B.Y.O.B restaurants????

Met my husband at West Chester University; he used to live on Dean St. We had a couple of BYOB places we loved (one was an awesome Italian place and the other was a Chinese place). Ahh, those were the days...before kids. Anyway, here in WI, it would be heresy to have a restaurant without booze--no where to get those "brandy old fashion sweets" !!

I agree that I wish that we could bring wine into a restaurant rather than pay the way inflated prices.

From what I read (and hopefully someone who has experience with this can confirm this), most restaurants will allow you to bring in your own bottle of wine. Supposedly you can call the restaurant in advance and ask them if they will allow it, and if so what the corking fee is. I can't wait to try this out to see if it works.

Only places we have here that are BYOB are after-hours Bottle Clubs. They are basically bars that are open past the time that alcohol can legally be sold - they sell the mixers, you bring the liquor.

I kind of like the idea of a BYOB restaurant. We could have a whole bottle of decent wine for what we pay for one glass of cheap stuff.

They do that here in PA because, from what I understand, there are only so many liquor licenses issued per area (limit), at any given time. They are very, very expensive to come by too, because of the limit. If there are none available when you open your establishment and you want people to be able to enjoy spirits with their meals, you can only offer BYOB.

I recently learned that it's not uncommon for nicer restaurants to allow patrons to bring in their own wine but charge a "corking fee". I've never done it but it sure would beat the pants of paying triple the cost for a bottle of wine!

This is VERY, VERY common in Northern California - home of the wine snobs. People often buy wine that is not available in a restaurant. I've been out to dinner with friends in No. CA who "must" have the appropriate bottle of wine with dinner. So they bring their own rather than have to "settle" for what's on the wine list.

The corkage fee can be fairly high though.

Pa has STATE STORES that sell liquor & to buy beer you have to go to a beer distributor to buy it by the case. Some bars can sell 6 packs to go. Its a real pain compaired to other States.

I have never heard of this either. What kind of places are they that you can bring in your own alcohol? Are they family type diners or fancy places?

It is usually dining establishments and I *think* they need a permit to offer it and I also think they need to be on the liquor license waiting list, not totally sure on that though.

There's a town near us - Montclair NJ that has tons of really nice restaurants. About 90% of them do not have liquor - they encourage you to bring your own. I never knew of any in NY though. But it's very common near us. Thats fine with me - thats when I'll pay $40 for a bottle of cake bread instead of paying $80 in a restaurant!

The only BYOB place around here that I've seen (or been to) is a little Cuban restaurant that sits right in the middle of a residential neighborhood (it's in a converted old house). I always assumed that's why it can't get a liquor license.

I've brought beer there before. They take it to the back, refrigerate it, and then serve it to you when you want it. They do charge a nominal fee but I can't remember what it is.

Our Counter Top bussiness is on MacDade Blvd in Darby. I have a nice 40 min drive to work. My husband grew up in Springield.
