planned for so long, and now they're having to transition things in their mind. So, let's have a Poly Party right here on this thread just for them!!! AND...they still get to look forward to an AKL stay the next trip!

Everyone have a great Saturday! I'm headed off to SAM'S to buy a ton of fruits, vegetables, milk, and eggs for this coming week and take them on up to the camp. The high school week closed out last night, and a lot of the kids decided to go see the new Harry Potter movie. As exhausted as people are at the end of a week of camp, I'm guessing some of them may have fallen asleep during the movie.

snowbell is in Disney World right now, so we'll hope she is having a lot of fun and will pray for a safe trip. What are you all doing today?

Thank you very much for the kind words and thoughts. You are a wonderful person.

You are right in saying that we are not sulking but rather disappointed. The Poly was our first alternate and we are receiving a fantastic deal. Time to start planning for the couple of nights at the Poly.

Wow! I can't believe your trip is almost here! You better take lots and lots of notes for your TR!

Here are pictures from Minnie's trip last year. She went in Jill's place, since Jill was too FAT (in a good way) to go. Jill walked me through the photobucket process over the phone, so we'll see how these turn out. If they're scattered all over or upside down, please forgive me... I'm almost half a century old!
