AuLani, Ko Olina Tsunami Warning

Watching the news and knowing the placement of the Resort, its facing the direction of the wave, just wanted to make sure the owners were aware of the aproaching wave. Currently predicting a 6-9 foot wave strike! Hang in there Ko Olina...This is one Mainlander thinking of ya...Shawn

When I woke up and heard this, that it was coming from Japan, I immediately worried that this was the leeward side of the island.

I did read that Midway Island received a wave of approx 8-9 feet and friends in Hawaii were being told to expect between 7-10 foot wave. News agency are showing people strolling along the darn beach what the heck.....Shawn

I'm not an Aulani owner but plan on staying there! So I hope everyone there takes the warning seriously and there's no loss of life, then my next thought was damage and how Aulani sits on the coast - so crossing my fingers and saying some prayers that everyone and everything survives!

Hopefully everyone will be safe in HI if they respond to the warnings and directions being sent out. If seems they have good warning systems to protect the population but there of course isn't much that can be done about buildings. Thoughts and prayers to those in Japan and to those who may in any way be affected by this natural disaster.

That's good that it's not in the direct path, maybe that will be helpful. It's also a blessing it hasn't opened yet so no guests there, would be scary situation. My thoughts and prayers to everyone affected. Deaths are started to be reported in Japan, I can't help but think that will be a significant number in the end, so sad.

I just wanted to add the letter "S" to wave. Tsunamis are more than just 1 wave. My prayers go to all those affected and possibly affected by this earthquake. We have friends in Japan and hope to hear that they are all right.

I would think that 7-10 foot waves is nothing, about what they may get on a windy day. Compared to what Japan is seeing, Hawaii has time and can prepare. God bless everyone effected.

According to a report online, the waves in Honolulu & Waikiki swept the beaches but fell short of the high rise hotels.

I have not seen any reports coming out of Ko'Olina yet.

This is correct. In the area of the resort the first wave was approx 3', but more waves (larger ones) are possible.

Yes they said the first wave is usually not the largest.

As a side note. I would expect that sales at Hawaii will be down with economic impact in Japan. Which is not really important with the devistation and lost of life occuring in Japan and other places.

Since Aulani is on the "other side" of the island and on a manmade inland bay, I'd not expect the buildings to be compromised there. The first waves were said to not have much impact on the beaches. I think the reef will help on the Aulani side of the island.

Friend is in Hawaii said that there is a lot of damage to the coast line. I don't know what island so is on right now because she is updated us through facebook statuses. She is normally in Honolulu but will typically go from island to island for research.

She updated again and said that many people had time to evacuate.

I really shouldn't dignify your post with a response but feel led to. Just because someone is concerned about property in Hawaii doesn't mean there aren't prayers already going up for those directly affected in Japan. Sheesh.
