Average amount of presents you get your child for christmas

The wise men gave baby Jesus 3 presents, so that's how many Santa brings DD. He also fills her stocking, and she gets one present from Mom and Dad. This helps to control how much she gets while also pointing the focus of the holiday back where I'd like it to be.

:thumbsup2 All bought and wrapped here! Been done for about a couple weeks now.

Although I might be getting younger dd one more thing. She's been begging for a balance beam (she's on the team in gymnastics), and found one for a decent price on craigslist that's still available, but have to drive an hour to get it.

It's a shame you don't live close to us, because I need to get rid of DD's beam. She is no longer competing since having knee surgery. We haven't gotten rid of it yet because I guess it makes it final if it's not here. :(

The three types of gifts listed in the Bible were to show that this was not just a baby who was born but the King of Kings.

We do it by a dollar amount. We usually spend $150-200 per child depending on the gifts. Our two youngest are getting bikes and our oldest wants a base guitar, so we are getting him a starter one. We also get a family gift. This year it is a Playstation 3. So each kid will get a game to go with it. We are also gong to DL on New Year's Day. So they will get my heir gift cards to spend.

Um, yes. I know this. So are you implying that it's wrong for me to do this b/c my child is not the King of Kings? I'm not sure I understand your point?

I am done (I think) and it looks like my girls will be receiving 15 gifts each, plus stocking stuffers. About half of the gifts will be from Santa. I have a 5 year old and an 18 year old and Santa still brings for both girls.

Family presents are opened on Xmas Eve. My kids both receive 3-4 presents from us, mostly clothes, underwear, things they "need.", plus maybe one fun gift. They also get a new, combined "family" board game and a movie, which we play together and watch together on Xmas Eve.

Santa brings 10-12 gifts per child on Xmas Day. We don't do stockings, so smaller gifts that might have fit in a stocking are wrapped and placed under the tree. Although, they do get stuff for St. Nick's day in their stocking, which I might cut down on this year, since I have non-believers now. Although, I told them Santa will ALWAYS come to our house. They will not deny me that fun.......as if they are complaining about that! They are 11 and 13.

We feel we've for overboard in the past do this year our kids are getting three gifts each plus stocking stuffers. Santa will bring a board game for each. I need one more gift for my 12 year old & two more for my 2 year old.

My girls are 14 and 7. The older one's gifts are getting more and more expensive. However, me & and my exhusband have always spoiled our girls, while married and I have continued the tradition although he's gotten cheaper each year and it's quite noticeable and no his financial situation has noy

However, me & and my exhusband have always spoiled our girls, while married and I have continued the tradition although he's gotten cheaper each year and it's quite noticeable and no his financial situation has not changed he's just gotten cheaper. I have each one of my girls make sure I get their list for "Santa" by Halloween that way "Santa" has enough time and money to get the items they want plus I get them additional gifts from me. My fiance also gets them things.
I also get them stocking stuffers too. I think last year I may have spent about 600 on the older one and a little less on the younger one.
I do have a large Christmas budget but I work hard to save for it and I enjoy seeing their faces light up. I can't wait til this year as well.

My kids are 9 months and 2. They are 17 months apart, so I can see reading this thread that may be beneficial in keeping things "even." They each get one "big" gift from Santa. My daughter will be getting the Laugh and Learn house and my son is getting a train table. These are actually both hand me downs, the house was $40 and the table is free from a friend who wants a good home for her sons' beloved toy, so that worked out awesome! They are getting 8-10 presents from us. I am thinking about taking my 2 year old to pick something for his sister, but not sure if that would be lost on him still this year. I have spent roughly $150 on each of them and need just a few more stocking stuffers- maybe $20 each. I do plan on going to this little bow shop on Small Business Saturday and getting stuff for my daughter. I figure when Amex gives me my $25 credit, that stuff should be almost free! :cheer2:

ETA- I love the idea of a family gift! I am going to have to think about this one my older one just started watching TV and my daughter could care less, so a movie doesn't really work and they are too young for games. This may be for next year.

