Avoid MK on first day?

I also say go with your original plan - MK first.
We took our 4 kids for our first WDW vacation this past Nov. and we went to MK our first full day(MGM the afternoon/evening on arrival day). It depends on your children's ages. Mine are 14,11,9 and 3 1/2. The older ones liked the other parks better but of course the 3 1/2 loved MK. We had park hoppers
as did my sister and her family who had children aged 5 1/2, 4 and 2 and so this was also their first trip to the world and they hopped over to MK a lot more than we did. If you're children are younger they will want to go for probably more than 2 of your 12 day trip.

Have fun no matter what!!! :grouphug:

I was worried about my DD and DS being overwhelmed by the crowds at MK on a weekend, so we opted to wait until Tuesday and it was perfect for us. We were there Jan. 14-21 and the weekend we arrived was MLK weekend, so crowds were a bit higher than expected in January. We did go to the MK as soon as we arrived on Saturday night for Spectromagic and Wishes, but then hit Epcot and MGM. So they did see the castle first, but didn't have to fight crowds to see it- everyone was getting their spots for the parade by the time we arrived. We were also told by a CM that Wednesday is generally the least busy day in the MK and we found it to be true during our trip. I think you should do what your kids will enjoy the most! :goodvibes

i like to do MK on the first day - to get me into DISNEY!

have fun!

I can't imagine not going there first! We are going there the first night and the next day and then again a few days later. I just can't imagine not starting the trip with the best part (for little ones anyway!).

Leave your plans the way they are!

I have to agree with MK the first day. For me Disney has to start with MK and seeing the castle so I know we are there. My kids are older but they don't mind or at least they humor me. :teeth: I also have to go to MK on the last day . . . don't know why but that's what we have done on the last three trips. This trip will be no different and we may not even get to the MK until 4 p.m. but that is still my plan to go to MK first and walk around a bit, maybe catch a ride or two, and then see SpectroMagic and Wishes if the kids can make it that long. There is just something about the castle and walking into MK that lets me know I have arrived. :wizard: :goodvibes

I know whatever park you decide to do the kids will have fun but MK is it for me.

Thanks for all your reassurances--I'm going to leave my plan the way it is. My DH's friend (the CM) had suggest leaving MK to the last because our kids would be disappointed with the other parks in comparison. But I agree that my kids will be pretty enthralled with everything. Plus, we're staying at WL and have park hoppers, so can easily skip over to MK in the evenings to do a couple of rides after spending time at one of the other parks during the day and taking an afternoon break at the resort.

See, what does the CM know, anyway?! I knew you DIS'ers would convince me I had it right the first time.

We now go yearly to WDW so it is not as much of an issue, as the kids know they will get to do it all at some point. But a few years ago, we went for the first time in a long time, (first trip my second child remembers) and we went to AK first. They were so mopey the whole day and we could not figure out why. Finally we got from them that it does not feel like they are at Disney because they have not seen the castle yet. So I would say go to MK first and then go back again later if you wish. Have a great trip.

Have fun Momma! :thumbsup2

OH, Magic Kingdom!!! It will set the mood for the whole trip. :cool1: Who knows it may be that by the end of the 12 days you might be able to go again. We never spent a whole day at Epcot. My kids just did not enjoy it as much. MK All The Way

I was thinking the same, and waiting to do MK on Tuesday b/c I figured it would be so crowded on Monday with everyone going there on their first day there (on a typical Sun-Sun vacation).
