Average amount of presents you get your child for christmas

We have 4 children and not a lot of money. However, they aren't lacking in gifts by any means because they do have lots of family.

They each get 3 gifts plus stockings. One gift from Santa and usually the one that they ask for (although, one year DD asked for an American Girl doll and that about KILLED us they are so expensive!!) and two from us. Stockings are filled by Santa and is usually things like candy, inexpensive toys, stickers, etc..

Last year though, instead of 2 gifts each from us, we got one big family gift.. a PS3 with the "move" controller that you play sports games with. We got a good deal on it plus 2 games that were family friendly. Plus, we had some bluray DVD's that were given to us that we had no way to actually use that we could watch with the PS3.

Not sure what we will do this year..

This year? It's going to be very tough! I lost my job in January and things are VERY hard. I'm trying to scrape money together now to get her new sneakers for school as well as a pair of shoes.

Christmas is going to be lean. I know she was talking about a book she wanted from the Punk exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The book is $50 so maybe I'll get her that, along with a few other small things and an iTunes gift card.

I pay for Christmas with Swagbucks. I run the mobile TV app and get 50 points a day from that. Then I run the Swagbucks TV on the computer. All day, every day. Everyone knows that if you walk past my computer and a video is not playing to hit the next one. My goal is 125 points a day Monday thru Friday. Weekends are busy so I don't do a goal on them. With that in mind. I make a $5 Amazon gift card every 4 days. You can get just about everything on Amazon.

We too always set a monetary amount, and then tried to shop as best we could with sales, etc to stretch it. Last year just before DD turned 18 was her last "big" Christmas. We spent about $400.

We do a set number of gifts rather than money, however when DS (almost 3) is older I can see that changing as if we wants an expensive video game I wouldn't want to get more stuff just to keep the numbers up.
We get him 3 gifts from us to open Christmas eve: an ornament (got him the new Small World ear hat one, so excited, it is his favorite ride), a Christmas book, and Christmas PJs. I got the book and PJs on clearance last year so we spent under $35 for this year.
Santa bring him 4: something to wear, something to read, something he wants, and something he needs. Works well for me to have the limit as I love to give him gifts but I do really want to keep the focus on Jesus. I haven't bought the Santa gifts this year but last year he got Mickey crocs, a flashlight, an I Spy book, and a play kitchen. Ended up being about $120.

We have 3 kids-the oldest doesn't really believe, but they all get presents from Santa. Typically one big gift or a couple biggish gifts-around 100-200 per kid from santa. then stockings with candy, jewelry, movie, wii games, etc. Probably about 50 or less for the stocking. We usually give them one fun gift-toy or a game from us and two or three other presents that are clothes/shoes, etc. We usually only buy them toys at Christmas because they have too many. they also get gifts from grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc.

That is awesome! I do swagbucks too, but only average 10 bucks a month-maybe a little less. We don't have the best internet so I don't do as many videos, I do earn a little each day from searches and I do shop and earn. I plan to use what I have for Christmas though.

I am trying to buy less this year. The toys I buy always sit around and end up getting thrown out because we can't find all the pieces 2 days later or something like that. This year, we're spending a lot longer at Disney so that's our family gift (even though it's in November). I'll get the kids iTunes gift cards with points I earn, plus a couple of small gifts like books or "coupons" for an outing together. The grandparents usually send something not so great like a stuffed animal or something.

I always do in the stocking for DS 11
Underwear
Socks
Gloves bought on clearance end of season
M & Ms
Toothbrushes
Book
iTunes card extra one I have left from last year

He wants a PSP from Santa - I am using checks fom consignment shops I use for selling clothes.

We will give clothes (he is not into these but everything is not going to be toys) few books ( got these on sale already) and 2 games for his system (have one already), 2 more gift cards, a movie or 2. We usually do some kind of tickets to some kind of event. One yr. we did tickets to Globetrotter show in March. Might do local laser tag place this year. I have a list and try to buy something each week. Have already stated. Some of these will be gifts I suggest to family members to give. They will all not be from us.

15-20 gifts. All from Santa. We don't give gifts to the kids. Ok we do but basically everything is from Santa. Dh and I grew up like that as well. And everything is wrapped!

They all get the same # of gifts as well.

Plus they get around 20 things in their stocking too.

Last year my oldest got uggs and an under armor sweatshirt so the rest of her gifts were scrapbook isn't stuff so she could make card-mostly stuff on sale.

I spent 88 cents on stickers for my girls and yep that was included as one gift.

My ds too. If it is on sale/cheap and I know they will use it I will buy it.

They have been coming to the store with me this summer and lately stuff has been in sale and my eyes can't look because I want to get it but not with them there.

