Was studying the RAT today and was looking at availability with one bedrooms during the first and second week of December. There seemed to be a good bit more availability during the second week verses the first week. I was just wondering if there was a reason why.

We are going the first week. For us, we feel that the later you go into December the more crowded the parks are.

I’ve also noticed that to be the case the last couple of years w/ 1 br.s and availability is even better during the third week when the number of points needed per night usually goes up. Not sure why, though.

When I ask friends to join us in December, they invariably choose early December, the first week. Christmas preparations take over the closer you get to Christmas.

First week of December has traditionally been THE highest DVC demand week of the year at WDW, second week comes in at only a distant third (behind Christmas week which is second). All three are really quite extreme but that first week is just head and shoulders above the rest. Why the difference is anyone's guess since both the first and second week have the same low point schedules. Third week of December has always been better than any of the other December weeks and the higher points and being just before Christmas week is likely a factor. Though all weeks from late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan are high demand times, the third week of December is one of the lowest ones during that time.

Don't they also usually tape the Christmas Parade for TV the first week?

Agree! We miss a lot of cool Holiday events at home even when we go the first week (or right after Thanksgiving). It only gets worse the closer to Christmas. Of course, that doesn't even begin to account for all the preparations that go into creating family Christmas celebrations. Not complaining - I am blessed to have a wonderful extended family. Just grateful to also be able to visit the Mouse during the Holiday season.

Annual Member Meeting usually falls the second week of December.

Pop Warner is usually the first week of December. I don’t know if that has any impact on DVC members going to Disney that week to watch the games. Just offering it up as another potential reason for higher capacity that week. Although, now that I’m thinking about it, we were at AKL Jambo last December during Pop Warner and there were a lot of adults staying there that were involved with the teams or watching the competitions. I say adults because the teenagers stay at all the various All Star resorts.

I’ve been a member since 1999 and bought at BWV specifically for that week. Low points, Christmas stuff in full swing, still time to get ready for Christmas after coming home.

That is what I think a lot of people like. Christmas in full swing at WDW, it's after the Thanksgiving crowds and it's still plenty of time to get home and get ready for Christmas there. OH - and the lowest point requirements. The second week can catch a night or two of Choice season and cost a couple more points!
