Is anyone a member of this? I get membership because of my credit card, and I was going to enroll, hoping to get a deal on a minivan for April, and I had some questions.. you're suppoosed to get an upgrade. (if available) . is an upgrade to a minivan a full size SUV? like a suburban? (fingers crossed because thats what I drive at home and would love to get!) do you get any better of a rate, or do I still need to hunt down codes?
does anyone know the difference between preferred and preferred select?
and.. is it really any faster at the airport?..... I hate that l o n g line at the counter and would LOVE to bypass it!!
Thanks for any advice!

I have a preferred card because it is the rental company my company uses. It is nice to bypass the counter. In Orlando, you just go straight out to the garage, there's a booth there. Some airports you get bussed to their location and they just give you the space number on the bus. I don't think there's a lower rate, my corporate travel system uses our code. Unlike National, you don't get to pick your car. They have everything ready for you when you get to the booth. I have sometimes been upgraded to a full size or SUV. I had an incident in Phoenix a few months ago where they assigned me an HHR, which I hate. Even though they had a lot full of cars, they said nothing else was available.

oh thats so nice to know!!!.. waiting with kids (young ones) is not so fun while hubby is line for almost an hour! so you go straight to the garage? I think I recall seeing a counter to the right of the regular counter that said Preferred.. so I wouldnt even go to that, I would just go to the garage?
Thanks!

Avis Preferred is awesome. Yes, you do bypass the stupid long lines. In Boston, they ask your name on the bus, and take you right to your car, which has the keys and the contract with it! Every airport is a bit different, I guess. (We don't rent cars in Orlando since we have our own.)

After waiting two hours in a Budget line in Boston 10 years ago, we signed up with Avis Preferred and never looked back.

Go straight to the garage.

My card just says Avis Preferred Service, I'm not sure what Select is.

Select is for renters that accumulate 25+ days per year or 12+ rentals per year. Is that coming from a high end credit card?