Yikes, my DS6 only child typically has a large portion of our living room floor covered with presents. I think everything was labeled from Santa. We were away at my in-Laws in AZ on XMas day so we had to have presents sent there too and remind him that bigger presents would probably be at our house when we got home. Needless to say, he made out like a bandit between Lego, Wii, Wii games, XBox games and Kinect, etc. we were opening presents for hours. I think the only thing he didn't get on his list was the Lego Death Star. Maybe this year and we'll scale back on the quantity.

About 8.
3 from Santa
3 from Mom and Dad
1 each from each siblings (we have 3 kids)
and stockings

We only have one child. DD14 gets gifts from Santa. She knows the gifts are from us but we still enjoy putting from Santa :)

We do stocking stuffers like snacks , lotions, chap stick or nail stuff.
I like including some pajama short set and a regular long pant pj set, socks, sock slippers, a few other smail-medium items and her grand gift is something she really wants.

Christmas is now different then it was when she was little. Now that we are more into budget we spend money on gifts dd needs or really wants and no junk that will be on the ground.

I'm currently obsessed with saving money so we;ll see how things go.

Every year I set dollar limit every year hubby goes over dollar limit lol

He loves to give them presents from "Santa".

Kids are 25,23,20,10 which they all still believe in Santa, they pretend so well.

Plus they all go to bed well hide in their rooms by 11pm even the grown ups so that Santa will come. Normally up by 6am too ugh, but the rule is make the coffee don't touch presents then wake up mom and dad.

For Christmas we tend to get them a lot and I really don't have an exact amount # of gifts each. Sometimes the bigger more expensive items means less gifts and other years when we don't need to buy the big ticket items they get more of smaller items. We do buy the bulk (If not all) of the gifts on Black Friday and we save a tremendous amount of money! In terms of dollar amounts, I think we spend $500 on each of our children. I found the pic I took on Christmas Eve w/ the presents and it looks like this past year we bought less than years prior.

We make good money but I feel that I dont want to get caught up in a lot of gift buying for christmas. Luckily DD 7 is too young to want expensive electronics (she was happy to receive my dad's old iphone to use as an itouch), so we spend about $120-150 for her gifts. She often just wants things like board games, last year she wanted the hess toy.. Her friends have american girl dolls but she has not asked for one. I am trying to keep Christmas about things other than gifts---we do lots of xmas music, movies and go enjoy the lights and decorations.. I am sure when she gets older she will ask for pricier things but I may keep those things for her birthday.
Half of DH's family does not even bother to call on XMAS so happily I dont have to spend money on gifts for them! :)

For our twins, we generally get 10-15 Santa gifts each and a few Mom and Dad gifts. I've done really well in past years doing Black Friday sales and keeping an eye out for good sales prior to the Xmas rush. We've been trying to pare down as they both have sooo much. They're 8 and still enjoy some of their younger toys but are into electronics more. They are really into American Girl right now so I already have AG items put away from the warehouse sale earlier this month. Mine aren't getting much more than what I have hidden. The only other thing would be Disney Infinity for Wii but I'm hearing mixed reviews.

We typically have 1 or 2 Santa gifts (plus the stockings are from Santa) and then 4-5 gifts from us. Last year I did the "want, need, wear, read" idea. So, 4 gifts from us. They get plenty from others, they don't need 20 from us.

This is the first official year that none of my kids believe so the number will be much less than in the past. I'm thinking of telling them an amount I will spend and if they want one thing that cost that much, that will be the only thing under the tree for them.
I am so sick of the clutter of their stuff, half of which doesn't get played with 3 months after Christmas anyway.

I will still do stocking stuffers and we have a Christmas Eve tradition where they get a new pair of pj's and an ornament that we will always do.

This year I am vowing not to overbuy. My 6 year old daughter wants an American Girl Just Like You Doll so she will get that. I have already purchased the beauty chair from Target that fits American Girl dolls and the backpack carry case thing too (when they were on sale). I am considering the bed that fits American Girl dolls from Target and I already know she wants some Friends Legos and a cotton candy maker. That's pretty much going to be it for her so that would be 6 or 7 presents, probably 3 or 4 of them from Santa and the rest from us. For my oldest, I am buying her a pair of boots and a Michael Kors key chain and I think that will be it for her. I will wrap up money divided up into boxes to even up the number of presents to open on Christmas morning. My oldest is in college and all she really wants, other than the boots and the key chain, is money but I like for her to have the same number of presents to open. Should be an easy Christmas to shop for!

We don't really do a set number, we just try to stick with a set $ amount that we decide each year. Some years the boys get a joint big gift and then smaller gifts, other years we try to divide the types- like both get a movie, both get a video game, both clothes, etc. It was easier when they were younger- so many toys to choose from! They've never been greedy though. They still "believe" in Santa, so they get gifts from both. Last year we had some interior work done on older DS's truck, so younger DS got some camping stuff he wanted from us. It didn't equate to the same amount of money, but they were both happy. Then they both got Santa gifts.
