Aulani room views worth it?

Planning an Aulani trip in 2022, and was planning on getting a 2 bedroom Villa. This would be my family's first trip to Hawaii, so I want to do the ocean view, just wondering from others opinions if it was worth the extra points

If you don't own at Aulani, you are most likely to be able to get OV. You're generally not going to get Standard, as they are few and far between at AUL.

I think its worth it at least once. You'll go back again one day and that's when you can save your points.

FYI, the OV rooms would be called partial ocean view at most other Hawaii resorts. Do not expect a great OV. The only good OV are the grand villa's.

We had an ocean view studio for a few days then an ocean view 1 bedroom. It was absolutely worth it for the view! It's not directly ocean facing, as only the grand villas are on the end of the buildings, but they were both full ocean view. I can't wait to get back to that view again.

I've tried inserting a couple of images, from the hundreds I took from our rooms! The second one shows that you can see the neighbouring hotel from the Ewa building, but also the sunset. The view from other building is unobstructed.

We are DVC and We always get a one bedroom ocean view ewe building 50 series rooms 9th floor and above ie 950, 1050 etc. you are in the corner of the ewe building just above the oleo room to listen to music. You get a full view of the resort below out to the ocean. And with those rooms you get a much larger lanai. If you are getting two bedroom you will be at 952 or 954 I Think, on the very end. So you get the ocean view on two sides one across the resort and another toward the mountains. It’s gorgeous. Also try to get a dedicated two bedroom because you get an extra half bath off the kitchen.

I don't go to Hawaii every year, so every time I invest the time and money to fly there, I always got OV at whatever resort I ended up staying, including AUL. While some OV villas at AUL may not be ocean front, I imagine most would give you a decent view of the ocean. When my family stayed at AUL a couple of years ago, we had a studio where the balcony faces the ocean even though the ocean view was partially blocked by part of the building that extends further out (closer to the ocean).

We’ve been to Aulani three times. The first time we did an island/garden view and ended up with a partial view of the ocean. It was totally fine, and I thought why would anyone spend points on an oceanview? The second time all I could get was oceanview for June, and we ended up over the Olelo Room as another person mentioned, and we LOVED it. We could sit on the balcony, looking out at the ocean, and hear the live Hawaiian music (actually we could hear it inside and fall asleep to it). The last time we also did oceanview, and I requested a location over the Olelo Room. Now I’m hooked, and it’s what I’ll do on future trips!

We went to Aulani and booked a 1-Bedroom Oceanview. We had a great view of the luau area, but it was NOT a true oceanview. We could see the ocean, but not from within the bedroom or living room. We had to go out onto the balcony. The direct straight view was an island view; it was only partial ocean, as the ocean was to the right. We didn't know before we went that this was the view, so I admit I was disappointed that we spent the extra for oceanview. It was still a pretty view, but not what we expected.

We were in a 2 bedroom garden/pool view in Feb. 2020. RM 480 was lovely - partial ocean, full pool view. I really wanted to be seeing Aulani out my window, and we had the points, so this was the trade off. Island view is going to give you a rear / outside view. I like a lower floor room, so this perfect. Any lower, and we would have been behind trees on our patio and the pool/slide noise would have been more. Enjoy - Aulani is awesome!!

We have been three times, always with an ocean view (the 2nd and 3rd times that was all that was available, as we travel during the Christmas season). It's worth it, but not every ocean view is great.

We went a couple of years ago and had an ocean view. I don't know if we'll ever go back so for us it was very much worth the extra points. This was our room view:

We have been three times and the first time we had a lovely ocean view. We overlooked the resort’s valley and out to the ocean. The second time we went, the ocean view was mostly island, but if you went on the balcony and looked to the right you saw the ocean. If we would have been one less room down the hall, it would have been the cheaper view. The third time we went, we had a Grand Villa, and wow! That was the ocean view to thoroughly enjoy.

We want to go again, March 2021. I would have to borrow from March 2022 UY, and I don’t know what the rules will be. We are committed to an Air B&B on Kauai for a week, but that is cancelable through January. We have over 1000 points borrowed from 2021 into this UY. Will we be using those points? I honestly don’t know, we are in the vulnerable group regarding the virus.

However, I would always book OV, in Aulani. That second times view was marginally acceptable to me, I do spend lots of time on the balcony, but DH did not complain until we got home. If I had known then that the next villa down was fewer points, I definitely would have gone down and asked to be moved when/if possible.

The inside of "V" of Aulani has much better ocean views than the outside, so if you book ocean view, request the inside. Personally I'd book the pool view since that is guaranteed to be on the inside of the "V", just on the first four floors, although you run the risk of being on the ground floor which I wouldn't care for (and that would make it difficult to see the ocean). But I'd also be happy with a pool view because I'm a born and raised islander. The mini-TR link in my signature has the views we got when we booked ocean view. It was soon after the resort opened so we didn't know what to request, but we got the inside of the V both times and it was great.