DD14 and DS 11 are each getting one gift (they both want a Google Nexus tablet). Present is from DH and I, but I still write from Santa on the tag. :)

Every year we scale back more and more on Christmas and birthdays. We're down to one present at Christmas and no birthday presents. However, we decided as a family that our priority is traveling, so in lieu of presents we take two really nice vacations each year. Works out great for us!

Last year each of my kids got 2 gifts from Santa and 2 gifts from us along with Stocking stuffers. We usually have a family gift, too. They also get a gift from their Aunt & Uncle and 2-3 from Nana & Grandpa. We have a very small family.

Santa gifts last year was DS9 - ipod touch 8g, Ninjago Temple Lego, Nintendo DS Ninjago game ~ $270
DS6 - 2 Xbox games (Just Dance & Disneyland advenures), Harry Potter Castle Lego (the big one!), Pirates Lego set ~$200
Stocking stuffers were puzzle, recorder, coloring book, art kit, itunes gift card ($25), candy. ~$100 for both
Seasonal stuff was Star Wars advent calendar, gingerbread house, and crafts/cookies/treats and books/PJs ~$150
Family gift was Xbox Kinnect.
I had bought some DVDs but held those back and they ended up in their Easter Baskets.

This year DS wants Nintendo 3DS - so he'll get that and a couple of games. DS7 wants science stuff so he'll be cheaper again. Otherwise, pretty much the same as last year.

Our big family gift this year will be saving up for our 2013 trip!

And i am one of the weird ones who keeps a spreadsheet year after year ;)

We have only 1 child and for that reason she is a bit spoiled, but not rotten. We really try to keep the focus of Christmas off gift giving and on celebration and being thankful for our salvation.

Having said that, we give her one big gift and several smaller ones. We generally do not do stocking stuffers, but when we do it is generally a few small giftcards. (itunes, target, Disney, etc)

Just in case you want to know so that you can add this to your Christmas morning tradition of why you choose 3:

Gold was the usual offering presented to kings by their subjects, or those wanting to pay respect. When the Magi presented gold, they were honoring Jesus with the very best that they possessed, and they were also recognizing that Jesus was King.

Frankincense is a very costly and fragrant gum distilled from a tree that is found in Persia, India and Arabia, as well as the East Indies. Frankincense is highly fragrant when burned, and was, therefore, used in worship, where it was burned as a pleasant offering to God.

Myrrh is an aromatic gum produced from a thorn-bush that grew in Arabia and Ethiopia, and was obtained from a tree in the same manner as frankincense. It was used chiefly in embalming the dead, because it had the property of preserving them from putrefaction. It's also interesting to note that the Greek word for myrrh, "smurna", is the same as the name of the city and church, which received a letter from the Apostle. Smyrna was the second of the seven churches of Asia that John was instructed to write to in the early chapters of the book of Revelation.

Roughly 10 each from Santa, 1 big, 1 medium and rest relatively small. 1-2 from mom and dad. As they learn about Santa, the gift ratio will likely be reversed with just a couple things from "Santa". I usually go by dollar spend more than anything though and can envision that when they start asking for big ticket items the # of presents will drop like a rock. Stockings are usually from MIL so we don't worry about those.

Trying to bump this.

I think I'm going to do fewer this year as our DD is getting older and has enough toys. It's so easy to over do it though since she's our only child and we don't buy ourselves (DH and I) more than a couple presents. Hoping to bulk up under the tree with a lot of clothes this year for her and few toys from santa.

Let me preface this by stating my DD has absolutely no grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins that she receives anything from.

In the past, way too many! It took her over an hour to open everything.

Last year, she didn't get too much. Maybe 10 gifts in all but it was all the things she asked for.

This year? It's going to be very tough! I lost my job in January and things are VERY hard. I'm trying to scrape money together now to get her new sneakers for school as well as a pair of shoes.

Christmas is going to be lean. I know she was talking about a book she wanted from the Punk exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The book is $50 so maybe I'll get her that, along with a few other small things and an iTunes gift card.
